Yeah.  If she had been a Conservative Male Justice, Trump would have been briefed on the passing long before the press had to inform him.

So out of touch!   :wtf:

Trump should make the nomination before the election choosing someone the Left would have no problem with.

I thought republicans said nominations shouldn't be made so close to a presidential election.

I thought republicans said nominations shouldn't be made so close to a presidential election.

There are 2 types of PRESIDENTIAL elections:  1st term and 2nd term.  Obama named a nominee in his second term (lame duck) which is why the Senate did not want to have confirmation hearings.  They didn't think it was fair TO THE NOMINEE to have hearings in such a major political season as it would only politicize the confirmation proceedings.

Not all "Presidential elections" are equal.  The Dems even tried to use the midterm election to block Kavanaugh's nomination "prior to an election" -- not even a Presidential election year.  You Liberals will twist any and everything to spin a narrative in your favor or against the other side.

Trump is not only running for reelection (not a lame duck), but he's got a better than even chance or winning.  So, there's no justification for delaying the process.  The nominee will get a fairer hearing out from under the distraction of a new administration immediately replacing the outgoing administration.

Nobody said that -- except for Democrats when Trump was nominating Kavanaugh.

The issue with Obama was he was a Lame Duck and on his way out of office.  And it wasn't "Republicans", it was the Senate majority.  Small subset of "Republicans."

Trump is not only running for reelection (not a lame duck), but he's got a better than even chance or reelection.  So, there's no justification for delaying the process.

Ok, yes, it was some republicans. And Kavanaugh wasn't nominated while Trump was running for president.

You said that though. Here is a quote from you in a 2018 post
"In the middle of a PRESIDENTIAL GENERAL ELECTION (not a midterm) is the wrong environment to be going through a justice confirmation."

The republicans in charge of holding hearings on a nominee for SCOTUS make this argument then Garland was selected. You can sure as hell bet that democrats are going to play the exact same card and it is going to make republicans look like weasels. Not a look I like to wear but they made it back then and they better stick to it.

And I stand by that statement.

RGB should have had better timing.  She had plenty of opportunities to kick off before this year, but she refused to at the very least retire, just to thwart Trump.

Who battles cancer 4 times plus a host of other ailments and refuses to retire before 88 years old?  That's just pure stubbornness.  :wtf:

And if you don't think that's true, you need to read the news today:

After taking in some of the opinions of others online, here's what I see in a nutshell:

Delaying the replacement of RBG until after the election MAY help energize the right to vote for Trump, BUT

delaying will ABSOLUTELY become THE ISSUE for the Democrats to energize voters for Biden.

Right now, there's really no issue that Biden can press to get out the vote other than "I'm not Trump."  Leaving the SC nomination on the table in November hands them a YUUUUGE carrot to get Democrats to vote.

I think the best thing Trump and the Senate can do now is press for the nomination before November, which totally diffuses the issue.  And hopefully the Dems spent a big chunk of their campaign using that as an issue, reducing the resources spent on others.

It'll be interesting to see what Trump's administration decides to do.  No matter which way it goes, the media is going to pounce and relentlessly try to bash Trump over it.  So, there's really no difference from that perspective no matter which way he decides.

But it was during a midterm where dems were hoping to gain the senate majority and deny Trump any chance of picking a justice.

Honestly I’d like to see the repubs play dirty for once. They are usually such spineless pussies id rather watch them grow a sack and be on the offensive rather then always playing defense. For some reason the left gets to play little games and pull ridiculous shit all the time.

Like I said in another post, it’d be cool to see trump wait till after the election. It would prove that the right is actually looking at a red wave this November.

Only if the Senate can push the confirmation vote through.

Trump could name his nominee today if he wanted.  It's up to McConnell to call for a confirmation hearing.

Maybe now, with the lockdowns and other pandemic crap going on, the Dems will be too distracted to put up as much of a fight as they did against Kavanaugh.

Doubtful.
Just think somewhere out there there's a rapist, raging homophob, sexist, demon judge in our court system.

Too bad that judge won't know how evil he/she is until Trump nominates him/her.

The republicans played dirty when they denied giving Garland even a nomination hearing. Not an actual vote, just a hearing.

They should have just had the hearing and voted him down instead of looking corrupt by making up some non existent standard about election times. That is what bothers me, that isn't conservativism in action, it is big government bureaucracy in action, something we expect from democrats, not republicans.

Personally I do want Trump to nominate someone as soon as possible but if congress holds hearings on it then they have just shot themselves in the foot from their imaginary rule from 4 years ago.  RBG was a classy lady, had a long great career, and now that she has passed we need a new judge asap because the government still has a job to do.

I still say there is ample justification for what McConnell did.  He had the opportunity to affect the make-up of the Supreme Court, but it was a SLIM CHANCE.

If you remember, Hillary was supposed to win handily by a large landslide.  Trump wasn't even on the Electoral College radar.  There's nothing to support the notion that McConnell knew a Republican would win.  Therefore, delaying the hearings until after November was probably going to give Hildabeast the option to keep Garland as the nominee.  So, McConnell was more than justified in delaying in order to keep the hearings from becoming political.

In the case of RGB's vacancy, the hearings are going to be political no matter when they occur.  Now, after the election, or when Pence is elected -- as long as a Republican is making the nomination, it's going to be politicized.

After the impeachment any chance of bipartisan cooperation is dead. This will be a brutal fight as the CIA and other corrupt intelligence agencies make a desperate scramble to regain lost ground, because it is clear that Ginsberg was part of their Color Revolution plan to overthrow the election results.  The divisions in the country will deepen, and it was not even 24 hourse before AOC started calling out her followers to "radicalize". Unfortunately this means we can most likely expect more street violence and possibly domestic terrorism, compounding the already disastrous economic situation. On the other hand it is rather entertaining watching the Democratic leadership beg for parlay now that they have wandered so far up Schitt Creek without a paddle.
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

Why hold a vote to only down vote the nominee? What a waste of tax dollars that would be. No opposing party has ever voted for an opposing presidents nominee since 1880. There’s nothing dirty about that nor is it hypocrisy on any party it’s just politics. Like Obama so smugly said “elections have consequences.”

Another reason McConnell gave for holding up the hearing on Garland was related to the election.  He said that by leaving the nomination on the table in Nov, it offered voters a chance to weigh in on which party they wanted to choose who sits on the highest court in the land.

In other words, It was Hillary, coupled with Trump voters, who took the nomination away from Garland, not McConnell.  Had she not lost, that seat would have been hers to fill.

Makes perfect sense to me -- let the voters decide when it's a lame duck appointment, because it's unfair to the nominee to turn their confirmation into a political football.

The political football thing is a given no matter when Trump makes his pick.  It's like when a judge denies change of venue in a criminal trial based on his reasoning that no other jury will be any more partial than a local one.  Nothing to gain by making a different choice.

If Trump drops a nomination before November, it will definitely impact those who would be part of the vetting and confirmation process.  Kamala Harris comes to mind.  Not sure who in the House that would be involved that are up for re-election, but that's another angle I was thinking about.  Distraction.

Then there are other ways to distract the public. . .  :shake:

Absolutely.  If Harris is dragged off the campaign trail for a few weeks when there are only 44 days remaining before election day, Biden's campaign will suffer.

Trump has 3-4 family members plus VP Pence criss-crossing the US campaigning.  Biden has Harris .... and himself.

Another strategic reason to nominate a replacement now.    :geekdanc:

The bastards are already threatening this:

"“If they ever TRY toreplace RBG we burn the entire f---ing thing down,” threatened former CNN staffer and part-time cannibal Reza Aslan."

" “Mitch McConnell is an evil b@stard. Burn the whole party to the ground. The GOP is done.”"

Keep your powder dry.
