I would like to urge the island of Oahu and Mayor Caldwell to reopen Kokohead Shooting Complex as soon as possible. The shooting range is a well used city park and many users are anxiously awaiting its reopening. It is a safe place where all users must sign in to use the park, and there are Range Safety officers there to enforce the rules, unlike all other parks where there is little to no enforcement of rules. It would be easy to maintain social distancing and keep all areas of use clean and sterile. For these reasons Kokohead Shooting complex is one of the safest if not the safest park to use in these times of Covid19. With all the other businesses, parks, and beaches opening, there is no logical reason to not reopen Kokohead Shooting Complex as soon as possible.

Gov. David Ige said the plan was aimed at providing a road map for Hawaii to “live with COVID-19.”

Highlights of the plan include:

•A quarantine for inter-island, domestic and international travelers will continue through June.
•Hawaii is currently in phase 1, with retailers and shopping malls recently allowed to reopen. The next phase slated for early June will include a much broader reopening of the economy that caters to Hawaii residents.
•Under phase 2 of the state’s reopening plans, “medium-risk” businesses — including salons and barbers, restaurants and gyms — will be allowed to once again operate. Also considered medium-risk: Movie theaters, houses of worship and museums. These venues will all have to maintain social distancing guidelines.
•But “high-risk” businesses, like bars and clubs, will remain closed until phase 3.
•In a supplemental proclamation issued Monday, the governor has also extended his moratorium on evictions for residential properties through June 30.

salons, barbers, restaurants, gyms are all higher risk than the range
when i'm at the range I don't really talk to anyone, maybe 1 or 2 people I know, but I don't go there to socialize at all.  it would be easy to maintain social distance and keep area sterile. in fact it would be TOO EASY!!!  hurry up, open up!

Thanks for the reminder Heavies.
Email sent to Caldwell again.
Does Iggy have any power over this ?
Does Kermit even care?
Can Kermit even access his email ?

Theoretically Caldwell should have gotten over 500 emails from different members by now.

we live with the flu every year - even with a vaccine it's a guessing game to predict which one. At best the yearly flu vaccine is 60% effective. Ige mentioned that we built up medical capacity. That's the reason we locked up to begin with. We didn't see a "first wave", so why are we treading so lightly in anticipation of a "second"?

Last time Caldsmell made a call, Iggy made him take it back, then back peddled that one(flower shops) so I guess Caldsmell has to ask permission?

the last reply from Ige yesterday said that my emails should be directed to the Mayor. which tells me they just passing the buck. although kokohead is city/county. but I will still send them all emails daily and try to phone daily too

kokohead also stimulates economy. firearms and ammo is expensive. then we need a car to get there, gas, food, shoes, clothes, glasses, hat, sunscreen, earplugs, earmuffs, sanitizer, spray disinfectant, reloading supplies, more guns/ammo.
I go kokohead more than I go to the barber, so its more essential to me

Mayor Caldwell / Governor Ige,
I would like to urge you to open Kokohead shooting complex as soon as possible. The shooting range would be relatively easy to maintain social distancing guidelines and maintain cleanliness.  It would be easier to enforce than all other parks because there are Range Safety Officers at the range to enforce rules, and you have to sign in to use the range. No other parks do this.  In all other parks there is little to no enforcement of rules.  Not so at Kokohead Shooting Complex. Therefore it is easier to track users of the park and easier to enforce rules at the shooting range than it is at any other park.

The shooting range is a well used park, many citizens are anxiously waiting for it to reopen. Please reopen Kokohead Shooting Complex ASAP.

I emailed the news director at KITV, Janice S. Gin  jgin@kitv.com

Ms. Janice S. Gin,

I've been emailing and calling the Mayor's office and the Governor's office for weeks, almost daily about reopening Kokohead Shooting Complex, and I have not received a reply with any date or any information at all from them about reopening the shooting range. It would be easier to enforce the Covid-19 guidelines at Kokohead than all other parks because there are Range Safety Officers at the range to enforce all rules, and you have to sign in to use the range. No other parks do this.  In all other parks there is little to no enforcement of rules.  Not so at Kokohead Shooting Complex. Therefore it is easier to track users of the park and easier to enforce rules at the shooting range than it is at any other park. Now that most every place will be reopening soon, including Hanauma bay, I don't see any logical reason to not reopen Kokohead Shooting Complex. Kokohead also stimulates economy. firearms and ammo is expensive. then we need a car to get there, gas, food, shoes, clothes, glasses, hat, sunscreen, earplugs, earmuffs, sanitizer, spray disinfectant.  Also, handgun safety classes use the shooting range to teach a required course for handgun safety in order to obtain a handgun safety affidavit.  This also helps stimulate the economy

I'm seeing if anyone can get some answers about the reopening of Kokohead Shooting Complex, because I am getting no response from our leaders on this subject.  There are over 1 million firearms registered in the state of Hawaii, and the shooting range is a widely used park, and it is a dangerous thing to have many new firearms owners and no place to practice firearms safety. There are many users of this park anxiously awaiting its reopening.

If you can help in any way it would be much appreciated

Sincerely,

They really have given up on us. You would think something as simple as opening up kokohead to make the shooting community happy would be high up on the list for those seeking election. I mean the vast majority of us would still never vote for them but maybe they could get a few votes. They really don’t give a fuck about us.

My best guess is that the logic behind the decision is better safe than sorry. If they underprepared in some way and a second wave does come then the cost could be quite high like Italy saw. Maybe its just political but no one wants something going wrong on that level attached to their name.
