This doesn't apply?

§134-C  Leaving unsecured firearm in vehicle unattended; penalty.  (a)  No person shall intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly store or otherwise leave a loaded or unloaded firearm out of the person's immediate possession or control inside a vehicle without first securely locking the firearm in a safe storage depository that is out of sight from outside of the vehicle.
     (b)  For purposes of this section, "safe storage depository" means a safe or other secure impact- and tamper‑resistant container that, when locked, is incapable of being opened without a key, keypad, combination, or other unlocking mechanism and is capable of preventing an unauthorized person from obtaining access to or possession of the firearm contained therein.  A vehicle's trunk or glove box alone, even if locked, is not a safe storage depository.
     (c)  This section shall not apply to a person in an exempt category identified in section 134-11(a).
     (d)  Any person who violates subsection (a) shall be guilty of a petty misdemeanor.

General Discussion / Gun in Car with CCW License

If you have a CCW license, and you go to a place that a gun is not allowed, is it legal to store your gun in a safe box bolted to your car or a safe box that is strapped to a bolted down fixture in your car?

I have a Bravo Concealment Glock 19 holster and it fits well with my Glock 43X.  How can this be? There's even a click when it's in place.

For the LTC checklist item, "Proof of State of Hawaii residency", what did you all provide?

Hawaii State Driver's license.  That's it

Did you tell them you already have a valid LTC for that pistol. And that you are just renewing it? They lady told me they only charge $150 if that pistol was never registered as a CCW pistol

That's not cool of HPD. They should already know who has one in their database, or once you picked up your license, they should have refunded you the $100.

Too bad not many cared to submit testimony when they were in process of changing the law.
CMO66, Did you renew?  I know before you mentioned that you were not going to do it.

General Discussion / Renewing CCW
« on: October 08, 2024, 08:54:25 AM »
I was thinking of renewing my CCW since it expires in late October. I realized it will cost a fortune.
$200 basic safety course (I took mine over 8 years ago)
$200 for CCW certification
$150 for registration at HPD
Total of $550 or $137.50 a year.  (The yearly breakdown is easier to swallow)

What are some of your thoughts?

I know it's only justifiable to the person carrying. Everyone has their reasons. For me, I just carried it a total of 12 times this past year (an average of once a month)

General Discussion / Re: HPD REGISTRATION E-MAILS
« on: January 09, 2024, 01:45:49 PM »
I submitted my handgun registration online in late October and still have not gotten my  registration approval yet
The email below 11/8 and 12/4

Aloha,
Thank you for your patience.
The online registration is backlogged 4-5 weeks.  You cannot use the firearm until you get the registration in an email from HPD. If you want the registration sooner you can come in person, no firearm needed, to register. You will need the information on the firearm, a picture/copy of the permit, and a picture of the serial number off the firearm.
If you have any questions please call (808) 723-3188

Aloha,
HPD is still working on online registration requests. It is unknown when your registration will be finalized.

You are still able to come in person to register the firearm. No firearm needed, just take a picture of the serial number on the firearm and a copy/picture of handgun permit or original long gun permit.

General Discussion / Re: 4 years of CCW in Honolulu
« on: November 21, 2023, 10:37:34 PM »
This sucks because all of us who have their CCW permit will have to take another class and written exam and proficiency test to renew our CCW AND take another firearms safety course that is HPD approved

I was just looking forward to renew my proficiency test. Ughh  :shake:

Why not just add an addendum?
Because it's dumb to add an addendum?

I'm assuming that we will have to take another lecture and exam with another proficiency test.  And not just a proficiency test for the "4 year" activation on 1/1/2024.

Can you folks confirm that if we get our CCW permit 1/1/2024 that it will be good for 4 years.
I see a pattern:
4 years firearm safety until renewal
4 years of CCW
4 years to wait for HPD certified instructors
4 years HPD firearms department will get a long vacation 😂

General Discussion / Online Gun Registration HPD

Here's what I got from an email from HPD firearms department
"Aloha,

Funny thing, it took me less than a day to purchase a handgun and take it home, but I can use it for another 2 to 3 weeks🙄 unless I go to HPD to register the gun in person.
