No, it really doesn't.  I've already listed two examples and there are 100's more.  There are firearns that are easier to make than pipe bombs.

The only 700 I know of is a Remington rifle.

Indeed, I am referencing the firearms you're thinking of.

I have been focusing more on 22LR since on Oahu, most of us can only shoot out to 100 yards on a whim.  For the Remington, I was actually going to mention the 40X Rimfire but I figured the 700 is more common.

In any event, as my firearms have either been scratch built or assembled from parts except for my Remington 870, Glock 32, Savage MK 1, and Remington Speedmaster, I tend to "see" the inner workings of various firearms in my mind so as I read the second article Heavies linked to, the models I mention popped into my mind for the reasons stated in the previous post.

This is yet another repeat of history.  In the UK, personally manufactured firearms are outright prohibited but someone who not only believed in the Right to defend oneself but also that it is impossible to prevent personally manufactured firearms distributed plans for a firearm built from iron pipe and fittings.  Unfortunately, the individual passed before final judgement so was branded a "terrorist" by the Govt.  The fact that the individual was arrested for distributing information should be a concern.

Looking a little further back, the Liberator pistol plans, ironically distributed by the Allies.  Think about that for a sec...  If one looks hard enough, information pertaining to personally manufactured firearms are very plentiful and a lot does not require specialized equipment and/or processes.

With that in mind, the question that comes to mind is why is this so?  If one looks at the 2nd and applies "shall not be infringed", the answer is pretty clear.  Add to that lessons from the past where gun control was in place, the importance of such knowledge is reinforced.

Looking at the past and compare it with the current attitude towards the 2nd, one would realize the popularity of the 80% is a direct result of said attitude.  This further reinforces the fact that the AR platform is the platform of choice, especially when there are other platforms that are similarly available and that a fully automatic firearm would be a much simpler build and with less tooling to boot.

Considering all of this, it is just idiotic that an organization that supports the 2nd would have a stance against personally manufactured firearms.  Any such individual within such an organization should not have any voice for the organization.

Pretty sure the issue presented in this article was brought up numerous times before the 2014 arrest but oh well...

In any event, it should be noted that in question are ATF's "Definitions".  This alone brings into question Bump Stocks and Binary Triggers but better still is pretty much the exact same situation applies.  Food for thought.

I've been skimming a number of lots in that general area.  The biggest hurdle would be getting access into the lot far enough to set up a storage site for small equipment and maybe an ATV that wouldn't be too tempting for the unscrupulous.  I figure I can work during a visit once a month plus a dedicated month to make a vehicle path and a clearing for a septic system.

With that in mind, some lots that have been given up on by previous owners are tempting because some of the work is done such as incomplete cabin, septic system installed, and partial clearing.  One 2 acre lot is really tempting as it has all three of those done but it's 50K.  Unfortunately, it looks like there's also a couple of abandoned vehicles there too.

I have to say though, shooting on one's property without the neighbors getting upset could make up for starting from square one.

On a random, just curious whim I was looking online at land for sale on Big Island.  While looking at an acre of lava field for $5K was interesting, I was wondering why a number of 10+ acres of cleared land in Kohala Ranch was still listed after a few weeks for less than $300K (<$30K/acre)?

I know it's not cheap but considering forested land is listed at around $25K/acre around Pahoa & Kurtistown, I'm guessing location is part of the equation.  I'm also wondering if being a gated community is part of it too.  Honestly, that kinda makes me think I wouldn't be welcome there either...

Anyway, I was just curious.  I'd have to wait another 4 years minimum before I could get serious about a $300K mortgage.

During the time of our Founding Fathers, bearing arms included whatever a standing army would have at its disposal, should the need arise for the People to take arms against a tyranical Government.

The reasoning behind this couldn't have been made any clearer when an elected representative within the government makes comments about using military force to attack defenders of a Constitutional Ammendment.  I am appalled that this did not receive any sort of attention similar to what is going on now with the AG or ongoing with the President.

The fact that someone who swore to defend the Constitution even THOUGHT that is enough to question their integrity.

Firearms division is very narrow minded regarding AR pistols.  They will basically use any and every means at their disposal to prevent the existence of such a firearm on Oahu irregardless of what the Law says.

Even when the firearm is legal by definition, they still apply law intended for "assault pistols" to said firearm.

I would recommend if the pistol cannot remain out-of-state is to build an 80% with a welded mag(well), stamp some serial # on it, and register that assembly.  For the pistol lower at the Federal level, it can be converted to a rifle and back again if it begins life as a pistol.  There are no HI State Laws concerning this so only the Federal Laws would apply.

Another option would be to attach a 16" barrel or greater rifle upper to the pistol lower.  A pistol with a barrel 16" or greater is not an "assault pistol" but must only use 10 round magazines.  On the Federal level the pistol parts are accountable with the pistol lower and HI State Laws don't have any applicable laws for pistol parts.  So long as they are not assembled together in HI, they are legal.  If going this route however, just remember the above statement regarding HPD's attitude towards AR pistols.

There's also the remote possibility if going this route HPD will simply register it as a rifle.  Since the registration is only applicable in HI, just let them if they insist.
