In elementary school we learned of Johnny Appleseed and how he walked the country scattering apple seeds in hopes that trees would grow.

Anybody know if this was just folklore or true?  And if true, how many of those seeds grew into apple trees?

I know.  Off topic.   So I'll make amends:  I love apple-pie.  Ono with not vanilla ice cream but with neopolitan.  Cause waycist.

John Chapman (September 26, 1774 – March 18, 1845), better known as Johnny Appleseed,
was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to large parts of Pennsylvania,
Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Ontario, as well as the northern counties of present-day West Virginia.

He became an American legend while still alive, due to his kind, generous ways, his leadership in
conservation, and the symbolic importance he attributed to apples. He was also a missionary for
The New Church (Swedenborgian)[1] and the inspiration for many museums and historical sites
such as the Johnny Appleseed Museum[2] in Urbana, Ohio.

Johnny Appleseed left an estate of over 1,200 acres (490 ha) of valuable nurseries to his sister.[32]
He also owned four plots in Allen County, Indiana, including a nursery in Milan Township with
15,000 trees,[27] and two plots in Mount Vernon, Ohio.[33][34] He bought the southwest quarter
(160 acres) of section 26, Mohican Township, Ashland County, Ohio, but did not record the deed and
lost the property.[22]

The financial panic of 1837 took a toll on his estate.[23] Trees brought only two or three cents each,[23]
as opposed to the "fippenny bit" (about six and a quarter cents) that he usually got.[35] Some of his land
was sold to pay taxes following his death, and litigation used up much of the rest

I read up on Johnny Appleseed. It has been many decades since his legend has been brought up.

I came to the conclusion that he was among many things:
A white christian male land owner who preached the gospel.
One would expect the far left to cancel this man.

I saw my old friend at the Masaki funeral. He was a Korean war vet.
He had a knee injury but still able to walk with a cane

Today is a sad day.
My favorite country singer has passed away.
Loretta Lynn, R.I.P.
 
I went to see her in concert at the Waikiki Shell about 42 years ago.
