Executive orders give the President a frightening degree of power but not the power to simply ignore the constitution. Executive orders are generally used to define HOW an existing law is to be administered by the administration. It doesn't change laws and they can absolutely be challenged in Federal court.

And he hasn't bypassed congress at any point that I'm aware of. No more so than any of his predecessors since WWII, at any rate.

Let me put it this way.

Pay attention to the Republican narrative in congress over the coming months. If it doesn't sound quite as much like "Obama is the root of all evil!" as it has for the last 4 years don't be surprised.

At this point congress needs to focus on RESULTS for the people and less on trying to shift the balance of power. The amount of bullshit spun about the other side of the aisle (from both sides) will hopefully diminish a bit. Pay attention to that and you might see that most of the bullshit spun in the last 4 years about bypassing congress, overreaching executive power, being a socialist, etc... is just bullshit.

Valid concerns and things to be watchful for but still bullshit.

Its just politics. That's how it works. The sad part is that we tend to believe the bullshit.

Obama cannot ban all guns with an executive order. That is simply bullshit.

In theory that makes them less likely to be political and just interpret the law without bias.

In practice it doesn't quite work out that way.

The liberals are all breathing a sigh of relief over Roe v. Wade for this very reason.

On the other hand, in order for this to make a difference several things have to happen:

1) An anti-gun law has to be passed.
2) It has to be challenged in Federal court.
3) It has to be appealed all the way up to the Supreme court

Our job is to keep step 1 from happening.

granted, it could also come into play should gun rights be brought up in a criminal case, such as the trayvon martin affair.

I didn't vote for Obama 4 years ago, nor this time around. He won anyway...I'm over it and can let it go at that. Am I disappointed? Sure, but thats democracy in action. Nothing to worry about, in 4 years someone else will hold the office.

Keep in mind: Second term Presidents want to build their "legacy". Fixing the economy, ending the war, and PPACA (Obamacare) would be the most likey focus  for the administration.

Obama will sign an executive order banning all guns and future manufacturing & sales.  This includes banning all ammo manufacturing & sales effective immediately.

It's one thing to make a statement then backing it up with some/any proof (from an impartial source), but that's rarely the case with most. Seriously, some of the things you write make me wonder if the cheese has slipped off your freakin' cracker. Executive Orders (regarding laws not policy issues) are only valid if based on law or the Constitution...It's not something a President just pulls outta his butt or does because he "feels like it". Also he does NOT have the power to revoke the Constitution.

There's a fine line between being a doomsayer and cuckoo for cocoa puffs crazy. SO...We should all be careful which side of that line we're on when writing things. I'd hate for this site to turn into something like the Stormfront (which coincidentally has a VERY similar thread).

Im not surprised.  This country is changed.   No responsibility..   give us our free stuff, say stuff that makes us feel good and doesnt hurt our feeling,  take from those who workn hard and profit and give to those who dont.    Sad to say it, but I am very dissappointed.

Dont think he can bypass THE constitution. The biggest concern we have is who he appoints.

The CIA said that their response team was onsite at the Benghazi embassy in 25 minutes; the big story here is that FoxNews lies constantly and shamelessly.  Oh, and Obama called the attack an "act of terror" in his first press conference; Rmoney got tripped up in the debate because he gets all his news from Fox.....

I am moving to Colorado... Will make the next 4 years go by a little easier

 

Welcome, but since the state just legalized marijuana, we're going to be flooded with potheads from all over --with the attendant gimmegimme outlook.  I know there are solid, substantial citizens who are recreational users of marijuana, and I voted to legalize it myself for "freedom" and "states' rights" considerations (and I don't use it, myself), but I expect that kind of "immigration."

Since we're the only state, as far as I know, which has legalized it, it might be an interesting experiment.  Will the turf wars over pot decrease?  Will pot violators be more "eligible" for early release and parole? Will tax revenues from marijuana sales help CO's budget? Will "regular" doctors prescribe it so you can use it as a medical expense deduction? Will the IRS have a fit if you do? Will we get little Jimmy out of the well?

I dunno.  That's why it's interesting.  Especially since Marshall McLuhan pointed out that COlorado and California are trend-setters as far as popular culture goes.
