So we're going into this conversation again? I only tried to go shooting one time in the morning so I've experienced this problem first hand but I typically wake up at around lunch time and shoot in the afternoon when there's usually no waiting list. The quickest solution is to get the bench hogs to change their ways either by talking to them directly or having the ROs talk to them.

Policy changes take longer to implement because it is the government but if you really want to push for it then it can be done. But it has to be something small that doesn't anything and doesn't drastically change the way things are done. Personally, I think a lottery system for who gets a bench at the opening of business should be implemented and then go with a rolling waiting list from there. This will completely eliminate the need for camping (bench hogging). Of course there will be those who try to circumvent the system so some rules need to be implemented such as no multiple entries, you must be present to claim a bench, no entering for other people, etc.

Most importantly, if you morning shooters want something done you need to take action and not just talk about it. I will continue to sleep in and shoot at my leisure in the afternoons so I'm not motivated to initiate anything but will support you guys in any way I can that doesn't involve me waking up early and dragging myself to kokohead.

Anyone know if the ROs allow people to set up their own benches on the left side?

For those of us who go to the rifle range on Sundays we have our own way of dealing with this situation. While some like Duckfat like to go in the afternoon I prefer the morning so I get there early enough to retain a bench. Yes I get there at 5:30 to 5:45am and last time I went I was there at 5:30am and almost didn't get a bench. I will be going earlier this Sunday to guarantee my place. I will be there before oldtimer and others. That is my choice and I am not complaining.

Let me stress here that we are only talking about Sunday morning here. We do have other choices here. There are other days where this situation does not exist or is not as bad as Sunday. When I don't feel like getting up that early I go either to the pistol range or I go to the silhouette range or I go to the rifle range on another day. And if I get the urge I will even go during the week days.

I have a friend who gets there around 7 or 8am and signs the waiting list and then goes and shoots on the silhouette side for 2-3 hours. Then he waits a while and gets his bench. Another friend does the same except he shoots his pistols.

The thing I am trying to stress here is we have choices. Just because our first choice is not always available we can make the best of a bad situation by trying other avenues. JMHO  :shaka:
