I browsed it and it has a lot of good points. One big thing that I noticed is that those that argue pro-2a, their facts are disputed and often written off. Whereas anti-2a can appeal to irrational emotion and often can spew all sorts of crap and have millions parroting it as “fact” the next day. Propaganda and it’s working. Troubling that it’s working on folks that I would normally consider educated.

It's because we don't control the media. They have the biggest influence on the people, especially those not knowledgeable on the topic. Example: My dad thinks an AR-15 is not needed. "you don't hunt with an AR-15". I told him, the 2nd amendment wasn't written for hunting only. He didn't get it. He watches the mainstream news all the time, which is what most people do.
Prior to the Florida shooting, he had no problem with my AR. So I know where he got that "hunting" line from. Maybe I should buy an AK then.

These days people have forgotten the point of persuasion is to actually persuade somebody. Instead of rational coherent arguments and clever appeals to people's better nature, modern debate has morphed into high-pitched squealing with both sides calling each other terrorists, Hitler, source of all evil, etc.
Local organizing is only possible if the group has a good reputation. If a significant amount of people think we are assholes and we do our best prove them right then go ahead and consider that baby strangled in the crib.
Now is a golden opportunity to outshine the opposition. People aren't completely stupid. They generally know when someone is pulling their leg, but if they think going along with a lie will benefit them somehow and a strong emotional trigger turns them off to viable alternatives then of course they won't act rationally.

The unavoidable point is that our current gun culture is all about defense, circling the wagons, etc while the antis are using Colour Revolution tactics to make a bigger tent.
2a forums are plagued with racism, homophobia, anti-muslim hate speech, worship of the police state/military interventionism, climate change denial, anti abortion rants, pro-corporate-welfare propaganda, and if someone has a different opinion then they get shouted down and encircled for a group attack.
Not everyone gets the armed revolution thing. It takes some explaining, but put in the proper context it makes perfect sense. I get it because I lean more towards Socialism (not the Sunday school Bernie Sanders version). That means on this one issue we are natural allies, so I'm willing to overlook some of our other differences in order to achieve a common goal.
Either we grow the tent or 2a is dead.

I’ve been wondering why the mass shooters aren’t using an AK instead of an AR. The AK is more reliable but less accurate at long distances IMO. If the AR is restricted, then we might see more AKs used because fuck em, that’s why.

Even in our own forum, instead of maintaining a strong bond among all of the members, by entertaining differing points of view, the attacks by the thought police composed by the loudest ultra-right fanatical group-thinkers ruins all attempts of solidarity. The fact that many old-school members no longer post on our forum is indicative of this.

The problem is the entire democratic party is united against guns and are very out spoken and control the media (and social media, IG, FB, etc...).
The GOP has to be offensive and not defensive. As in only respond to 2a threats.
This is for all things the GOP stands for, not only the 2a. They will lose their votes if they don't step it up. How many anti-GOP stuff have you seen vs. anti-democrat things.

I am not sure that the entire democratic party is united against the Second Amendment, but definitely a majority of its leadership. However, it is incorrect to say all democrat party members are anti-gun.

Semantics, but the GOP should be proactive, not offensive, particularly to the general population.
This is for all things the GOP stands for, not only the 2a. They will lose their votes if they don't step it up. How many anti-GOP stuff have you seen vs. anti-democrat things.
The fact that the GOP is not stepping up in promoting its party platform is very telling about the GOP leadership themselves. Many appear that they are more concerned about their own power and money rather spending the majority of their time on party priorites.

I was thinking that the best counter to all this anti gun this and crap is to bring person who has never handled a firearm before to the range. Start them off with a safety class away from the range. Their first shooting experience should be fun. DOn't get them started on the biggest caliber you got. Shoot at something with feedback - the ringing of steel is very satisfying.
A media campaign #IAmTheNRA to show them that WE did not commite murders. We are the people next door to you. We are NOT the enemy.

Introducing the general population about the joys of the shooting arts is a great strategy, where competition shooting and self-defense advantages can be slowly introduced later. This is how I contribute to the cause.
However, a media campaign might be too premature given the current political climate. For example, all the anti-gunners need to debunk the above claim is show at least one case were a murder was committed and that person was a gun enthusiast and/or NRA member.

The intro part is something I’ve done for many years. With family, friends, friends of friends. I’ve gotten more than a few of my buddies wives to come to enjoy shooting. Even two that were prettt anti-gun before. They just didn’t know any better and got their info from movies/TV and the media. Nothing to be afraid of.
I also agree that should avoid the whole “big caliber” intro. Seen it so many times at the range and even SSF. Guys trying to show other guys they are macho and also egging new female shooters on. That’s one quick way to get someone to hate shooting.

Yeah and have it shut down like the climate change thread when I start to make too much sense? I'm actually kind of embarrassed for whoever did that. If you don't want the same crappy results, then quit using the same crappy approach.

Stay on topic. The climate change thread was locked because the same thing was being argued over and over from both sides. That dead horse has had enough.

It's a great illustration of the keyboard commando isolationist behavior and how we treat each other. We're asking people on the fence or who are simply misinformed about gun rights to accept an opinion that probably goes against their altruistic instinct of live-and-let-live. If we aren't willing to listen to them or at least disagree without hostility then it's just one more reason for them to blow us off and drift to the other side which is making twisted appeals to their emotions.
The best strategy I can think of right now would be to actively recruit naturalized Muslim Americans. There are quite a few here who are upstanding members of our community, and for the Islamophobics out there it's a great way to gradually increase your exposure to the real thing instead of the imaginary scarecrow version from right wing media. Who knows. Maybe you dig halal but never knew it.

Trying to recruit people from targeted demographics seems like a Liberal tactic. Identity politics is their M.O.
I've seen posts with special attention given to women and gays. Now you want to add Muslims. We missed black History Month and the chance to use it to target African-Americans. This weekend we should get Irish-Americans to come to the gun show, for St. Patrick's Day?
I always feel dirty whenever anyone in a group suggests we need to integrate people with demographic differences. That's playing into the very racist stereotype the media paints the gun culture as. "We need more XXX people so we don't look like we're racists."
If you want to have a multi-cultural group, then just set up multi-cultural events. Don't limit it to specific cultures, religions or ethnicities. Organize a shooting fair with a pot luck picnic. Invite people to bring their favorite non-local dish. I don't mind if a white person brings a Mexican dish, a Japanese person brings a halal dish, or a local person brings Italian food. If you want a wide variety of cultures represented, then invite the people you know who can prepare the dishes you'd like and would be happy to do so. It should be about sharing what people know and can do, not about where they come from or what religion they follow.
Let's leave the pandering to the Democrats. inclusiveness should be based on treating everyone the same and enjoying the diversity, not trying to lure them in because they happen to be Muslim, or whatever else.

I still remember how hard it was for me to go to the range for the first time on my own wearing slippers and landscaper ear cans, fumbling with targets, and asking the grumpy looking range masters what to do. I imagine for them it would be an extremely uncomfortable hurdle to jump. There are gun shops in parts of American with signs saying no Muslims allowed. That right there kind of cancels out any uneasy feeling we should have about pandering. What's the use of treating everyone equally if they don't show up?

I don't worry about what stores elsewhere are doing. I have no control over them. If you want people to join because you want to use them for some propaganda, to me that's wrong.
Your anecdotal story is not unique to Muslims. It's the same for all new KHSC visitors. There's a lot going on at once, and learning the ropes is not easy if you're on your own.
I took the OGC offered handgun training. That included hands-on at KHSC. I was simultaneously trained, introduced to several handguns and calibers to try, and provided in-person experience on how the range works and the rules.
I mentioned on here more than once there should be a KHSC training resource for new shooters. It could go over all the rules, proper target construction and positioning, types of targets permitted (Steel plates, bowling pins, ...), and the normal RSO commands used.
Maybe someone is willing to produce a nicely edited and narrated video to walk new (and not so new) shooters through all the things they need to know and how to get set up on each range? Post it to the nice KHSC website if possible, or at least link to a video server hosting it. There are a couple of KHSC intro videos out there, but they could be better. Add some "PowerPoint Slides" to list the important rules and safety concerns. Trying to talk on video while filming around live fire isn't the best. Adding the narrative during editing would be much better for computer based training (CBT) videos.
I know there are people here who are professional or skilled hobbiest videographers. Something like this could be a valuable tool for attracting all new visitors who were interested in shooting, but have no idea where to start.

Could get a grant or some city money to pay for a few tablets. Mount them next to the signin books and loop the video. Range staff would be appreciative.

I agree with the problem of joining an organization, paying the membership fee, and kicking back watching a few people do the work. I'm guilty of this and it took me a long time to realize it. This holds true for any club (not just limited to guns)...HRA, MPPL, Puuloa, HDF, etc. The fees pay administrative expenses. What gets things done is the members wether it's setting up the range, doing RSO time, updating the website, planning and leading events, etc.
When something goes wrong or stuff isn't done the members usually target the leadership. The leadership (unless their paid or do something malicious) don't have any more responsibility than the members. It's actually the member's fault.

Until all the gun groups form a hui we're Fawked.
We tried through 2AHawaii and got 12 guys.
(Not counting the one national day when we got 100 which was cool)
HDF, MPPL, IPSC, Chinese gun club, cowboy action, skeet folks, Puuloa, Schofield, etc.
Props to Zippz for what he's working to do though.

What would be great to have is a united march on the weekend. Start at the State Capitol and march to Ala Moana Park. Have a big BBQ and fun day there.
Might be doable at the end of 2019.
