I'm for amnesty if the person has a skilled trade and can prove they're a model citizen. I have no sympathy for a mother who lied on her immigration form.

I'm for amnesty if they can prove their intelligence and ethic.   Make them take a difficult test and have a respectable trade/job.  We need more hardworking smart people in our country.

I'd base being allowed to remain in the country on whether or not they believe in anthropogenic global climate change. That'd be for everyone, not just "immigrants". :geekdanc:

There should be a path for illegal immigrants to get residency and we do need them for some jobs.  However there needs to be some kind of punishment involved or else we'd be rewarding them for doing something illegal.  A mandatory 250 hours of community service each year for 4 years.  Not fair for someone who put in the time and money to immigrate here legally.

And to support that, we would have to close the borders.  Not necessarily a wall.  More enforcement, punishment for businesses that hire illegals, expedited deportation, no benefits and healthcare, etc.

Catch them, throw them out (preferably from a chopper at 10000 feet, no parachute). Tired of all this kumbaya, feel sorry BS. There are mechanisms in place for legal entry. They need to use it. As for these frigging refugees if you support them being here, grow a pair, house them in your home or on your land, take full responsibility and I'll be good with it. We have vets that are being treated like shit and starving while we bend over backward to accommodate these scumbags with all the amenities. If you never served then you'll never understand and never will. If you served your country then I respect you and your thoughts that but still think your views are f'd up, sorry bout that .........

As far as the bill mentioned, on one side we do have a military personnel shortage again that we're having difficulty filling.  The applicants would have to pass the ASVAB, get a background check, and receive training and learn to be a responsible American.   I know a lot of Soldiers that legally immigrated to the US, joined the military and were great workers, and got their citizenship expedited.  On the other hand it could cause discipline problems due to joining just to stay in the US.

While I don't condone violence nor killing of anyone, including illegals, I have to say I agree (mostly) with MRGAF. I think the problem here is that we continue to offer a path for the illegals to become citizens. Mostly through amnesty programs. We have allowed millions and millions of illegals to stay here and gain citizenship or legal alien status since the 1980's. It's time we stopped doing this. We have enough illegals who have done nothing but break our laws and have been gifted with citizenship or legal alien status for breaking our laws. Ridiculous.

And some people (either "America First Patriots" or "deplorable irredeemable xenophobes" depending of one's point of view) have estimated the number of illegal aliens to be 20 MILLION. The costs estimates vary, but I haven't seen any that claim a net positive financial outcome for the country (our country... likely Mexico comes out ahead...).

My apologies for being so blunt. I don't condone fatal measures measures. God only knows how much of it I delivered in 'Nam. Was very frustrated. We catch them, they just come back, over and over again. Maybe the wall is a good thing but to think it will stop the flow is ludicrous and shot sighted. As long as they do it legally like everyone else has, get a green card, meet or exceed all the requirements an prove their worth, then I welcome them with open arms and will fight for them. My wife emigrated from Japan and become a citizen in 1976. Being a dependent some doors opened more easily and quickly but she still "did her time"..

I support this avenue. I served in the Navy for 21 years and can say that 75-80% were exceptional service men and women, some of whom I served with in Vietnam and they were a brother in arms. Times have changed since I retired in 1989 and have heard some bad stories but still wonder where their loyalties lie. During my time, most loved America, some died in the last ne of duty but hanging an apple in front of a horse will make it walk,  not because it wants to but because it's hungry. Are these the type of citizens we want, need or desire. Maybe....

They are changing it so illegals can join the military and after 8 years(?) of service would be eligible for a green card and the path to citizenship. I have no problem with is EXCEPT it should be a they are here NOW thing. Not about letting in future immigrants.

TBH i think that if you are an immigrant to the US and able you should have to join the guard and provide 4 years of service. But then again I also think they should also have  conscription for 2 years after high school.

Conquest is not "immigration."  The victors get the lands.  That's how conquest works.

Are you claiming that Native American tribes and the inhabitants of the Hawaiian Islands had legal immigration policies, and illegal immigration policies? Which ones and what specifically were the policies?

You think a Pueblo could mosey into a Navajo or Apache village and ask for papers to become an official member of the community? Or just move on in without asking and wait and see if they ever took action against him as an "illegal immigrant"?

Hell, as I understand it, and I could be completely wrong, Hawaiians of one island killed Hawaiians on other islands... what was their immigration policy from island to island? And what about that time that one chief invited the other island chiefs to Kona? Oh, never mind...

We have to be careful that the popular thought pattern here is not carried too far. If we are at the point where we are demanding conscription into the army and productiveness for all citizens or immigrants I don't see how we are any better than a dictatorship or communist country.

IMO illegal is illegal, regardless of how many years he was flying under the radar. In 30 years he probably could have been a legal citizen but he didn't feel the need to do things within our governing laws, all the while knowing full well he was breaking the law. This would set a precedent for others to follow. Seems our politicians and lower courts can do what they want these days, while the president can't do anything without the lower courts and/or others impeding everything, not to mention the media with all their fake news distracting things.

One of the reasons he didn't do anything to change his status as an illegal alien is because he didn't have to do anything because he knew full well the laws against illegal immigration weren't being enforced. Why call attention to yourself when everything is going perfectly without any problems?

Also, I have to wonder, if, as "a pillar of the community", he would swear that his two DUI arrests were the only two times he ever drove under the influence, and he just had the extremely coincidental bad luck to get caught both times?

When this guy is kicked out of the country they should seize his business, home and possessions and auction them off to the highest bidder and use the money for more immigration controll.

EVERYTHING he has is the product of a crime (entering the US) and as such should be seized (upon conviction, which would be an easy case as he has admitted to willfully breaking the law on national Television)

The assets built by the act of a crime should not be kept.

No,

paying taxs would be a further admission of crime. If your here illegally you can't work. working (paying taxes or not) is an additional crime, you don't get rewarded for being a criminal.

America does not need more criminals.

This would be retarded.  Builds a system to seize all assets of anyone.  One day you might do any crime, like speeding and they will take your car and sell it off.

If I remember correctly the IRS will tax everything and its mandatory by law.  Even if profits were gathered illegally. Even if you accept bribes you must pay taxes on it.

I think in terms of what is practical.
We can't deport every single illegal alien, why not use the IRS as a quick and easy way to judge whether or not to allow someone amnesty?

What other practical solution is there besides the military service option?

Tulsi will introduce individual bills in Congress for every single one of them (like she has for the Kona guy). That's gonna be a LOT (20 million?) of bills. I have faith she can do it. I pray to krishna she can pull it off. Especially for the young guys who spent time in the ISIS training camps in Syria.

No, as owning a car is not the proceeds of a crime, unless you use the car for racing in which case they can already seize the car (its in the law)

I think in terms of what is practical.
We can't deport every single illegal alien, why not use the IRS as a quick and easy way to judge whether or not to allow someone amnesty?

What other practical solution is there besides the military service option?

 Of course we can,
any bussiniess that knowingly hires an illegal should be fined a huge fine some where in the line of $10k.

Anyone knowingly harboring  illegals should be fined for aiding and abetting a criminal.

Any illegal that is caught committing another Crime should be automatically deported.

How about amnesty and a path to legal citizenship IF they can prove that they paid taxes?

Those would be the people worth keeping in the country.
If they are here illegally they can't get a SS number. So they technically cannot pay taxes.

Actually, the IRS doesn't care as long as they get revenue from illegals ....

IRS doesn’t tell 1M taxpayers that illegals stole their Social Security numbers

No, as owning a car is not the proceeds of a crime, unless you use the car for racing in which case they can already seize the car (its in the law)

They seize the property of criminals who gain that property through the act of committing crimes  (such as drug dealing) all the time and I have no problem what so ever.

I guess I see your point but enforcement wouldn't be practical.  It would discourage hardworking illegals.  I rather kick out all the criminals and unproductive people first.  There are millions upon millions of illegals we shouldn't start with the ones not causing too many issues.

No incorrect.

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) lets you file an income tax return if you do not have a valid Social Security Number. The ITIN is a 9 digit number that you can request and receive from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Title: Re: Illegal Alien Amnesty

An ITIN can not be used to obtain employment or tax credits.  Therefore, it CAN NOT be used to "pay" taxes via income tax withholding.  It can only be used when filing a return.

1. That was some speculation about how someone ended up the way they did... one of a million possible scenarios. I've seen some people speculating that the root of Comey's personality (disorders?) is based on his having been kidnapped when he was a child. How would anyone ever really determine that?

2. If people didn't say anything at all that wasn't "nice" the jails would be empty (instead of only 10% of the people who should be there being there). The truth deserves to be told, especially when other people are harmed, or potentially harmed by people's actions. That's why I started a thread hammering Sarah Brady when she died. The mods disapproved and deleted the whole thing. So I guess the guideline is: "Don't tell the truth about people, living or dead, if it's not "nice"." Making judgments and evaluations and diagnoses, etc. without strong evidence to support those is purely speculative and borders on, or is, name-calling (See Jim Geraghty's Nat Review column last paragraph re Trump today...), but describing people's actions and the consequences of those actions is a different matter.

Just so no one mistakenly believes that I was being sardonic or sarcastic or satirical when I mentioned Tulsi presenting a bill to Congress to help one illegal alien... just got this email from her during lunch...

"On Wednesday, I spoke on the House floor urging my colleagues to support a ‘private bill’ to adjust Andres Magana Ortiz’s eligibility for legal, permanent residence in the United States.  My bill, For the relief of Andres Magana Ortiz (H.R. 2794 ), is a last resort option that would permit a farmer, community leader, father and loving husband to remain at his home with his family in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i. After coming to the U.S. at just 15 years old, and nearly three decades living in Hawai'i, Mr. Ortiz worked his way from coffee picker to small business owner, growing Hawai'i’s coffee economy and creating local jobs.  I joined the Hawai'i delegation in sending a letter to DHS Secretary John Kelly, urging him to suspend his deportation order.  Mr. Ortiz received a 30-day reprieve from deportation yesterday.  Like so many others, Mr. Ortiz deserves the opportunity to continue his pathway to a legal status, and I will continue to pursue legislative options to keep Mr. Ortiz with his family in the United States."

I wonder which illegal aliens Tulsi thinks DON'T "deserve[] the opportunity to continue [their] pathway to a legal status"? If there is a pathway to "legal status" from "illegal status", why have "illegal status" at all in the first place? Seems like she means "If you can get in, you can get legal status. I'll file an Act of Congress if anyone gives you any shit."

London808, can you give us a brief description on what it takes to immigrate here legally.  Applying, how much of your time spent, cost, how long it takes, etc.

Ok, So as far as i can remember this information is correct, its been 10 years .

I came to Hawaii in September of 2006. In October i got married and we decided to stay in the US. I completed the application for a permanent residency based on my spouse sponsoring me, We had to provide a full history,  including criminal and medical information, I had to have a medical exam and blood test. I had to submit financial information for my wife showing that she would be able to support me for 2 years whilst my application was processed. This had to show that she had somewhere to live, she could afforded her bills and have $50k on hand to be able to support me whilst we waited.  I had to submit to a full bio-metric background check, They took fingerprints, palm prints and photos of my face from multiple angels.  The fee for this was around $1000 for the application, $80 for the bio metrics and $250 for the doctor and blood test. There was a few other fees and the total came to around $1500. I submitted my application.

After approximately 3 months i got notification my application was accepted and i just had to wait for a determination based on all the information i supplied. At this point i could apply for a permit to work whilst i waited. I applied and filled out most of the same information and submitted this with the fee  ( $350?) and waited again. About 6 months after that it was accepted and i was given a letter and an ID card to provided to the social security office to get a SSN, The number was issued and my card states on it with DHS permission only, meaning i could only work as long as i had consent from DHS

Then i waited and waited and waited. I finally got a letter in the mail telling me to report to the DHS office on ward with my wife and we should plan to stay upto 4 hours.  We get their and were interviewed, Typically they split the couple up and ask them questions like what side of the bed do you sleep on, how do you take your coffee, what brand of shampoo do  use ect.... they also ask really personal questions and compare the answers to make sure its a legit marriage.  Well me and my wife for whatever reason are interviewed in the same room asked a bunch of questions. One of which was WHY do you think you guys make a good couple, I come out with a great answer that takes a few minutes to go over and im feeling great, She looks at my wife and goes, And how about you ? Of course my wife being my wife goes " What he said is good" and thats it. The lady looks at me and just cracks up laughing. She says thats the best answer she has ever heard and who else then a legit couple would say that. End of the interview and we are out of there after only an hour.

Next WE WAIT AND WAIT AND WAIT. and around 2 years and 1 month after we first applied i get a letter in the mail telling me my application is successful. 30 days after that i get my green card in the mail.

Yes there there are LEVELS though.  Do you go after the guy with parking tickets as hard as a murderer?  NO.  You allocate your resources to the more important one/things.  Its a fairly simple idea.....

You kick the criminal illegals out first.   Then the useless ones.   Then lastly the hardworking ones if they don't already get citizenship or self deport.
Same idea
You get the murders off the streets.   Then the white collar criminals.  Then the people with simple tickets/misdemeanors.

You allocate your resources properly.  They all committed crimes but some are worse than others.

We dont go after either, THATS THE PROBLEM

If some one who is illgeal is picked up no matter if they have a conviction for any crime what so ever, The simple act of being here illegally is crime enough to deport them. The court case should go like this :

Judge : Are you here in the US legally,

Emigrant : No

Judge : I order you to be deported to your country of origin. If not country of origin is know, then your country of entry, If no country of entry is know, I sentence you to prison untill such time that information is made available. NEXT.

Paying taxs using a ITIN number if further admission of guilt. Use the information on the ITIN application to go round them up and deport them.   The easy thing about most illegals is we know who/where they are.

Technically yes but also a big no.   Not only illegals use ITIN numbers.  The IRS doesn't give a fuck if you commit crimes just pay your taxes.  If you are a drug dealer they want you to pay your taxes on the drugs you sell.  To my knowledge they never use that against you.  They want everyone to pay taxes regardless of what you do and that system should remain.   If you go after people who use the system to pay taxes and are doing illegal things then those people will just not do it.  Then we lose out on taxes.  The IRS should remain neutral.  I should give no fucks other than everyone pays their taxes.  It should not take sides or care about anything or use anything against anyone other than the people who don't pay taxes.

Then we bring upon the fact that in coarse of a normal investigation those who work hard and have jobs/businesses and commit no other crimes are VERY unlikely to be "picked up" if there is no discrimination.  Look just like Trump said we need to get the "bad hombres" out first.  Then we worry about the others.  That's the main point I'm trying to make.  We need to allocate resources to getting the worst offenders out first.  Put the worst offenders in focus.

Lets actually think about fantasy land where we magically find all the illegals.  We take them all to the judge who deports every single one.  We can't physically do that.  You can only deport so many people at one time.  In the end you must make a decision who to deport first.  Get rid of the illegal gang bangers and worst offenders first.  Make sure they are all out so there is no backlog then move on to the rest.

Communism is being taught in our higher education centers right now. Serving ones nation is not Communism but and education into being a productive member of society.  It teachs life skills and a pride in nationalism that is not being taught in america.
I agree communism is what is being taught these days, they just don't want to admit it. But that's how everything in America is, words and lies. Being "taught" nationalism is exactly what happens in North Korea and China. This is incompatible with free speech and thought. In a free country, I should have the freedom to hate my country.

This is one example of inconsistency I pointed out in another thread...people here fight for freedom when it's things they like (2A, 1A only when it contains pro-2A speech) but are the ultimate suppressors of freedom when it's things they don't like (1A when it contains speech that pisses you off).

I will say, that even though I often portray myself as a champion of free speech, that I also support some tyrannical dictatorships. The thing that bothers me most about America is not freedom or lack of freedom, but the fact that it is not what it claims to be.

How would you quoting people advocating suppression of speech be "uncivil"?

That's just my personal sense of etiquette or netiquette. When people start digging out quotes or names from other threads that tends to lead to bad blood, so if it's not absolutely necessary then I try to avoid it. Likewise I try not to point fingers at individuals and I try not to mention names when possible. "Address the issue, not the person."

Forced conscription basically suppresses the right to dislike your country. It is like forcing someone to write "Trump is God" thousands of times on their homework. Aside from that, someone (in one of the other threads, so my apologies to that person) mentioned that people in the military have weaker, or no, free speech rights.

An ITIN can not be used to obtain employment or tax credits.  Therefore, it CAN NOT be used to "pay" taxes via income tax withholding.  It can only be used when filing a return.

I didn't mention the ITIN number because one cannot legally obtain employment with it. Which means technically they cannot pay payroll taxes. But again, I only mentioned not being able to get a SS number which is the absolute truth and anything you say to try and contradict that true statement is a lie. You even admit an illegal can't get a SS number so you can't even argue against yourself. And without a SS one cannot technically pay payroll taxes. And without legal employment an illegal alien cannot technically pay payroll taxes. Either way you are wrong. And you are too much of an idiot to realize it.

You keep embarrassing yourself by showing how much of a mental midget you are. All you try and do is to try and show everyone how smart you are and how everyone else is wrong. If you make some generalized claim that people here are advocating for the suppression of speech because they don't agree with the content and then refuse to give even one single example, well, I call bullshit. You're avoidance of substantiating your claims by making diverting "explanations" about why you won't provide evidence for your claims are bullshit. You wouldn't have to mention any names, just the provide the quotes. Instead you ramble on about irrelevant issues including your personal etiquette. If you are going to call out people for engaging in something you deem "bad" behavior, you need to provide evidence. Or refrain from making such claims.

Forced conscription basically suppresses the right to dislike your country. It is like forcing someone to write "Trump is God" thousands of times on their homework. Mandatory public service, whether via military service or some other form, hardly prevents anyone from "disliking [their] country". You really think there aren't any people currently in the military who aren't at odds with at least some current U.S. policy? Absurd. Your analogy is also absurd. It is not analogous. I don't know the exact laws governing political or other speech by military members, but I do know that "no free speech rights" is completely wrong. You're just making up more shit. What's your real problem? Maybe this?

The thing that bothers me most about America is not freedom or lack of freedom, but the fact that it is not what it claims to be.
Who or what is the "it" that makes claims about what the United States "is"? Perhaps you would be more at home living in some other country that is what it claims to be. You are "free" to move. Where will you be moving to? And when?

What many/most Americans dont get is that your an American because you were born here. they dont have the same level of gratitude for citizenship as some one that made the choice to come here and become one.  I have never heard one naturalized citizen say we should have more illegal in this country or we should elt the ones here stay.

My belief is by letting illegal stay here and letting them potentially become citizens we are diluting what it is to be an American. There is NO other country on this planet that lets as many people in and willing accepts them as citizens, There is no country as great or as free as America and even with the communists within trying to destroy and erode those freedoms there is no other country i would rather be.

If some one wants to become to America so bad then they should go through the legal process. Not do it the criminal way.

Imagine America as a business and was looking for employees. You turn up to work one day and find 5 guys have broke a window and are standing inside, You ask them What are you doing ? and they tell you were your new workers and now we are here so you have to keep us on. Is that how it would/should work ?  Would you want to have an employee that the first time you met them was because they had committed a crime, NO.

America has so many people wanting to come here and be AMERICANS, They should only take the best and the brightest. We shouldn't be taking in those that dont take the time to learn English, have poor education or that have criminal records no matter how small. We should not be allowing people to come here on student visas, get an education and then take Americas knowledge home with them.  Every time we do that we are letting people steal Americas wealth and Americas future.

No person in America should be calling themselves anything but an american. There is no such thing as an African-american, a Mexican-american, and Asian-american or European-american. You either an American or your not. Every person coming here who takes the oath to become an american should (and in the oath does).

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

Anytime you use the words "I think..." I know the mental midget in you is at work making a fool of yourself!!!

I never mentioned the ITIN number for a good reason. And Maui Dog said it better than I could:

Yet you open your mouth and show everyone how much you really don't know. You are not worth talking to. I'm done. You are too much of an idiot to understand plain English.

The ITIN program was created by the IRS in July 1996 so that foreign nationals and other individuals who are not eligible for a Social Security number (SSN) can pay the taxes they are legally required to pay.
You can not use it for employment correct,  but I have never said you could.  I also never said that you can get an SS number if you are an illegal.  If you could actually read properly the IRS doesn't give a fuck what you do or how you make your money just that you pay your taxes.  You can be a illegal Mexican drug dealer and the IRS still wants you to do your taxes.
You can pay your taxes with an ITIN.  Your employer can not pay without SS sure but you as an individual can pay the taxes. Is that hard to understand?

Those immigrants who came here legally should be pissed at those who want to give these illegals a pass. Its an insult to those who went through the process.

I guess inspector lost the argument so he resorted to screaming troll as loud as he could to save face.  Even I admit when I am wrong.  I guess its harder for some people.

Guys no matter how much you guys scream and shout, this been going on for over 100 years and it's going to continue for another 200 years, your just shouting in the rain because it's all politics and we know how messed up politics is, promises made and shit gets done

Mandatory public service, whether via military service or some other form, hardly prevents anyone from "disliking [their] country". Your analogy is also absurd. It is not analogous. I don't know the exact laws governing political or other speech by military members, but I do know that "no free speech rights" is completely wrong. You're just making up more shit. What's your real problem? Maybe this?

Perhaps you would be more at home living in some other country that is what it claims to be. You are "free" to move. Where will you be moving to? And when?
Your current lack of civility makes continuing this discussion somewhat pointless. I think you are being absurd. I guess it ends here.

No, what it means is he's done arguing with a pleb,

An ITIN allows any one to pay taxes without using a SD # but it also allows them to get tax credits, for example the total paid into ITIN numbers equated to about 0.9billion but the payouts were 4.9 billion. That's not illegals paying taxes that's illegals taking returns that they are not eligible for. That's illegals stealing money from Americans. That money comes from people who actually pay taxes.

Funny how he/she and the fisheye character do not get the hint that they ought to be grateful for whatever attention they get.  Trolls that obviously came here after hearing  about a "gun nutz" forum that would be fun to go disrupt are fairly obvious early on.   One is evidently paid to be here, the other is seemingly a millennial that just likes to argue for the attention it brings.

Most of us will not give them the time of day.   I will not talk with liberals in general, certainly not these two (or three?)  No way do I have the patience of Inspector in dealing with provocateurs and children.

True that, I have no problem with conversing with liberals as I can back up my beliefs with facts and am willing to stand behind my convictions.

I usually get into the debates with the 2 trolls here whilst I'm working, so I'm being paid whilst doing it.

It is really hard to work out sometimes wether they are trolling or serious, but with some of the shit they say I'm going with trolling

Yeah, sure. Asking you to provide actual evidence to support (demeaning) judgmental claims you made about people writing in these threads as suppressors of (political) speech is "pointless" since you deem asking for such evidence to be a "lack of civility". I'd ask the same questions for the third time that I've asked twice before that you have refused to answer in any way at all, but we all know that you have no answer and that's why you divert into your irrelevant (and I believe completely bogus) accusation of incivility, so I won't bother to ask again... if you had any answers you would have gladly and simply provided them and supported your unfounded claims the first time they were asked. You can now safely retreat to your safe space where no one will be allowed to question your slurs upon people that don't agree with you.

But since I only asked this one once, I'll give you a second chance on this one (dreaded incivility and all!). Seriously, I'd like to hear who "America" is and exactly what claims "it" is making. Even just a link will do.

And when?

Okay, in "honor" of the day dedicated to the memory of Kamehameha a brief historical reprise which outlines the welcoming attitude displayed by Kamehameha to "immigrants" and even the people just living on other islands or parts of the island he didn't control. Talk about "uncivil"...

http://hawaiifreepress.com/ArticlesMain/tabid/56/ID/9873/Kamehameha-The-Founding-of-the-Hawaiian-Kingdom.aspx

Founding of the Hawaiian Kingdom

Warfare was a familiar part of early Hawaiian life. Interludes of peace were often broken by fierce battles to determine succession to the office of ali'i-nui and to establish political boundaries. Aspiring young chiefs practiced the arts of warfare with great intensity. Typically, having defeated other chiefs to gain control over one island, a major chief and his warriors would then raid and attempt to conquer other islands.

After almost a decade of fighting, Kamehameha had still not conquered all his enemies. So he heeded the advice of a seer on Kaua'i and erected a great new heiau at Pu'ukohola in Kawaihae for worship and for sacrifices to Kamehameha's war god Ku. Kamehameha hoped to thereby gain the spiritual power that would enable him to conquer the island. Some say that the rival chief Keoua was invited to Pu'ukohola to negotiate peace, but instead was killed and sacrificed on the heiau's altar.

After nine years at O'ahu, Kamehameha made a lengthy tour of his kingdom and finally settled at Kailua-Kona, where he lived for the next seven years. His rise to power had been based on invasion, on the use of superior force, and upon political machinations. His successful conquests, fueled by "compelling forces operating within Hawaiian society," were also influenced by foreign interests represented by men like Captain Vancouver.

Etc.   :stopjack:

After using guns and cannons to conqueror the islands,  did he then ban guns and cannons?  So no one would overthrow him.  The irony is his legacy was later taken over by guns and cannons.
I know the kingdom had a "military" of sorts,  the riflemen, but they were mostly white and had their own firearms
