To be fair, that Tweet is inaccurate.  The foundation grants wishes for "critically ill" patients ages 2-1/2 to 18.  Critically ill is not as severe as terminally ill -- the term used in the Tweet.  Critically ill means death is possible OR imminent.  Terminally ill means death is imminent with almost zero chance of improvement.

Many of the kids are cancer patients who've taken one or more regimens of chemo.  Chemo seriously degrades the immune system.  That in turn would make them more susceptible to COVID -- much more so than the "normal" young person.

As a parent, I would have to weigh the risk of the vaccine causing more harm than good.  It's a variable I would have some control over.  Is it worth the risk versus my child getting a wish granted?  That decision should be left up to the parent and doctors together, not the foundation.  They are making a blanket decision to be vaccinated for all children wanting to have a wish granted, which could result in harm to the child beyond what their critical illness is causing.

So short-sighted.
