I've always hated MS Windows Servers.  I've tried to always spec UNIX/Linux/Sun systems for servers.  Even Apple jumped on the Linux-based OS.

Something's wrong when MS releases major security fixes monthly, yet they still have more known security holes in Windows than in every other OS combined.

MS Server has never been a robust and secure server platform without having to spend more time updating and installing service packs than it takes to install the server software itself. And even then there are so many things you have to configure in order to connect it to the Internet. I remember a junior engineer one time installed Windows Server and and what ever SP and instead of connecting it to our internal lab network he connected it to the engineering network which was slightly more open than the production network. Within an hour our IT guy started his search for an unsecured server that was attached to our engineering network that had been found and the hackers were already trying to hack into it. An hour is all it took for them to find an unsecured server.

When Linux was still in its infancy before Redhat created a certified OS we had lots of issues trying to get Linux to work on server platforms and workstations. But once Redhat created a more commercial and certifiable product and the hardware manufacturers worked with them so Redhat could be installed on their servers Linux really came into its own. Even on the workstation level. Now there are several different Linux products. I don’t even know them all any more.

For several years I rented a server from a server farm and did web hosting to go along with my web design company. I called Linux and Windows server farms. I chose Linux of course. It was funny because the Windows server farm I contacted told me they were having issues with Outlook and security. Not a good sales technique IMHO.
