I am making plans are you?
Because I live on the Big island I'm always prepared
for natural disasters. We get enough of them that
it is foolish not to prepare.
I'm also somewhat prepared for the government caused disasters that
we all get from our Federal, state, and local governments.
This next election has a risk of a new set of disasters.
either way, whoever wins carries a significant risk of a new Vector.
I'll Share one with Y'all and solicit any others.
I'm considering getting a sailboat and doing "shipping" between
Astoria OR and the Big island. If the Greens take over you can't
get more green than a sailboat.

And if there wasn’t enough to worry about...
China may be waiting for the election results in invade Taiwan.
This could be WW3

In the western world we fight wars for gain.
Resources or "riches".
Chinese have another factor,
it can be called "face".
The question is, are the Chinese willing
to destroy a vibrant economy just to "save face"?
They have basically just destroyed Hong Kong
to make a point to their people, Jung Wa.
Chinese believe they are the Center of the universe
and their race is supreme. My years of learning Mandarin
taught me a few things about Chinese culture.
Jung Wa.
I believe that if Biden is elected, Taiwan will be attacked
and we will do nothing to interfere.
But I'd bet that Japan will assemble it's nukes, quietly.
They are next. That Nanking thing and all the other atrocities
have not been forgotten or forgiven.

I hope if that happens the usa will stand with Taiwan against the communists.

I agree with everything but if democrats win. I think if they win China won't go to war. They know democrats will want to protect them for humanity. While Republicans, Trump in particular might do the hands off approach to save from war and costs.

Meanwhile Keith Amemiya is the Democrat running for Mayor of Honolulu.

I just going stay home and let the government take care of me. If that doesn't work out, I'll drive to groveler's house.

Wow, pretty much opposite.
China has biden in their back pocket. If he wins, they can have more leeway to do as they please.
Trump wins, they know trump aint afraid to launch strikes. Esp after he just helped Taiwan. Remember how he took out Solemani in Syria?

I’m not sure we could win a war, even a limited one, or even a proxy war against China at this point. Especially being so close to their mainland. I believe if Trump wins, China waits. If Biden wins, Harris will let China do as it pleases. Taiwan is not in NATO so we have no requirement to defend them. It would be in our best interest to do so, but I’m not sure we would win if we did. Let’s face it, our last administration let our military rot away. Even in 4 years I doubt we could bring back what we lost in 8 years. Plus the Chinese have a lot of our technology.
If Trump were to be elected and China did invade Taiwan, I think our carriers and aircraft could do some damage. But I don’t think another country would allow us to have access to their airfields because if we launch strikes on China that country is putting itself into the war against China. I just don’t think there is another country with the balls to allow that to happen. I think we are just too close to China’s mainland to be able to defeat them. If nothing else they could overrun us with numbers.
All of this is my opinion of course and I certainly can be, and probably am wrong. I’m in no way an expert in this field.

I really disagree. But neither of us can really tell. Only time. I am waiting for one party to take a stance of we will defend Taiwan at all costs. Don't fuck with them China clear language. Like we have with Japan.

We do have a gray area agreement to help Taiwan. Depending on the administration they can invoke it to help. Regardless of nato. I belive that counties that have agreements with us like Japan will automatically have to help us in a war effort. Trump is very hands off, look at Armenia and Syria and the middle east. Even India vs China. USA has not intervened. I think that would continue. Trump doesn't like war at all. Democrats are more open to defending helpless countries. This is both good and bad lol.

Make America Great Again. Never mind trying to clean someone else's yard when we need to clean our own.
If they want to mess with us then that's another story. We will pound you into the ground then stomp on you just for the heck of it.
This is how I see foreign policy. I know it's shallow and not as simple but it would've been if some fuckin administrations in the past would have minded their own damn business instead of sticking their damn nose in everyone else's.
This is how I live my life. You no bodda me, I no bodda you. You mess with me, pau. Life gets hard for both of us.

This strategy didn't work that well for the WW2. China is the new nazi/imperial japan. They took over hong kong, we ignored. They take over more countries and grow more powerful. If we wait too long we can't stop them like before. Imagine if the USA did nothing in Europe till the Nazis had full control. America is the shining example of capitalism and democracy, we must lead the world and show our power. Isolationism most of the time never works out. Not saying we should save the world and go full globalism but there needs to be a balance.

You are wrong in comparing China to Nazi Germany and Imperialistic Japan. To compare the Chinese people to Nazis without understanding their history and culture is very wrong, insulting to Chinese and irresponsible. Hong Kong was not "taken over".
-
This strategy didn't work that well for the WW2.
WWII was more complicated than that.
China is the new nazi/imperial japan.
You are totally wrong. China can't claim that title because that's reserved, for the current US empire.
They took over hong kong, we ignored.
First, Hong Kong has always been part of China.
Second, do we need to mention the illegal annexation of Hawaii?
America is the shining example of capitalism and democracy,
Are we in the 21st century?
The once great American Republic you speak of, has been dead, for many years now.
we must lead the world and show our power. Isolationism most of the time never works out. Not saying we should save the world and go full globalism but there needs to be a balance.
Words spoken like a true imperialist, as it is very symbolic, to what the ever rapidly declining US empire has become.
-

I was not comparing their societies or viewpoints but the action of war and taking over others to build a war machine. Hong Kong was "taken over" and cracked down on freedoms and forcibly made to conform to Chinese communism.

Hong Kong belonged to china, then was transferred to the British where it got its new identify and culture. It wasn’t communist and was fairly democratic and its people preferred it to be that way after that agreement expired. China decided to take over forcibly and Hong Kong “lost” the war.
You and the annexation of Hawaii…Hawaii lost its war too, that’s in the past. The American republic is still strong. It is declining but I fault that a bit to trump. We must expand not contract. Teach the ways of America to the world. Better the world with freedom and democracy. Fight socialists and communists. Unite the world.

I don't think a country has to be a UN or NATO member to warrant a "visit" by those "peace keepers". If the US wants to go into a country to stop violence, genocide, etc, the coalition would be at the request of the US, not the country needing our help.
Ever hear of Serbia? Not a UN/NATO member.
Syria is not a member of the UN yet they sent resources and people to help in the war-torn country and supports US military action there.

I think you misunderstood what I said. Or perhaps I don’t understand why you posted what you did.
I said we are not required to defend Taiwan because they are not in nato. But it is in our best interest to do so. I never said we couldn’t or wouldn’t go in. So I’m not sure what your reference is referring to?

Mostly expounding than anything else.

Be careful what you wish for. One of my best friends has two kids that just passed the "terrible twos". Even as the "favorite uncle", sometimes they both tested my "favorite" status. Not surprisingly, the boy was the younger and of course more headstrong. Cute, but sometimes were :grrr:
Haha. Not often really. And actually quite entertaining at times though.

Almost. The Chinese government are like nazis. The diff is in ww2, the german citizens also backed, followed, and believed in the nazi government.
Unless u have money in china, the citizens do not like their government. But have no 1a to speak out about it as much.

I really need to study the war between Hawaii and the US.

Don't give credit to Trump, for what the Fascists and Imperialists, in the US, have done to America.
We must expand not contract.
Stop it.
Why do you want to exacerbate the US's runaway obesity problem?
Teach the ways of America to the world.
Why would any nation want to have the endless money printing, fascist cops, racial hatred, corrupt national government, illegal foreign wars and occupations, ultrawealthy owning everything, etc. that America possesses?
Better the world with freedom and democracy.
I think the US needs some nation, to come over and bring back freedom and democracy, to the people, of America.
Fight socialists and communists.
No need, to go abroad, to do that.
Unite the world.
To do what, share America's misery and distress, to everyone else?

From my friends who's parents grew up in china and including in laws who are from china, they "all" dont like chinese government. Both are middle class or lower.

Thanks for the clarification.
Prior to Covid-19, I routinely visited China and worked with many Chinese nationals that do business, in the US, and they acknowledged the reality and hatred, of many corrupt CCP officials. However, almost none has ever shared hatred, to their government.
The only Chinese nationals I ever knew, who openly shared hatred, to the Chinese government, were the ones escaping China, from prosecution, to the US, for usually some kind of financial-related crimes.

Getting back to the original thread question, I know I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for whatever happens after the aftermath of the election.
All the past events leading up to the present has really stressed me out at times. All the violence, destruction of private properties, the severe divisiveness of our country in all aspects regarding race, politics, morals, religion, has me going batshit. Even the virus and how it should be handled has divided people.
Something tells me it will be a while before things start to calm down. No matter who wins.
Civil unrest will be a big concern. I would be more concerned if I were living in some parts of the mainland. But Ige, Caldwell, and his puppet Ballard better watch out. Once nomo food on the table, nomo job to go to, nomo money to pay mortgage and bills, the usually passive Hawaii people will turn into a mob.
Yeah, all these years my friends and family wondered why I would own guns to protect my family and home. I bet they understand now when I told them the cops can't be everywhere......
One of my in-laws who always criticized me owning guns told me the other day that he wants to buy a gun now. I looked at him, scoffed and said "Good Luck...."
Never liked him.....

my reply was, "i spend my time mentally and emotionally preparing myself for the possibility that i may have to shoot somebody..."

Mindset is something that I really got interested in when I started getting serious in firearms training. There was a thread way back on priorities and I included medical, fitness, and mindset. Mindset is a tough one as well. I have done a lot of reading, including books about TEOWAWKI events and stuff (fiction) that gives at least the author's viewpoint of mindset in those types of events. I have friends and those I have met through firearms training that have BTDT, but I don't push the topic except mentioning that I'm interested in discussions on mindset.

I don't agree with the politics of General Matis but this advice is sound
"Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet."
This was in the context of the Iraq war and I'm not a Marine, but I was
trained in youth and as a USAF NonCom to do what ever is necessary.
I'd shoot someone in a second, if they were a threat to me, my family,
my country, or some innocent being victimized.
Actually like hunting, the easy part is the killing, the hard part is cleaning
up the mess left over.

Yes the old Cold war is very attenuated.

Democrats never surrendered. They are still at
it.

may have ended the Kinetic war, but the
Democrats never surrendered. They are still at
it.
That Seattle water was bad for you.
I lived on well water in North Bend.
I was mostly teasing you. I get what you were getting at though. Was teasing about your "I was trained" things. Reminds me of the situation where there were Japanese soldiers that emerged from caves and jungle years, even decades, after the war was over, not fully aware of the state of things.
I lived in Seattle (King County) and then Snohomish County. In general, I drank filtered water as the taste was horrible coming from Hawaii's water.

Interesting article. I'm thinking the far left radicals will riot and reek violence even if Biden wins. They have been emboldened when they see their "protests" go unchallenged even when private properties have been destroyed, federal bldgs. and police precincts attacked, and citizens hurt or killed.
They're just using Biden/Harris as a stepping stone to their greater agenda.
If Trump wins I hope he puts quelling the violence from these far left radicals high on his priority list.
Restore Law and Order. The Democrats believe the recent violence needs "understanding", because it's the path to "healing....."
Fuck that shit.

Also consider classes. I'd have to look up the article/source, but it's about the purpose/role of middle class and how the "haves" utilize it as a buffer for the "have nots". Take a look a who, in general, are doing the "rioting and reeking of violence" and who and/or what agenda that serves.

First of all, who are the far left radicals, who are their leaders, and what is their endgame?
Borrowing from some elements of drck1000, I would offer that the riots and violence in America are based, on real issues. However, the poor and jobless, even before Covid-19, were being manipulated/fed communist ideas, in order to fight a war, against the remaining middle class.
Consider the following:
1. America's economy was in slow decline, since its lost its manufacturing base.
2. Covid-19 only exacerbated the weaknesses of America's economy, accelerating America's eventual economic collapse.
3. Fearing nationwide reprisals, upon the final fall of America's economy, the ultrawealthy (e.g. Soros, Rockefellers, etc.) ensures the remnants, of the US population, fight each other and forget about them completely, as being ultimately responsible, for the economic collapse, of their nation.
4. The ultrawealthy also begin a plan to militarily and economically goad other nations, such as China and Russia, to go to war, through their paid government stooges, in the White House and Congress; in order to further divert attention away, from themselves, as well as get rid of as many poor and middle class Americans, as possible, through a potential WWIII.
5. Whether America comes out the victor or vanquished, it does not matter, since they already have all the money, gold, generators, bunkers, guns, survival food and water, etc. In either circumstance, they can rebuild their fiefdoms, but have a smaller population, of starving and desperate American serfs, that will do their bidding.

Starting to see a lot more "Socialism is great" stuff being posted online again. :kickcan:

If Trump wins, especially if It’s another Electoral College win, garansballbarens some shit is gonna erupt in some cities.
Ironic thing is it’s the Left that burns and loots their own cities.
Makes no sense.
I’d like to see the Portlanders and Californians try to go into Texas or Arizona, etc. and try to riot in one of their cities.
Good luck with that.

"Both sides??"
Jesus H. Christ on a fucking cracker!
The NEWS this week (real news) is that the DNI, DHS and FBI (Look up the letters, they mean stuff), have reported concerted efforts by Iran and Russia to interfere in the election. Russia has the same info as Iran, but have not acted on it as of yet. Iran managed to obtain voter roles from various states and started sending out letters to voters threatening them with violence if they did not vote for Trump. The letters are purporting to be sent from The Proud Boys.
Both sides? Really?
Give it a rest, PLEASE, before you say something REALLY stupid. (or is it too late?)

So Iran interfering in our elections is the democrats fault? I am confused.
I am not caught up on the recent events but if its iran or russia, then I apologize for the misunderstanding. You cant ignore it cause it doesn't fit in your agenda. I still stand by the fact that both sides are bad. I've seen some similar threats from antifa.
-

Threats of financial harm are meaningless to you? Going to double your rent and potentially make you homeless if you don't vote for who I tell you to vote for? Are you supportive of this?

Okay, you obviously took my last comment as a challenge. And I was hoping you'd gotten as stupid as possible. Silly me!
You said "Both Sides", but the letters like Inspector linked to is in all likelihood sent by a foreign entity trying to sew seeds of division and interfere in the election. if nothing else, it distracts law enforcement and intelligence agencies from other crimes and attempts to illegally tamper with voters.
This is not coming from one "side" or both "sides." Trying to play the "what-about" game is just irrelevant in this instance.
-
False flag. From Reddit? or is that from your landlord?
Starting in 1977 I was stationed at McClellan AFB and lived off base, as they had piss poor base
housing that was reserved for officers and High ranked NCO's. I was just an E-5.
My off base landlord told me that if I voted for Prop 13 my rent would be reduced.
Prop 13 passed. My rent was reduced by $50 per month. When you make only
$850 per month and have a wife and a kid, that is a BIG deal!
I would have voted for CA prop 13 in any event, but the Landlord shared
the tax break.

Military compensation in the late 70s was horrible by any standards. If you had dependents, planned on having kids, or lived in an area with super-high COLA rates, you might be able to make ends meet. Many military families then qualified for welfare. That's a sad commentary considering what the service members sacrificed.
I entered the military in 1984, the year after Reagan's push to bring military salaries at a minimum inline with private sector jobs. I was lucky in the timing, but still my beginning pay for a 2nd Lt in the USAF was $18K. In 4 years, after I made Captain, it was double that.
As for the letters outlining what will happen under Biden, I see that as an effort to inform and persuade. That's no different than any other political campaign/support agencies. Obama and the Dems sold ACA on a lie of saving money, and I don't see ANYONE in MSM or Congress getting up in arms over that -- even though the bill represents the single largest tax program in US history.
-
I posted a definite threatening letter. Threatening setting fire to ones home and possible threats to life. The other letter is from a landlord telling the truth as to what will happen if Biden becomes elected due to his policies he promises to enact. The landlord’s letter even encourages his tenants to vote however they want. This example of what the other side is doing is not an example at all. Just more made up BS.
I have been googling for an hour and I have yet to find a threatening letter to a Democrat voter except for the fake Iran generated letters. Please provide a genuine threatening letter (threatening life or property as the one I posted does) to a Democrat or Biden supporter that is not one of the fake ass emails and social media propaganda from Iran. I’m not saying they don’t exist. I just want to see one and I can’t find one.

"Many military families then qualified for welfare."
My wife and daughter qualified.
There was an unwritten rule to not go on welfare.
If you thought about making a career in the military.
So I never applied.
Carter, his energy, and racial quota BS caused me
to bail on the military. I tripled my pay two days after
my separation. Only went up from there.
Never ever, ever vote for a Democrat!

The one you found is not a threat in any way shape form or manner. It is not from a right wing hate group threatening Biden supporters. The letter I posted is real and is being investigated in NH and KC and maybe other places. It threatens property and possibly life.
The big question is, why can’t you find a letter threatening the Biden supporters? There is a good reason. At this moment there isn’t one except the fake Iran emails, calls, etc. You said “Both sides are going off the deep end”. Looks like you just made that up. You are wrong again.

He calls that evidence.
Fact is I spent an hour trying to find a threat against Biden supporters. All these little millennial twits keep saying both sides are doing it. Really? Where’s the proof? More lies. I have a niece I am going around and around with right now on FB. Another millennial. She said the same thing. It is happening on both sides. Turns out the threats against Biden supporters were emails from Iran on Biden’s behalf. If you take away the Iran emails, calls and voicemails there is nothing I could find.
Now she is saying that a right wing group that hates trump sent the letter I posted. I asked her to name one right wing group that hates trump that incites violence. She said the Lincoln Group which is a PAC and the Never Trumpers. I agree they hate trump. But neither group has any ties to violence and threats. So I asked her to give me one name. [crickets]

The Democrats are stupid. They got caught sending out "Vote Biden!" and "Don't Vote Trump!" warnings.
Republicans were smart enough to include "Burn this when done reading. We'll know if you don't."

You call this proof? Once again you post links that don’t support what you are saying and support everything I am saying. Do you even bother to read what I say and what the articles that you post say? The first one is just more BS from you about a landlord saying to his tenants to vote any way they want. The second one is about a letter sent to Trump supporters which supports what I have been saying and is not what I asked you for. And the last one involves one mentally disturbed man threatening one citizen. Once again, I asked for proof that a right wing group is threatening property destruction and possibly life towards Biden supporters. The letter I posted is being investigated as being distributed by an organized group threatening numerous people across 1 or more states. Your example is an isolated incident which. My example is about numerous voter intimidation. Two very different things. You once again are grasping at straws. Just stop, you are making yourself look worse everything you post this crap.

Preaching to the choir, but good points for those who are considering buying guns. Amazingly, there are still many on the fence. Been getting a lot more “do you do handgun classes for permit to acquire” lately.

You are wrong in comparing China to Nazi Germany and Imperialistic Japan. To compare the Chinese people to Nazis without understanding their history and culture is very wrong, insulting to Chinese and irresponsible. Hong Kong was not "taken over".
Tell that to the millions of Uyghurs in concentration camps or the 60-100 million Chinese murdered by the Chinese Communist Party. It is ironic you do not think that the CCP is akin to the Nazis -Communism is a literally concept born of German thought. And while Nazism differs in that it was a reaction to the rise of Socialism (Diluted Communism) we all know both systems have only yielded mass murder and abject poverty wherever they went.
-
Tell that to the millions of Uyghurs in concentration camps or the 60-100 million Chinese murdered by the Chinese Communist Party.
First, where did you get these numbers? The CIA Factbook?
Second, concentrations camps? Did the people, who named them as such, ever visited them? Where is the photo-evidence, the crematoriums, etc.?
Third, if the CCP did indeed murder the millions of Chinese you claim, I don't see the Chinese people overthrowing the CCP any time soon, which says a lot.

First, do capitalist countries, such as the US empire, not have blood and other war crimes, on their hands?
Second, the non-capitalistic and non-democratic system you criticize in China has raised more people out of poverty and resulted, in the fastest growing number of millionaires, in the World, as of 2020. The US empire has never been able to match such success, during that same time span.

Hard to get photos if you are not allowed to take pictures. Though I doubt they actively murder people daily. They just imprison, torture, brainwash people who did nothing wrong other than being born in a different culture/religion/race. "The People" didn't overthrow the nazis, doesn't say much. People in fear tend not to rise up always.
You really think because of communism Chinese people have been raised out of poverty? You know most Chinese are still in poverty. Also how's communism working in Venezuela? All those rich folks, I hear that country is going great with that socialism.
If china took over Hawaii would you rejoice or would you rather there be original Communist Republic of Hawaii? Do you think previous Hawaiian monarchy was communist?
-

I have personally been to a number of such places and have conversed with many minorities in China, as being a Native Hawaiian minority myself, and have never been told the Nazi-like stories that the American anti-China propaganda has been spreading, on this issue.
People in fear tend not to rise up always.
More so lately; we, Hawaiians, beg to differ.
You really think because of communism Chinese people have been raised out of poverty? You know most Chinese are still in poverty. Also how's communism working in Venezuela? All those rich folks, I hear that country is going great with that socialism.
Yes, China's socialist system that incorporates certain elements, of free-market capitalism, is the primary reason, for their economic success. There are still many Chinese living poverty, but are slowly being raised, out of poverty, every year, not to mention the fast number of new millionaires China boasts. Not bad at all.
Also how's communism working in Venezuela? All those rich folks, I hear that country is going great with that socialism.
You can blame that on the US's geopolitical policy towards Venezuela, which makes no secret of its imperial desire, to set-up another puppet vassal state, in order to control that countries natural resources.
If china took over Hawaii would you rejoice or would you rather there be original Communist Republic of Hawaii? Do you think previous Hawaiian monarchy was communist?
First, China does not have a habit of invading other people's countries like how the US empire has done since its illegal annexation of Hawaii in 1898.
Second, the Kingdom of Hawaii was not communist, but incorporated a number of socialist principles.
-

So the getting out of poverty is worth losing all your free rights?
You can blame that on the US's geopolitical policy towards Venezuela, which makes no secret of its imperial desire, to set-up another puppet vassal state, in order to control that countries natural resources.
So their leadership and corruption is the USA’s fault? Not everything is the USA boogyman fault….
First, China does not have a habit of invading other people's countries like how the US empire has done since its illegal annexation of Hawaii in 1898.

Tibet clearly rejoiced and joined willing, so did hongkong. The fact they plan to take over Taiwan in the future is just their peaceful communist nature. Them fighting us in Korea and Vietnam was their form of foreign aid.
Second, the Kingdom of Hawaii was not communist, but incorporated a number of socialist principles.

No I don't know that. I have many Uyghur associates and the only ones that speak, of the atrocities you mention, are the ones, who love to give public speeches, to anti-Chinese audiences.
What fear? You know BLM are burning cities down, does fear exist in the USA?
You are very lucky to know that the reason Hawaiians have not resorted to that kind of violence is because we don't want to destroy our aina as well as the fact that the US empire is self-imploding, by itself. Hawaiians need only to be patient.
So the getting out of poverty is worth losing all your free rights?
You make it sound like Chinese people are slaves, in their own country. Western type democracy takes time and fundamental changes in culture, which may occur one day in China, but not right now. Economic progress first, young one.
So their leadership and corruption is the USA’s fault? Not everything is the USA boogyman fault….
Oh but it is. I would more than love to cite historical examples, of how the US empire, not the American Republic, has screwed other nations over, in another thread, of course.

These are skirmishes and not invasions or the toppling, of the body politic, of those nations listed.
BTW, Taiwan does not count, as that island belongs to China.
Tibet clearly rejoiced and joined willing, so did hongkong. The fact they plan to take over Taiwan in the future is just their peaceful communist nature. Them fighting us in Korea and Vietnam was their form of foreign aid.
Tibet, Hong Kong, and Taiwan are all part of China; plain and simple.
The Chinese participation, in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts were a response, to US imperial aggression. The US was not suppose to cross the 38th parallel in Korea nor approach the Yalu River. Vietnam was a little more complex.
Hows all the socialist Hawaiian programs working out for you? Hear the Hawaiian homelands is a wonderful corruption free program.
Those socialist programs are not Hawaiian's creation, but abominations, from the US, designed to prevent real social, economic, and national restoration progress.
-
Tell that to the millions of Uyghurs in concentration camps or the 60-100 million Chinese murdered by the Chinese Communist Party. It is ironic you do not think that the CCP is akin to the Nazis -Communism is a literally concept born of German thought. And while Nazism differs in that it was a reaction to the rise of Socialism (Diluted Communism) we all know both systems have only yielded mass murder and abject poverty wherever they went.
here we go...
I did not mention the CCP I mentioned the PEOPLE. To understand that is to live there and have relatives that still live there.
-
No need to get emotional, as I will respond, to your counterarguments rationally.
No I don't know that. I have many Uyghur associates and the only ones that speak, of the atrocities you mention, are the ones, who love to give public speeches, to anti-Chinese audiences.
I am sure there are some Jewish people who didn’t speak ill of Germany too. Doesn’t make the atrocities not happen.
You are very lucky to know that the reason Hawaiians have not resorted to that kind of violence is because we don't want to destroy our aina as well as the fact that the US empire is self-imploding, by itself. Hawaiians need only to be patient.
True I’ll give you guys that, atleast you know not to destroy your own home. But I doubt the US empire is imploding.
You make it sound like Chinese people are slaves, in their own country. Western type democracy takes time and fundamental changes in culture, which may occur one day in China, but not right now. Economic progress first, young one.
So you value economic success over freedom? Was slavery and the history of economic freedom in the USA the right way to start off a country?
Oh but it is. I would more than love to cite historical examples, of how the US empire, not the American Republic, has screwed other nations over, in another thread, of course.
Ok
These are skirmishes and not invasions or the toppling, of the body politic, of those nations listed.
They sent countless of people to fight on the other side against the US. How is this a skirmish? Just because they are bad at war and couldn’t take over a country on their own doesn’t mean they haven’t tried.
BTW, Taiwan does not count, as that island belongs to China.
Taiwan split from china and formed its own nation. It does not belong to China. Its like when USA broke off from Britain.
Tibet, Hong Kong, and Taiwan are all part of China; plain and simple.
False. Tibet was annexed. Tibet being annexed is all good. But Hawaii being annexed is bad? Atleast remain a little consistent.
Hong Kong was split off from the mainland china long enough to develop its own policies and culture. For someone who was so against Hawaii being taken over from its policies and culture it’s a bit weird you support another having the same thing happen to them.
Taiwan split from china and formed its own nation. It does not belong to China. Its like when USA broke off from Britain.
The Chinese participation, in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts were a response, to US imperial aggression. The US was not suppose to cross the 38th parallel in Korea nor approach the Yalu River. Vietnam was a little more complex.
I don’t think this thread is enough to expand on this situation as it is complex. But it was not truly a response for US aggression they had their own goals. They just teamed up with the losing side.
These socialist programs are not Hawaiian's creation, but abominations, from the US, designed to prevent real social, economic, and national restoration progress.
How is giving homes and land to Hawaiians designed to prevent real social, economic, and national restoration progress. Is Kamehameha designed to uneducated Hawaiians? Is Queens hospital designed to make Hawaiians sick?
This is my personal opinion, but I think they are designed to help and liberate the Hawaiians and improve their life. But with corruption and Hawaiian political fighting these programs have not fulfilled their purpose.
I am trying to have a rational conversation too.

No. You took offense to the OP's use of the word "China" and pointing out they are acting like present NAZIs. You took it to mean the Chinese People but that was not the original context. The use of CHINA (also pronounced CHY- NAA) refers to the system of government, ie the CCP, just as referring to Germany during the 40s automatically references the German National Socialist Workers Party - aka NAZIs.

What about any changes in how you approach or manage your investments?
Got some folks here you are retired or nearing retirement.

I’m not going to change my real estate investments. Especially not at the moment as real estate and rentals in the Phoenix market are hot hot hot and going up. I have insurance on all my rentals so if there is any damage they can pay. I even have rental loss insurance. The rest of my investments are in safe insured CD’s tho they are starting to come due and the newer CD’s don’t pay enough. So I am going to start taking money out of my traditional IRA’s and porting them over to my Roth IRA’s and pay the taxes now while the tax rates are at an all time low. Might as well do it before a Democrat takes office and undoes the Trump Tax Cuts that even Millennials get and don’t appreciate because they are little twits who have TDS so bad they need anger management classes!

This is my biggest unknown. Stocks have been a wild ride, fortunately I was able to profit off of it but I am not as sure long-term what will happen. I need a down payment for my mortgage in a year so I need short-term cash. But at the same time I don't want to miss out on potential earnings for the next year.

I was thinking more long term, but ok. What about your home as an investment?

I believe Inspector knows the tax laws. And you one can transfer fund with tax penalty. I'm not aware of a cap on that.

Both Traditional IRA’s and Roth IRA’s have their advantages. I made contributions to my Traditional IRA when taxes were much higher (During the Bush, Clinton and Obama years) than they are now. So I have not paid any taxes on my contributions yet. If taxes go up, and they will, the Roth IRA is NOT the way to go. If I had made all those contributions to my Roth IRA during the higher tax times I would have less money than I do now. Now, I am going to do a, IRA conversion/rollover from Traditional to Roth and I’ll pay a much lower tax rate (Thanks to President Trump) than if I just contributed to a Roth during the Bush, Clinton and Obama years. Make sure you know the differences and advantages/disadvantages of both types of IRA’s before you make blanket statements like “Roth is the way to go...”. It isn’t when taxes are higher like they were before Trump became president.
You are confusing my IRA conversion/rollover with a contribution. The contribution limits for a Roth IRA are currently $6000 for under 50 and $7000 for over 50. But I am not making a contribution. I am doing a conversion/rollover from Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA and there is no dollar limitation except an income limitation which I am not close to any more since I am currently retired.
I am being serious here. You are young enough to take advantage of all the different types of 401k, Traditional IRA and Roth IRA that you should have all of them so you can take advantage of all the different tax advantages when they occur. If Trump gets another 4 years I would recommend making max contributions to your 401K and Roth. If and when a Democrat gets back into office and raises taxes, I would recommend making the max to your 401K and your Traditional IRA. That way when you retire and you fall into the lowest tax bracket available, you can do what I am doing and that is a IRA conversion so you can pay lower taxes on your contributions. That way you take advantage of all the investment tools available to you while you are still in your best earning years.
-

Yes I am trying to transition from stocks to home for investment. At least in Hawaii property is almost always a better/best investment. I am only buying a condo, but after when I can afford land and a house I hope to not sell the condo and rent it out to pay off the mortgage. So when I retire I will have additional income. So not only does it earn value over time like stocks, someone else can help me pay for it ;D

Oh I see interesting. I'll be honest I have been ignoring my 401k and Roth for the past 6 years. All to save for a down on property. Had to make the tough decision which one was more important and long term, hopefully its the right one. Plan to use property to fund retirement, along with pension to survive.

Homes are great investments at the moment. Just like any investment timing is everything. But overall real estate is a good LONG TERM investment. Short term real estate kinda sucks unless you are doing a flip. But after doing my own flips I don’t think it is worth it unless you do one aspect of the flip yourself or own a contracting company. Flips are not easy and rarely make the kind of money you see on TV. Most of the flippers you see on TV are doing their own design work or contracting work. Which saves them a ton of money. Also, the good ones also have their own RE License in order to save a ton during purchase and sale. Just remember the Hawaii RE market is different than the mainland market.
I do my own taxes and have studied all the different IRS rules every year so I know what I can and cannot take advantage of. And you are correct I can do a conversion (transfer) without a limitation. But I still have to pay taxes on the contributions when they are removed from the Traditional IRA. But, instead of paying 35% tax on my contributions to a Roth IRA while I was working, I contributed to a Traditional IRA tax deferred. And now I am retired and in the 12% tax bracket. So when I pay the tax on my contributions I made over the last 40+ years to my traditional IRA it will be at 12% instead the 35% I was paying while working. By converting to the Roth I can keep investing in whatever and Enjoy all the benefits that come with the Roth IRA.
-

Quit ignoring your contributions to your Roth! If you are paying income taxes higher than 12% on your paycheck you are currently losing money by paying taxes on your paycheck and then contributing to a Roth. When you can contribute to the Traditional tax deferred and save whatever rate you are paying in your paycheck and then pay the lowest rate available to you when you retire and pull the money out. When taxes are low like they are now, and if you are not a huge earner and in the lowest or almost lowest tax bracket then it might make sense to stay in the Roth. But don’t ignore where you are putting your contributions. If you are a big earner and there is a big disparity between the tax you are paying on your paycheck compared to the lowest rate which is 12% presently, you will do much better by contributing to a Traditional IRA.
-

It’s good to be diversified but it is very important to have cash when you retire. Believe me, we have had to spend a shit load getting settled in to retirement. You are going to need a new car at some point and new furniture and upkeep on a house is not cheap. You only get your equity out of a house when you refi or sell. Otherwise you are going to need cash to fund everything. The good thing is if you have 60% equity in your home when you retire you can take advantage of a reverse mortgage if you decide if that is right for you. Or you can do what I did and that is to sell and move to a smaller cheaper house and have a smaller mortgage or cash left over after the sale. Just make sure you keep funding your 401k. At a minimum you should fund it at the same rate as your company match. Otherwise you are losing your company match money by not contributing.

I believe I paid ??? in the end last year. I know it was low. I get alot taken out pretax at work they allow everything from healthcare to parking to be pretax. Retirement contributions too. So my actual earnings is fairly low and if I remember I took losses on stocks. Not the best at taxes. But I did not put in roth or 401k just put everything into straight stocks to earn money for down payment.
Edit, looking at the brackets no idea. Thought I paid 9.5 but I made over 50k last year so thats not possible...

I work government so no match. We only have pension. I was exploring the moving aspect. My girlfriend currently works where they match and she maxes out so hopefully if we need cash that's where it can be.

Yup right now with the interest rates so low its basically no interest. Just keeping up with inflation. Property investment looks so amazing. Just got to be able to afford, and with covid there's a lot of uncertainty with the economy. Got to be careful almost nothing is worse financially than foreclosure or bankruptcy.

The Philly one got looted pretty badly. You know cause a black guy with a knife didn't drop it after being told to many times. Then started to come toward the cops. It's on video in case someone is doubting what happened. But then again, he wasn't convicted of having a knife and ignoring commands.

This is at the Hilo store. They had 3 boxes and I bought 1 of them.

All the looting and the rioting. Because of the injustice. ::)
Of course if that person was White. Or Asian. Or any other "opressed " nationality. Probably wouldn't make the news. Main stream news anyway...
Only Blacks are the superstars of this new era of "justice and equality".
Oh by the way, is there such a thing as a "smart pill"? Some of the things these people have been doing lately is just downright stupid.......
They need medicine.

I have a feeling they now take the firing pins or bolts out of the display models and keep them locked up.
Just contemplating how I'd handle it. Display inoperable firearms to facilitate customer viewing, bring out a NIB version from a secure storage area when making a sale, and trust insurance will handle looting of disabled weapons if necessary.
Seems reasonable to me.

Many moons ago I took the bolts out of my bolt action rifles and hid/stored them separately.
One reason was to keep people from stealing the rifles. Problem is I forgot where I hid two
of the bolts! I eventually found them, but just try to find a M1917 Enfield rifle bolt for sale.

When I first moved to Oahu I found a spotting scope for $40 on Craigs List. When I went to the guy’s house I bought the scope and a Ruger 10/22 that couldn’t fit into his safe. So he took the bolt out and lost it. I got it for $50. Good times!

I did this exact same thing years ago. Took me a while to remember where the hell I hid it. Just this past week I didn't want to take my excess mags to the range so I temporarily hid them in a plastic bag at home.
Came home and had to think real hard to figure where the damn things were hidden.

Get a hidden folder on your phone and write it down. Then don't lose your phone. I bought my first cell phone in 1990. A Panasonic monstrosity that had a cord and handset for $1300 and cell time cost 55 cents a minute on Honolulu Cellular. In 30 years I never lost or damaged a phone.

Better yet, take pictures on your phone. If you have cloud storage, you can usually create encrypted folders, and you can access them from almost any device if you lose your phone.
Murphy says your phone will be lost, stolen, destroyed or "accidentally" wiped by entering the unlock code 3 times (ala Mueller's investigators' phones :wtf:).
Either that, or get a small fire safe for the mags, bolts, P80s and stripped receivers. Those safes can be placed out of sight behind a bedroom door or in a closet if you can't find a hiding place. Regardless, you'll probably remember where the safe is!
Make sure to bolt it down so Kimo can't carry it off!

Even better than that, be like maksak..
You know, don't own any guns or ammo.

I’m trying not to be a hoarder. I have plenty of supplies and food in case I don’t feel the need to go to the grocery store and Costco for a few months. But after what I went through with the TP/Paper Towel/tissue/water panic buying causing a shortage that I had to deal with due to my move. I came very close to not having any TP. I can’t help but want to buy one more package of TP and Paper Towels and water.....
-
I’m mainly just stocking up on 22lr since my stockpile did not take into account my family getting into shooting
I’m learning how to reload. I should have more than enough reloading components for 9mm and 223 to last 5 years for my range needs.
Have more toys and mags than I need.
I thought trump was going to be ousted - and I vote republican - so I’ve been accumulating firearm/ammo stuff for a while. BLM and covid did throw me a curve as I was planning to buy a lot of 22 in the first half of 2020. They caused shortages earlier than I expected. The family taking up shooting only made it worse. Oh well, the family taking up shooting is a “nice“ problem to deal with.
Inspector - after covid, I think everyone picks up extra tp. Better to have and not need. We have like 2-3 months supply. But honestly, a handheld shower head works in a pinch.

I hear ya on the 22LR. Since I moved to the mainland right in the middle of this panic buying I have had a hard time replacing what I had. I had to get rid of all my loaded ammo since the moving company would not allow it in my container. We were supposed to move mid March so I figured I would stock up once I arrived in AZ. But my wife ended up in the hospital right before we moved. We didn’t end up actually moving until the first of April. Being alone in my empty house for two weeks I decided to see what the price of 22LR was and found it was pretty much gone. So I found the last 2,500 rounds of Blazer at one online outlet, 2,500 rounds of CCI SV at another and 800 rounds of CCI SV at another. I bought it all up and had them delivered to my nephew’s home in the Phoenix area. I kept checking all my usual outlets and have not seen it come back into stock unless I am willing to pay over 20 cents a round and up to 27 cents a round. Any way I figured that would have to last me until this is over. But then I started reading that there is no primer shortage and no ammo shortage in Europe. After realizing that the CMP sold Eley ammo (Made in England) I went out to their website and they have plenty. So I ordered another 5,000 rounds not knowing how well it would shoot in my guns. So far it has been pretty good. I have probably shot up around 2,000 rounds of it already. I think I should order another case.
I get on Ammo Seek everyday looking for my 3 favorites and I either can’t find any or it is way too expensive. In the meantime, my nephew in Phoenix got caught not understanding that he would not be able to get 9mm, 5.56 and 22LR due to the panic. So I have been making him ammo so he always has something to practice with. And I told him I would bring him some of my 22LR next time I see him. Gotta help family when in need.

"I had to get rid of all my loaded ammo since the moving company would not allow it in my container"
I walk the line.
This is info to be legal.
When you move you are allowed to have "Packed By Owner".
to be included.
Contents don't have to be declared and they aren't insured.
You are responsible if something goes wrong and you
get fingered.
I know most guys here are angels, but the one lesson I learned in life
is NEVER volunteer information, when it can hurt you.
Never lie! But never volunteer information.
Every year I get asked by the VA do you drink?
My answer now is "I due to Red flag laws I cannot confirm or deny
any consumption". That keeps them happy( plus clean blood tests).

Toilet seat bidets are cheap and work great. A roll of TP will last me 6 months now.

I bought a case of Charmin and put it in my bedroom closet. The rest is in a "common" storage space for the daughter and her family living upstairs.
If that runs out, they replenish it. Mine should last a year at least ... unless they get creative and start taking the roll in my bathroom! :wtf:

Need to look for more .308 ammo. Not directly a preparation for the 2020 election "aftermath", but continuation of shooting interests. . . or in this case, renewed interest.

The guy organizing this strike is from my old stomping grounds WA state.
It is the Thanks giving weekend so many will be off the road already, he
is just hoping to get half the ones that are still working to stand down for 4 days.
I think he would have more luck just saying how dangerous the large inner cities are
and getting truckers to stop delivering to those places.

Much of OR and Western WA started a 2 week lockdown. Or at least folks that I know in those areas were reporting. Haven't looked up all the details, but seems like certain areas like Redmond, WA the lockdown is being "suggested".

Correct, Mrs. CMO was in Portland and WA last week and they were prepping for the lockdown. WA has no indoor restaurant seating, gyms closed, movies closed. Outdoor gatherings limited to 5. At least you can smoke crack now and not get arrested. But you still can't use plastic straws.

As a follow-up to when I started this thread.
It looks like Biden may have stolen the election.
I found a 75 foot steel schooner for sale.
I'm working with a partner to purchase, repair,
and modify it for Cargo work.
If you haven't started to prepare for confiscation
and shortages in everything, better get in gear.

I've always held to at least 1,000 rounds per gun.
Even my air rifles.

Hypothetially, of course. . . ;)
I wasn't that into guns when I lived in Seattle. I do wish I shot more when I lived there. Lots of places to get out and shoot in the mountains. A buddy has a really nice "range" in the Mt. Rainer area. Targets at 200-1200 yards.
