Post by: Mr. Farknocker on November 14, 2016, 09:47:06 AM
Hey, gang!

I just wanted to start a thread with information and pics of interesting, unique, bizarre or fantasy firearms that I thought everyone on this forum would enjoy. If there is a duplicate thread covering this same topic, let me know. Otherwise, please feel free to add your pics.

It's not that original or unique, but I fantasize about it a lot since they aren't allowed in this state.

I have one.  It is only a 25 yard handgun range, because handguns are what I like to shoot.  The handgun ranges at Front Sight in Nevada are only 25 yards.  I could cut down more Ohia and strawberry guava trees to make it a 100 yard range and I may do than in the future.

That would be funny if you loaded it up with steel silhouettes and POG bottles and started doing YouTube gun reviews, calling yourself Hickok5-0.

I find it odd to fantasize about material things so...Firearms + Fantasy ?

I always wanted to run a silencer on my guns. Especially on my AR15. On my pistols, I would love to run a silencer on my 22lr Ruger and Glock 19 9mm. Fun stuff.

Firearm fantasy for Hawaii.
1) No gun registration.
2) Don't have to get permission from the police to buy a gun.
3) Shall issue concealed carry.
4) Silencers legal.
5) High capacity Magazines.
In other words the same rights as citizens of over 40 other states in America have.
Nationally
I'd Repeal the NFA and gun control act of 1968.

I'd say it would be to have a location like where nutn'fancy goes. To be able to have a wilderness area like that where you can shoot several hundred yards would be awesome.

Having some high dollar firearms but limited to kokohead rules seems like it would limit a lot of what can be done.

Hiking for several miles one could evaluate gear(holsters/slings/belts/pouches), and learn to shoot while physically exerting one's self in a variety of situations.

The ability/location to do the above, legally, would be better to me than any high dollar firearm desire.

Mine are pretty basic.  A .308 with great glass like Nightforce, USO, Premier, etc.

I want to shoot all of my guns, so nice collectors items aren't typically what I would go for.  Sure, I wouldn't mind owning classic guns, but I don't think I'd appreciate them as much as they should be.

Agree
Rifle caliber bullets are usually lightweight.
The bullet does not reach full speed from a short bbl
Helluva lotta muzzle blast due to unburnt powder.
The guns are usually pretty heavy in weight too.

velocity is a little over 1200 ft/sec.

as compare to a 18" barrel at about 3000 ft/sec

They are unable to penetrate Level II armor.

If you do ever consider buying single action revolvers such as these, make sure you try out the version with the Bisley grips. The standard Colt SAA style grip has a tendency to rotate in your hand when firing larger recoil cartridges. The Bisley grips were developed later on just for this reason and for target shooting. I find them more comfortable as well. These two revolvers in the photo appear to have the Bisley grips.

Thanks for posting these. The Webley Automatic is an interesting variation on a double action revolver. Rare. I have never seen one in person. Would love to shoot a Webley. Any Webley. I have seen and held a Webley (not an automatic) but the person who owned it didn't reload and he didn't have ammo for it.

I own a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull. It has the 7.5" barrel and is pretty darn accurate out to 100 yards. The real nice thing about being able to shoot the .454 Casull is it also fires the .45 Colt cartridge so I can reduce loads down to bunny farts and all the way up to loads good for killing grizzlys. And everything in between. Funny thing is I didn't like the gun after I bought it and actually put it up for sale. I'm glad I didn't sell it. I changed out the grips and it made a world of difference. I broke 2 scopes on it shooting .454 Casull out of it. So I put a red dot on it and so far it is holding zero.

How would you compare shooting the Casull and other less common caliber/handguns to the popular, widely available calibers/ handguns like the 357 mag, 44 mag or special etc.?

Just remember when I answer you the Casull, 500, 480 and 460 has to be shot from an extra large frame and heavy revolver. While the .44 and .357 Magnums that I regularly shoot are from S&W N Frames which is a large heavy frame but no where as large as the Ruger Super Redhawk and S&W X- Frame. So it is different to shoot the different cartridges.

I hated the Ruger Super Redhawk not realizing the grips were the real problem I replaced the originals with some Hogue Recoil Tamers. They make all the difference in the world for me. Not because they help with the recoil but just being able to handle the gun and recoil better with more control. The original grips allowed the gun to move/rotate in my hand. Not so with the Hogue grips. I am a big fan of less popular cartridges. Because of my friends I get to shoot .41 Special and Magnums as well as .44 Special and Magnums. I have also shot the S&W 500 Magnum and well as the .460 and Ruger .480 through friends. While the S&W 500 Magnum is the most recoil I have ever felt, the .454 Casull is not far behind it. However, with the Hogue grips I can actually control the gun even with the heavy recoil. After those I think the .460 and .480 are closer to the .44 Magnum. Just remember I shot those through a S&W X-Frame. I am not a big fan of the .44 Magnum. The N Frame seems a little small/light for the cartridge. I cannot control it as easily as the Casull. But again don't forget the size and weight of the guns are very different. Also, the N Frame I usually shoot has stock wood grips. It would certainly be better with good rubber grips. I think my favorite out of all the magnum cartridges mentioned above is the .41 Magnum. Mostly because it is an oddball I think.

The .41 and .44 Specials are both a pleasure to shoot. Rimmed cartridges in revolvers are a must for me these days. I have had enough of moon and half moon clips. So these are a lot of fun to shoot for me. It is great to push a big old slug out the barrel with authority and still have control over the gun. With all this said, my favorite revolver cartridges are the .45 Colt (sometimes called the Long Colt) and the .38/.357 Magnum. The .357 is probably the best compromise between good stopping power and gun recoil/gun control. The nice thing about the .357 is you have so much of a selection in bullet weights and powder charges you can shoot mild target loads all the way up to some pretty hot loads. Even really hot .357 Magnum loads are pretty controllable. But between the 2 of these the .45 Colt is my favorite. The variety of weight of projectile and powder charges is amazing. I can load everything from cowboy loads to more powerful than .44 Magnum loads. So the fun of shooting loads similar to the Specials mentioned above combined with a cartridge case designed over 100 years ago that can withstand loads almost as great as a Casull load is my idea of fun shooting. Plus I have a black powder gun I shoot black powder loads with the same cartridge.

I have also shot the S&W .500 Magnum from a lever gun. It is a brute of a cartridge from a lever action carbine. You can imagine what it is like in a revolver. The .45 Colt and .357/.38 are a joy to shoot from lever guns.

As I get older I get more adverse to recoil. I find myself loading less and less hot loads for my guns. My pet loads for the .45 Colt is not quite a bunny fart or cowboy load. But not up to the recoil of a .357 Magnum. My favorite .357 Magnum load is in the realm of the .38 Special +P velocity. I have recently been developing loads for a S&W 25 which is .45 ACP. It is an N frame with stock wood grips and I got rimmed cases for it. I am developing a load for it currently.

I hope this has answered your question.

At the last few SSF that I attended, we had the Desert Eagle in 50AE. We sold 2 rounds for whatever amount of script. We put 2 rounds in the magazine. And we had someone double tap the second round similarly to what happened here. After that we put one round in the mag and kept the second round separate. The instructor would reload the gun with the second round for the shooter. Probably should have loaded one round at a time until these shooters became used to shooting this gun/round.

Well that video was about 2 years ago.
At that time the 500SW double phenomenon was pretty new.
It's well documented now.

Something to keep in mind if you are shooting near someone with a 500SW.

I witnessed a lady do something similar with a 6" S&W .44 Mag.  With the long DA pull, I still have no idea how she did it.

A Bowen Classic Arms revolver.
starts off as a Ruger Blackhawk.  this one is chambered in 50AE.  it is 1/3 the weight of a .50AE Desert Eagle.

Quote
Not all single action revolvers are low-tech nineteenth century relics. This one-of-a-kind Ruger is entirely at ease in the 21st Century. Starting with a New Model Blackhawk, the top strap was welded up and recontoured to the Single Six style. The receiver recoil shield and loading gate are also scalloped to reduce weight even further. Serious weight reduction, however, resulted from the use of light-weight materials. While low stress parts, such as the grip frame and ejector housing, are factory aluminum components, the barrel, cylinder, base pin, screws and pins are all machined from tough 6AL4V titanium alloy. The front sight base and the hidden ejector housing recoil lug are machined integral to the barrel for maximum strength. Roy Fishpaw made the dall sheep rams horn grips, a material both light and tough as befits the application. The compact .50 AE revolver weighs but 26 oz., about one third the weight of a .50 caliber Desert Eagle autoloader. Recoil is not for the squeamish.

LAR Grizzly Longslide

Very rare variant of the Grizzly, there were several longslide length options. The Grizzly is an oversized version of the 1911 and uses magnum caliber cartridges normally designed for revolvers. To help mitigate the recoil most Grizzly pistols were shipped with a compensator. Although a standard Grizzly will cost around $1,000 to $1,500 depending on caliber, the longslides can command upwards a $3,000. (GRH)

Home made .22 LR pistol made by a tribal man from Papua New Guinea,

The barrel is made from a bulldozer’s hydraulic dipstick, the firing spring is an old bedspring, and the firing pin is a pointed bolt set into part of a window wiper. The hammer is kept in the cocked position with a piece of nylon attached to a latch, which acts as the trigger.

Alexander Arms Ulfberht

U.S made semi-auto rifle chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum. The Ulfberht uses a Russian design for it’s operating system. Based on the Degtyaryov locking system found in the RPD and DP-28, the Ulfberht has two wings/flaps on its bolt carrier. The odd name is based on a legendary Viking sword, rather fitting since Alexander Arms is known to use Viking tales for naming some of their rifles and ammo. (GRH)

THOR M408

A bolt-action take-down rifle chamber in .408 Cheyenne Tactical, also known as .408 CheyTac. The THOR model is based on the original designed by EDM, which labeled their rifles the Windrunners. The M408 is not the CheyTac Intervention, which is of Call of Duty fame. All three rifles share the same similar silhouette and almost identical ergonomics; they’re just built by different companies. The Intervention is the most expensive of the three at about $11,700. The M408 is $7,500. (GRH)

German semi-automatic rifle that is the civilian model of the G3. Configured as a pseudo-G3K. It uses an HK 93 handguard because of the shorter barrel but to maintain a non-SBR length, an extended flash hider is pinned on.

That reminds me of my dad. As a kid he did some yard work for a widowed lady on the mainland. She didn't have money to pay him, so she said he could have whatever he wanted in her house. He chose a German Luger that was her husband's. Later my dad had his brother hold it while he was in the Marines. After he got out, the Luger was gone. I think my uncle sold it or something.
I would have loved to have that in my collection.

Your story reminds me of my dad. My dad kept guns in his house without a safe. And he kept his most prized guns in the trunk of his car. This included the nicest Luger I have ever seen. All numbers matching and dated 1918. I remember fondly shooting it and realizing how ergonomic and well balanced it was. Especially compared to the semi auto 9mm my father bought for self defense. Anyway, one day he called me and told me someone stole all his guns out if his car. This included a High Standard .22 Target Gun, A Belgium High Power, the Luger and a couple of others. The bad thing is I think the perps got his address from the registration in his car because just a couple of weeks later someone broke into his house and stole his coin and paper money collection. They left the remaining guns in the house for whatever reason.

The precursor to the Taurus Judge and S&W Governor, this large snub-nosed revolver is chambered in .45 LC and .410. It is one of the few revolvers to feature an external flip safety. A special cylinder was made to allow the use of .45-70 Govt which was meant to circumvent a California law that banned shotgun shell shooting revolvers.

Not elaborate, but I always wanted a Winchester Model 94 with octagon barrel.

My aunty had one that she was going to give to me.  I think it was a 30-30.  We visited her in VA when I was like 12, but my mom said no. . .  :(

Uberti Sharps 1874 Long Range with 34" barrel, fitted with Vernier sight.

Quigley's Down Under used a similar Shiloh Sharps 1874 Long Range rifle with a 34" barrel. The barrel is 4" longer than the standard 30" barrel. The differences between the two are in the sight windage adjustment which is at the base on the Uberti while it is on the slider of the Shiloh's sight. The Shiloh has a patch box in the stock which the Uberti does not, and the Shiloh has the curved military butt plate compared to the Uberti's straighter shotgun butt.

My uncle owned one that was stolen back in the 80s. He lent it to a friend and the friend's house got burglarized. Miraculously, it was used in connection with a crime and was recovered by HPD. My uncle was informed by an HPD Detective that it was being held for evidence. My uncle forgot about the pistol and then later passed away.  My uncle's son (i.e., my cousin) told me I could have it if I could recover it from HPD. He said it was in "rough shape" from what he remembers. I have no idea whether something confiscated nearly 30 years ago by HPD would still be in HPD's possession and how to go about getting it.  I went as far as ascertaining the name of the detective who was in charge of the investigation and have determined that he has since then retired.

Wow that is beautiful Revolver, is that a family heirloom or did you buy it?

I bought it from a guy locally.  1978 model.  Story he told was his uncle bought it new.  He ran half a box of ammo through it, and kept it put up ever since.  The uncle sold it to him (must have been a very cheap price), and I made an offer as soon as we met.

There's no turn line -- or it's so faint I can't see it.  The gun is almost perfect.  One tiny surface scratch behind the cylinder release latch, near the Colt logo.

I figured I'd never have another chance to see one in person before buying, and certainly not one this nice.  No box, papers or manuals, but I can live with that.

I figure this will be the last revolver I sell if I ever start liquidating.  I understand this is the revolver to own for the Zombie Apocalypse!   :geekdanc:

The trigger is single/double. It is just that bad. Gritty and heavy. It loads/unloads like a single action. However, the darn thing is pretty accurate even though mine shoots about 12" high. Even with the trigger, I can print some pretty decent groups with it at 25 yards. I paste an orange target dot ~12" below my target and aim at the dot in order to print on my target.

I know WGS had/has some ammo for it. I bought a few boxes before I got all the components to load for it. They said something about ordering it by accident. I got the impression they had a lot of it. Of course that was a few years ago.

Yeah, the process for reloading for this cartridge is slow and laborious. The Lee dies are really for reloading for the 32-20 cartridge as they assume you are going to seat the bullet above the case mouth. That is why I modified the seater die with the 30 carbine seater in order to get the bullet all the way past the case mouth and far enough down into the case to have a bit of a crimp. I wanted the gas seal. Which BTW you can use 32-20 brass and seat the bullet above the case mouth like a normal cartridge and shoot it that way. It just won't have the complete gas seal.

BTW, there is no load data for this cartridge so if you ever decide to load for it I will be happy to share my results with you. I think Trail Boss is the way to go with this cartridge. But I did load some Titegroup cartridges and they were quite snappy in the gun.

Springfield Armory M1A SOCOM 16
I can hear so many crying foul for putting a red dot on a M1A, but I like it!  I've always wanted an M1A.  While I am not sure I'd set it up like that one if I were to buy, but I'd sure enjoy shooting that one!

This one is for Stang:

http://www.taloinc.com/ruger-firearms/a1b9u9yqhy3ti9xpjsui5ksbaei4gk

I have a few Talo edition Rugers already.
all Vaquero's with birdshead grips, 3.75" barrels, .357, .44mag, and .45acp.  the .45acp is maybe my favorite to shoot out of the 3.  recoil is so easy, feels like I'm shooting .38sp out of that gun.  I can shoot it better than my 1911's.  maybe its just bc I like revolvers better.
all great guns.  and the price was about the same as a regular Ruger

this is another Talo Ruger I would like.
GP100 with 3" barrel, gold bead front sight
I don't know if it qualifies for a fantasy firearm, but I'm kicking myself for not buying it when I saw it at OGC a couple years ago.

While I usually prefer a blue finish the revolver looks really nice in that black finish (whatever it is). It appears to be more satin than flat.

I consider a fantasy firearm to be one I would like to own one day. Even if it is out of my price range.

Just watched a Pristine WWI Vickers 303 cal water cooled MG go out the door of Small gun store into back seat of pick up truck wrapped in a blanket.

Complete set up cost owner $19,ooo at estate sale.

He has Several Full Auto MGs

I am on my way to getting at LEAST 2 suppressors and 1 full auto something.

Wife and I LOVE Texas.

Lots of people willing to help me set up my range after we close on property.

I love Gary Reeder Customs but a simple .22 auto can be just as much a fantasy for some.

I like the way the rails and iron sights coexist. I think Ruger is listening to customers again. As long as they continue to innovate they will continue to own the .22 auto pistol market. Same as they own the .22 auto rifle market with the 10/22. The next innovations should be barrels and triggers that are easier to update like with the 10/22.

Whenever you feel like shooting .454 Casull I still have a few factory rounds left that I can't fire due to my arthritis. LMK, I'll either give you the rounds and remaining spent brass or you can fire them out of my Super Redhawk. Either way you can have the rest of the box of ammo. It is too much for me.

PTR-91  - A U.S. made clone of the H&K 91 chambered in .308

I contemplated between buying this firearm and building an FN FAL and chose the later because it involved reconditioning and assembly of parts.  ;D  The other deciding factor was the PTR-91 weird recoil pulse caused by the movement of a massive bolt assembly. Still, I love the looks of the PTR-91 and it is still on my shortlist.  I saw someone shooting one at the range last week and fell in love with it all over again. Does anybody here on the forum have one?

Sounds like you need to get one! :shaka:

My 5.5" Redhawk with Hogue bantam grips can handle factory 44mag ammo pretty easily,
But my Vaquero 3.75" with birdshead grip not as comfortable with factory 44mag ammo. After shooting about 24 rounds I gotta set it down for a while. I prefer softer handloads in this revolver.

Winchester 94 with Octagonal barrel and a "partner" SA revolver in same caliber.  .357 Mag would be first, but I would love to have set in .44 Mag. Not even sure if available from Winchester for the lever action, but I'd be down for a Marlin or other lever action.

Taurus Raging Thirty

One of the rarest of Raging Bull series from Taurus, the Raging Thirty is chambered in .30 Carbine. This is one of the few revolvers to use the cartridge that is mostly famously associated with the M1 Carbine. Production run was supposedly only for 1 year before ending which resulted in these revolvers becoming major collectables. Initially you could get these for around $650-$700, but they have ballooned to hit over $2,500+.

I didn't know Winchester made these. Probably hard to come by. I always wanted a Marlin 1894 cowboy with the octagonal barrel.
Not sure if they ever made them in .357 Mag, but I'd want one.  I have always wanted one with an octagonal barrel since my aunt was going to give me hers when she lived in VA.  It was a NIB 30-30 that I think she was gifted.  She was going to give it to me when we visited her in VA when I was like 12.  My mom said no. . .She would later give it away to another friend.  :'(

She now lives on a 10 acre property in VA, near the WV line.  She even has a deer stand on her parcel, which I think is from the previous owner.  When I visited in last Aug, there were lots of deer running around on her farm.  She says in hunting season she hears gun shots from neighbors properties.  Since she doesn't hunt or allow anyone to hunt on her property, the deer seem to take refuge in her farm.  She has expressed some interest in learning how to shoot, but not sure about hunting.  She said she would be ok with me hunting on her farm though.

Daewoo USAS-12
South Korean 12 gauge shotgun that was available in semi-automatic for the civilian market. It was one of the first box magazine fed tactical shotguns, long before the Saiga 12. It was designed to have the same basic ergonomics as the AR-15. Unfortunately the USAS-12 was reclassified as a Destructive Device because it was deemed to have no sporting purpose.

I am no expert on the process but I believe some can be a chemical process. While other methods are done with heat treating. Here is a basic explanation of how this company does their color hardening.

For me Turnbull produces the most spectacular color case hardening I have ever seen on a firearm.

Hoping to actual purchase a firearm (fricking Stryk B got delayed, Bren 2 isn't due for release until sometime in 2019, and Benelli M4s are too damn expensive, at the moment) and do some shooting in 2018.

Had one, would never trade an AR10 (if I had one) for what I remember about my HK91.

AR is a much nicer platform with no weird brass muckups.  The buddy I sold it to likes it fine.

Oh yeah, I really disliked the firing impulse, very harsh, and I am not recoil shy.   Was a polygonal barrel, and that may have increased the jolt, but it was much worse than a M14.

HK 91

Dirty beast as well, all that blowback gas.  Chamber almost as bad as an AR to clean properly, but with a lot more crap in it.

Bolt not so bad, bud you just have to dunk and swish to clean rollers, no taking it apart for thorough cleaning, at least the one I had.

Should have bought a MIA at the time they were even less $$ or about the same.  Sure as hell was familiar with that rifle and the cleaning of it.

Belgian made rifle that is often called the little brother to the FAL. It uses standard AR-15 pattern magazines. Very few were imported into the U.S, making them very collectable but also very expensive. The one depicted has undergone a modification that allows it to use the ACR side-folding collapsible stock. There are adapters available for the FAL and SCAR.

Century Arms CETME

Assembled from demilled Spanish parts kit, the CETME is the predecessor to the German H&K G3. Century Arms initially built a mix of these rifles using either the traditional stamped receivers but also cast receivers which were already formed. The cast receivers look much nicer than the early stamped models but the problem was the casting process put them out of spec. To use some parts, like the collapsible stock, require a bit of filing to allow it to fit and collapse/extend.

I got to shoot an early production version of this gun. It was finished beautifully. Pointed naturally for me and was well balanced. The owner reloaded and also had factory ammo. It kicked like a mule. Especially with the heavier bullet loads. I remember it is was quite accurate as well.

it was the Rasheed that you shot, if the Hakim was there it may have been cased already. can't go wrong with an SKS the are great and I think unappreciated by the black rifle crowd and looked on as low quality by others due to being low priced back in the day. the thing with the Rasheed is they made very little of them 8,000 'ish and then out of that supposedly only 2,000 made it to the US, mags are unicorns no one that I found makes repros and parts are scarce if I break something I am forked I'd probably have to have new parts machined. the reason mags are scarce is because of the doctrine like most early self loaders the mags were detachable for cleaning only not meant to be changed like more modern semis the early semis were meant to be charged with stripper clips. with the 7.62x39 stuff I am collecting rifles of that caliber.

Ahh.  Whatever that gun was, it was sweet!

I have wanted an SKS for a long time, but am not willing to spend the $$$ they go for nowadays.  I wish I had been interested in them earlier and jumped on the $100 per rifle pricing.  Yeah, exaggerated, but crazy how much they go for these days.  I keep hearing about how folks were buying them by the crate before.

I had looked into the Egyptian 7.62x39s a lot after shooting your Rasheed. Yeah, they seem quite rare for the rifle's themselves as well as the supporting parts and stuff.

Smith & Wesson Model 29-2

A heavily modified custom example that was worked on by renown gunsmith Hank Fleming. This Model 29-2 is chambered in .44 Magnum with a 6″ long barrel. The modifications done to it were custom machined front sight, custom machined RMR mount, custom trigger job, and most notable a full length picatinny rail that replaces the original under lug. The finish consists of a Patriot Brown CeraKote for the barrel and frame, while the cylinder was done in a black nitride.

it supposedly lowers the bore axis which helps to reduce recoil. Unfortunately , the design makes the slide more difficult to rack due to the reduced surface area. Slide serations help but the reduced surface area is still noticeable.

that thing has enough rails to add a scope, tac light and laser. If you look closely, you can even see that it has a bayonet lug.

What is that disc looking thing just behind the front sight?

What is that disc looking thing just behind the front sight?

It's a 4-position distance-adjustable sight for elevation.

You can set position #1 for say 25 yds, #2 for 50, #3 for 100 and #4 for 150 yds, for example. Then, you can quickly choose the front sight elevation for the distance you need by selecting the position you assigned/sighted in at that distance.

I want a transferable 240B in a bad kind of way.  It's been a long time since I got to fire one.  A buddy of mine bought two consecutive numbered ones for $500,000.  Not many on the registry, so unfortunately their prices are a little painful.   :o  Such damn good guns though!

I'm not a fan of art on firearms either...especially engravings. I always did wonder, however, how the engravings were done so precisely. If i attempted to engrave my own firearm, I would probably end up calling it "Oh crap" because that's what I'd probably be saying every time I screw it up.

Astra 300 .380 ACP

During World War 2, Nazi Germany purchased 85,390 Astra Model 300 pistols. They ordered 63,000 pistols chambered for the 9mm Kurz and 22,390 pistols chambered in 7.65mm. Only the 9mm version will have a German military acceptance stamp which is the stick eagle over WaA 251.

Sorry....I have a penchant for old stuff.

Some of those guns look very nice.  Almost too nice!  As in I wonder if they are airbrushed to conceal flaws like pimples on bikini models.   ;D

And that last Nighthawk revolver looked flawless.  I shoot all guns that I own, but that one looked more like artwork than a mechanical bullet projecting device.

This is one of those firearms you bring to the range and let other shoot while standing 5 yards away.  The shooter should also be wearing a helmet.
This firearm is appropriately named, "Mosin Maxillofacial Reconstructor"

Century Arms CETME

U.S made clone comprised mostly of demilled Spanish parts kits and an American receiver. This particular CETME has the cast stainless steel receiver instead of the stamped receiver. The integrated rear sight housing at the rear is a clear indicator that its a cast receiver. Although more rigid, they are actually out of spec and won’t accept certain parts a normal stamped receiver would be able to.

The Silver and Fletcher Royal Irish Constabulary Revolver

The Royal Irish Constabulary was the main national police force of Ireland during British rule. The RIC was armed with the Webley and Scott No. 1 RIC revolver, a double action centerfire cartridge revolver chambered in .450.  In the late 1880’s a few hundred RIC revolvers were outfitted by Silver and Fletcher with their rare self ejecting system.  The hammer was removed and replaced with the Silver and Fletcher mechanism. A mechanism is connected to the hammer so that when the revolver is cocked, a hook type ejector at the top of the frame slides under the rim of the empty casing, ejecting the spent brass out of the loading port. The hammer also worked as a safety, if pulled back and rotated horizontally, the firing pin was withdrawn rendering the revolver inert.

The downfall of the system was that the loading gate had to be open in order for it to work. Keeping the gate closed and unloading it after firing by dry firing the pistol was not that much faster than just using a revolver with a regular loading gate. In addition, by the 1880′s revolvers with break open actions were becoming popular, and by the 1890′s swing out cylinders would common, making the system obsolete.

Mateba 6 Unica Autorevolver

An Italian made revolver that was one of the first commercially successful uses of an under-barrel design. This would later be implemented in its direct descendant, the Chiappa Rhino. Although the original Mateba 6 Unicas are rare collector pieces, the company has since (as of  March, 2018) revived the revolver and currently still produces them. Original examples can fetch anywhere from $2,500 up to $5,000 depending on condition.

AMT Hardballer Longslide

A somewhat iconic 1911 variant that was made famous for its appearance in the first Terminator movie and the Hitman videogame series. One of the first (and few) 1911′s to use a 7″ long barrel and slide, it is known for its accuracy but not reliability. This is due to the fact AMT was one of the first companies to use stainless steel for a mass production pistol. Unfortunately the issue of stainless steel galling led to the problems many early owners encountered.

1873 Springfield Trapdoor - .45-70 Government
I recently acquired one of these puppies.  This rifle shoots a big ole' 45-70 round and is an example of the evolutionary step in the military's transition from muzzle loading rifles to breech loading rifles. The muzzle loaders shot a ridiculous .58 caliber ball that took limbs off when they hit.

These pics show the evolution of the rifle rounds used from the pre-Civil war era to Vietnam.  The one in the middle is what I shoot out of the Trapdoor

Colt R0633

Often referred to as the DOE 9mm, this curious little firearm was supposedly a contract order from the Department of Energy. The Colt R0633 uses a 7″ long barrel with a unique front sight post. There were different configurations of the DOE 9mm, but this is probably the most recognized example. Some sources believe only 250 of these uppers were produced as a prototype run which increased their value once they were dumped on the civilian market. A different company, Liemohn Manufacturing, produced a clone upper that was substantially cheaper than the Colt but with modern improvements. The owner/seller of this example built it as a pistol, whereas the original R0633′s were submachine guns that would fall under the SBR category.

FNH FS2000

The civilian semi-automatic version of the F2000, the FS2000 is mostly comprised of high impact polymer throughout its construction. The FS2000 ejects its spent casings from the front right-hand side near the muzzle. You can see the ejection port cover in the photo; the flattened squared off area just under the end of the optic housing cover. FNH has discontinued the FS2000 from the civilian market but the F2000 remains available for law enforcement and military buyers.

I think I've read Sig did tests on shortening barrels for creed.  Anything below 18" is making more fire than velocity.   Of course, for any firearm,  you lose performance for any cartridge the shorter the barrel.

I still fantasize having a shooting range.  Not a dirt patch covered with shotgun hulls and .22 cases.

Suppose that will have to wait until I make it to Arizona.

That there gun is too purdy to shoot. If I bought one, I'd stick it in a glass case in the middle of the living room (with no other furniture) and show it to visiting family and friends.

Non-reciprocating charging handle
Lighter than it looks, it is a little butt heavy
Stock looks weird but very comfortable to shoulder and cheek
Runs like a sewing machine in full-auto according to Jered at PMM (He has a sample at his shop)
Proprietary gas system that isn't interchangeable with the other SCAR platforms
Comes suppressor ready from the factory (the SCAR owner's manual states that running a suppressor voids the factory warranty - which most SCAR owners disregard )
Maybe they'll offer it in 300Blk or 7.62x39
