Sweden has publically said they made the wrong choice. And try telling that to someone who is about to cease to exist. Or their family who has some loved one who does not exist anymore.
What I admire about the Swedish gov't is their commitment to battling the pandemic while trying to have people live their lives.
They still have not committed to a total lockdown. They still feel that keeping the public informed and aware of current circumstances is enough for the people to use good judgement to protect themselves, their loved ones and fellow citizens.
That doesn't mean people will not get infected. Some will get sick and die. The majority will recover. But these people have been given a choice. They have the
freedom to either stay low at home or not. It's amazing to me that Sweden is doing what a "free " nation like the US is not doing.
They treat their citizens like adults. Not children. There will always be the irresponsible assholes that don't treat the virus seriously. But the overwhelming majority of people do know how to act and how to treat the virus responsibly.
Just don't disrespect them by treating them like children and forcing them to do things. That's when you get the middle finger as a response.
So yeah, Sweden is no fairy tale ending as far as the pandemic goes. Will they go to a full lockdown? I don't think so. I don't think any country has to. Just put out the fires where the fires start. That's all. It's been about 10 months and Sweden has been a roller coaster ride as far as infection spikes. Right now the infections are spiking so they identify the hot spots and fight the fire.
And life goes on. No wringing of hands and wailing that the end of the world is on hand.
I wish I could say that about Hawaii and the US as a whole.
Oh and about telling what(?) to the someone about to cease to exist or to a family who loses one to the virus. What do I tell them? Nothing. Why should I tell them anything?
Again, like anything else. We are free to make choices. It is called living. Life. We drive cars that we can die in. We can get hit crossing the street. We can get hit by a bus, a fallen tree, get shot by a madman, fall and hit our head, drown in the public toilet, choke on a spam musubi, and the list goes on and on.
And please don't say one has the right to not catch the virus because everyone has the right to live their life in freedom and the pursuit of happiness. Even if it means risking getting infected with the virus.
