HPD is part of the problem of having illegal guns on the streets, theres crooked cops in there selling guns to family and friends. How I know this, a friend of mines asked me on a opinion about a gun he was buying and i asked where he getting it, he was buying it from a family member in the department that was going to sell it to him unregistered and everything. Goes to show how many of um are doing this for a long time.

It's possible, there are dirty cops that abuse power and break the law.   But not probable as vast majority of cops won't do that.  Could be he misheard something or took it out of context.  And you rarely get a correction if it was a mistake.

It's sad to see those guns get destroyed.  Can't get that M1 carbine out of my mind.  But to the people turning it in it's worth it.

I bet a lot of them are inherited guns that weren't transferred properly.  Or people didn't register them and are afraid and don't know what to do.  It is a hassle to transfer and sell guns and for many they don't want to sell a gun to someone they don't know.  It's peace of mind for someone that doesn't know anything about guns.  And it probably is safer if they have children in the home and don't know anything about firearms safety.

So, not all guns are completely destroyed, some get to be reborn in another receiver.
