So he just explained why he made an effort to stay in Hawai'i and you felt it necessary to tell him "this was my experience... Let me tell you how you should live your life based on my opinion."

Mac, how did you ever talk me into coming back to this retarded forum.

please show me where i talked you into coming back to this retarded forum...

There are some conversations worth paying attention to while others are better to skip. Don't OCD read everything or you will go insane.
Pretending to be offended does not make you a good person.

I never tried to tell anyone how to do anything, much less live their life.

I made a point I thought was relevant.  The point (as you seem to have missed it) is:

In today's world of technology, it's not necessary to live down the street from someone
to remain in touch and part of their lives.  Nor does living down the street automatically
mean you'll be part of anyone's lives if you don't make the effort.  It's a choice more than
   uncontrollable circumstances.

Sorry you don't like me, but at least try to argue over what I actually said, not what you think I meant.

You know how choices work, since you made the choice to come back here.  Mac didn't make you do anything.

The forum subculture is the problem. Just ignore all the people who lean into it. Then it becomes way less retarded. I admit most of the time its more effort than this forum is worth, so if you choose to leave I dont blame you.

I'd be very interested in what "subculture" I was leaning into.

I  was referencing a personal observation, but that's more anecdotal than typifying what I know from experience as common to any group or subgroup.

If you're referring to the fact I've only lived in Hawaii for more than 30 years -- almost half my life, and more than half my adult life -- I'd be interested to hear how you view that.

Your comment has me intrigued, and I'd like to understand it more.

There is nothing wrong with telling someone what their personal XP was.  Now if we were debating something of fact, like 1+1=2 and he says other wise, then that would be a different issue.

Many things on this forum are posted about ones experience.  And there are other things based on logic and facts.  The key is to know when to use which one.

Don't bother trying to reason with him.  He's still harboring some kind of weird animosity toward me even though I've bent over backward to be kind to him.

I chalked it up to a personality conflict rather than him hating my Haole heritage, but I could be wrong.

I didn't want to derail the thread rehashing his previous interactions, so I'll leave it at that.

Some people just want to argue for no reason.

Non-citizens don't have full 1st amendment rights. I am trying to remember if there are any other good examples but this is the one that I know off the top of my head.

Can you find a source for that?  Because I think it's wrong.

The specific example I remember learning about was related to political campaign activities. Here is one breakdown though the law doesn't apply to green card holders. It prohibits giving money or anything of value to a political campaign or political party. (Political contributions fall under first amendment protections) It can also get complicated because of how something of value could be interpreted, if I remember the example correctly someone could pick up and hand out political flyers but not print them.

I also did see mention by politicians that foreign students here on visas who voiced support for Hamas (following Oct 7) could have their visas revoked and deported. I have to dig further into that story to see the legal reasoning behind that and how it wouldn't trample on free speech.

You said "Non-citizens don't have full 1st amendment rights."

Green card holders who don't have dual citizenship in the US or who haven't been naturalized are still "non-citizens" and have full 1A rights.

Do permanent resident aliens not have a green card?  i thought they were in the same category when it comes to this topic.

Even US citizens don't have "full" 1A rights. Look what HPD did during the Covid lockdowns.

Did I ever tell you folks about the ticket I got for walking my dawg at the park across the street from my house?

Not joking...I actually got a ticket for walking my dawg, about 50 yards from my house.

sorry, this just brought back some bad memories

Next time your doggie makes #2, put the ticket underneath.  Then mail to HPD saying payment has been submitted.
