No... the normal process is to have a court case right? Correct me if I'm wrong. I thought asylum seekers technically have that right.
You if anyone else, should know my position on immigration.... I'm pretty dang conservative 🙄
If you are here illegally, then you have not applied for asylum. Hence, there is no court case pending.
People who arrive at a point of entry and apply for asylum are doing it right. They are not in the US illegally. In fact, they are supposed to apply for asylum in the first safe country they cross into at the US embassy or consulate of that country. They then wait there for a decision on the asylum application.
What most are doing is entering illegally and only asking for asylum after they get caught. At that point, they are already in the country illegally and should be detained or deported. If they apply for asylum, it should not be a shield against deportation for illegal entry. Of course, it is being used as a shield as the Dems intended when they wrote the law.
The number of people coming are overwhelming the systems. We need to start kicking out ALL illegal immigrants EVEN IF they then request asylum. If it was what they wanted before getting caught, they should have entered through the front door, not through a hole in the wall.
Back to YOUR comment. You said illegals should be sent back if they are not vaccinated. But, if you believe they have a right to request asylum and stay pending a court case months down the road -- by which time we may never be able to find them again while they live in the US -- then being vaccinated or not should never be a consideration unless you also reject unvaccinated asylum seekers who come in legally.
Can't arbitrarily choose who gets asylum based on vaccination + immigration status. Equal application, and stuff.
As for "Conservative on immigration," there are plenty of Democrats who don't support open borders. Many of them are immigrants who came to the US LEGALLY. Allowing illegals to remain for asylum or any other reason is a slap in the face to anyone "foolish" enough to pay the money, wait their turn, and go through the process as the law requires.
One big "gotcha" for open borders is vaccinations. How the hell do you know you're only letting in vaccinated immigrants when they are pouring over the border by the hundreds of thousand each month? If they don't arrive legally, you'll never know. All you can do is ask the ones you catch.
