General Discussion / Re: 2nd State Capital Rally FEB 8th!
« on: January 30, 2013, 11:18:16 PM »
it was mentioned that our some of our elected officials vote the way the "activists" affect them....
meaning that those groups that make the loudest noise, get the votes!!

Is this to hear a bill or for the rally?
this is for a rally along with the rest of the Nation.
please be there if you can.... for ALL of these "call to actions".
it truly makes a difference.  our representatives said so themselves.

Just to keep things straight...

There is another call to action!!
FRIDAY (yes Friday...gasp, a work day!!) February 8th 10am to noon at the State Capital.
Please please please be there.  This is one of the most important reasons to take the day off work.
Or take a half day since it's just 2 hours of your time to support your ability to keep and use firearms!
This is important.  You can see what large groups of us can do... we killed that instructor liability bill today!
It's good that people here normally don't say anything so that when there is a time to react such as this, it is overwhelming to the representatives because they don't normally see the types of attendance and feedback that we've been submitting thus far.

So let's keep up the pressure and keep this going because our very Rights are at stake!

Guys, we are running short of time to organize and publicize this.

We either do 2/8, 2/22 or do both!

For something this important, I can't think of any reason not to do both.  :)

THIS.

umm, it's a great flyer, and i'm sure you all put a lot of work into it, but is that image the one we want to project on the public?
not a complaint, just a comment
you guys are doing a great job organizing

I had some reservations on it as well.
We didn't create it.
I think it was by Nutnfancy.

Should I remove the reference to it?  Yes, I think I will.

I know we'll have plenty of folks taking pictures and video so everything should be well documented.
Have those cell phones and cameras ready to document any illegal activity by the anti crowd for law enforcement.

Remember, the Press will be there and everyone needs to be on their best behavior.

Some points that are key in a debate, is that the we all stay calm, focused, well articulated, modest, and not let the 'opponent' take advantage of our good nature to get us upset and engage in a frivolous verbal yelling match.  The main character from movie Ip Man comes to mind.
8
one thing of note.  its possible you'll get negative reactions from passersby.  DONT respond.

even if they throw shit at you.  just take it and smile.  reacting makes us look violent.  not reacting makes anti gun folk look hypocritical.

That is an excellent point.  Yes, do not overreact and get up in arms in any attempt to "get even" when someone does not share the same view as you do; or if someone does something that is socially unacceptable or even illegal.

I'm an absolute firm believer in the Law of Attraction and believe that if you have in your mind that others' are against your thoughts and beliefs, then you will attract that powerful negative energy to satisfy that condition.  The universe will make that happen. On the other hand, if you think positively and truly believe what you deserve, you will achieve that goal as well.

Anyhow, keep with the original plan and just support the Constitution as it stands, and try not to fuel the energy of the people that don't yet understand.

Here's the flyer to print out and hand out.

edit
Sorry, link removed as the flyer was does not promote in a positive light what we're attempting to accomplish.

Where do we park for this march?

It looks like a rather large group has begun to form so please expect to arrive prior to noon so that you may find parking in the surrounding areas and be able to join us.
I plan to park somewhat away and bicycle in.
There's usually parking further down on Punchbowl as it's a Saturday, there won't be people parked for business.
I believe that this is an important enough event to pony up the $5 or so dollars for parking that a previous member posted.
Others' may borrow the kid's razor scooter or skateboard?  or just walk.
Please make sure to bring some refreshments as it may be a warm day.
Sun block as well.
An umbrella in case it's a rainy day.
Don't forget your American flag if you have one!!

Has there been any update in the thread about the meeting that happened with the organizers?
Is the plan show up with a sign and wave to cars?
Anything else that needs to be done?

It seems that there are at least 2 groups which are currently being combined to create this event.
At the moment, its a grassroots movement with only the donation of a few people to purchase materials for signs and any printing costs.
It was mentioned that just having the American flag would send a strong message as it is symbolic of the very core our Nation was founded upon, which is our Constitutional rights.
People may get carried away with the sign content and that would send the wrong message at this important juncture.
The idea is to send a message that over 99% of firearms owners are good law abiding people and not to fall into the sterotypical gun nut that anti-gun supporters think we are.

So camo clothing and other tactical gear, empty holsters, yelling and screaming random thoughts to passing cars, signs with firearms silhouettes and other overly extreme pro 2A statements(ahem, Aiea78), etc etc is not appropriate.
This will be a quiet, peaceful gathering to show our overwhelming support of 2A and that nothing should be changed to further prohibit the good guys from what our Founding Fathers originally meant; which is not subject to interpretation nor modification.

We will stay off the lawn(since we may not have a permit to gather), have an orderly gathering, and clean up after we're done so that nobody can say anything remotely negative about what had transpired.   So no one will be arrested for any type of civil disobedience or similar.  There simply will be no reason.

A mass gathering to show our support of 2A along with the rest of the Nation on the very same day.  Simple.

I wonder if the Occupukes had to apply for a permit for their "protests." Anyways, I'm in. If it's on a Saturday, I can make it.

Thank you in advance for your support!!   And please spread the word to friends and family!!

Here's something of a positive note from the wsj of all sources:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324081704578234010962821032.html

This is why we need to keep up the pressure with events such as the one proposed and let our representatives know where we stand on our rights which are very broad and does not include things like specific exclusions as the executive branch proposes.

From the Instructions for Special Use Permit (CSD-SUP Form 1):

"Applications for Special Use Permits, together with all required insurance certificates, must be received ten (10) working days prior to the date of the planned event or activity to allow for adequate time for processing and approval."

Thank you very much for looking into that.
Does anyone know how groups just "form" and congregate for events such as protests in a short time?
Does this mean that either we stand on the sidewalk as someone previously suggested, or that we have a peaceful event on the property anyway, so that the press can document the event and the authorities kick us out when they've seen enough?
Either way, we need local media to add us to the Nation wide media coverage as we're the last time zone.

btw, anyone have ties to local press?  or maybe they'll just show up?  maybe they shouldn't know about our intentions until that day so that the property cannot be roped off?
14
Is there someone "leading" this event?  Has any of the local groups or LGS's showed any interest in participating?  Is there a head count of how many plan to be involved?  Looking at the amount of people that have read this post (over 900) We should have a decent amount of support.  I know everyone has busy schedules, as do I, but I do think this is important and we need to (as the 2a community) show some numbers.  Can someone who is part of organizing this pm me?

PM sent

Oh joy..

I called an insurance agent from Island Insurance, and she stated that for events such as weddings, where they expect 25 people to show up at a beach and attend the ceremony, it would cost a couple hundred dollars.

In such an event like this where I don't really have control over the situation, especially if we're holding up signs and waving at traffic, she said it will easily go up into the thousands of dollars.  I expected to pony up my own money, but I won't be able to afford that.  Island Insurance said no one on island will be able to underwrite it, and it will have to be someone on the mainland.  Also, they will want to know exactly what signs will be waved and exactly what we want made known, among other things.  I'm waiting for another email from the insurance agent, but it's not looking good special-use-permit-wise...

First off, thank you so very much for all the efforts you and the others have put forth.
The attention to the details of having a successful event that you and others have brought up are amazing.

There's a group meeting tonight to discuss details of leadership etc.  The results will be shared asap.

Also, has anyone heard from any of the local pro2A organizations like LIFE and HRA?  Or the position on any of the representatives on this event?
We truly need all the support from the entire island and outer islands we can get.  This is super important if you enjoy your firearms(and ammo, and mags, and other neat stuff) and the ability to defend your rights.

What about the mention of taking up a collection for some of the expenses?

We have one full week but less if you consider business days.

Any other helpful suggestions or volunteers?

You are going to protest on the 19th, a SATURDAY??? That's a fricken EPIC FAIL. The Capitol is closed for business on Saturday. As in no one will be there!!! Who are you going to protest to? The fish?   :shake:

Y'all might want to change the date to the 18th.

Maybe you can get a better turn out on sat. Someone better call the media, and you need a permit or the sheriffs will just shut you down.

Went back and checked out your all your posts... guess one shouldn't expect any kind of positive response on a topic so important from someone who views the negativity in things first .
Thank you for your enlightening contribution to the topic.

It doesn't matter since all 50 states are doing the same.
You wouldn't care what day you chose if YOU were able to organize a similar event that would mobilize tens of thousands, hopefully hundreds of thousands of like minded Americans or more NATIONWIDE.

So nutnfancy says to go to the state capital and gunappreciationday.com says to go to gun stores and ranges. I'm confused :/

Should be the State Capital.  Wouldn't it be more effective?
Of course it's probably closed on Saturday but the building represents our State and Federal Government headquarters.

Again, can someone quarterback this??  Really doesn't matter as long as the attention is there and everyone is at the same location.

Who's leading this thing?  What's the plan?  I'm absolutely down to show up, but someone needs to take charge of this thing so it doesn't just end up being a big mill-around on some government grass.  HiCarry might be a good one to head up this effort, or the HRA?

You sir, are absolutely correct.  Can someone start a poll of potential leaders who can QB this thing?  A person who can accurately and responsibly articulate the position of the group without coming off like the 'gun-nut' that the anti-fireams people stereotype.
The entire nation will be watching.  With all my heart, I hope that it won't just be ~25 of us just standing around in a circle holding signs like we were picketing.  I would like to see major media there.  Facebook posts, twitter feeds, etc etc exploited to the MAX and in good taste to benefit 2A.  This is truly for our heirs and not to be taken lightly.
I want my kid to enjoy the same freedoms that my father showed me, beginning with the 2nd amendment.
This is serious and will have very little chance of getting reversed so we need to send a strong message to our elected officials that good citizens DO NOT support any further restrictions on firearms.  There are enough laws regarding firearms and good people are not the ones who are the root cause of violence.
Unjustified homicide is is illegal yet criminals continue to commit murder.  Penalizing good people from being able to defend themselves is not subject to discussion and calling 911 is for the police to document the crime.
The anti-firearm folks need to stop blaming inanimate objects and get to the root of the problem which is the break down of the traditional morals and values of the American nuclear family.

Anyhow, a list of ideas to organize and list of volunteers for leadership?

Anyone have access to sign board type materials and paint or other marking products for signs?
design ideas?

Let us collaborate.

Sounds good . A voice may not be heard ,but an army of voices could . It's time for the other side of this story to be told .

That's what I'm talking about!!

Kinda like "The organized minority will always beat the disorganized majority"... and I meant that to be in the 2A People's favor in this case!!
