Legal and Activism / Flying in California with handgun
« on: February 19, 2026, 02:46:52 PM »
I'm looking for any information about flying into California with my pistol.  I have an upcoming trip where I will be flying into San Diego, staying for a few days, then driving to Vegas, and flying home out of Vegas.  I don't plan to carry in California, i only have Hawaii and Arizona carry licenses.  My pistol is on the California DOJ handgun roster (Springfield Armory XD9801).  It would remain locked up (per TSA requirements) at my Air B&B during my time in CA.  I should be ok right?  Am I forgetting anything, or have I overlooked some regulation I dont know about?   Any knowledge or advice is welcome.
Thanksl

Legal and Activism / New Kauai police chief
« on: March 05, 2019, 08:58:21 PM »
Just saw on the news that the new Kauai police chief is from Las Vegas.  Perhaps he is more open minded when it comes to CC permits? Or maybe he will continue to have the same attitudes as the current regime of police chiefs.

On a side note, I commend those of you who actively and continually fight for our (limited) 2A rights. Some days when I see/read  anything gun related and the anti gun views of the morons in power in our increasingly communist state it frustrates me to no end.

General Discussion / Re: 80% registration?
« on: January 23, 2019, 07:44:52 PM »
Funny story.  Not sure if true since its a "person heard it from a person kind of story."  But someone apparently tried to register a couple of completed 80% pistol receivers on the Big Island and the police told them "they dont have serial numbers so you dont have to register them"  If true, I wonder how many are out there floating around because the police dont think they need to be registered?  true ghosts on the Island of huaka'i pō?

Given how they do not know the law on who needs a mental health clearance assessment, I would not be surprised if this was true.

The above is true, I’ve heard a similar version from a reliable source. When the police said "they dont have serial numbers so you dont have to register them", what they really meant is they have no procedure in place to register unserialized lowers.  At least they didn’t confiscate the lowers.

General Discussion / Re: Shooting on the Big Island

16 mile marker range on Saddle road is the only public range on the island for handguns.  Anyone shooting there must have a valid Hawaii hunting license.  The only other public range is the skeet range by the Hilo transfer station but that's shotgun only.
If you and your kids don't have a hunting license your only other (legal) option is private land that's not within city limits.
All the indoor shooting ranges have since closed.

they filed a motion to extend time

So they're asking for 45 more days, until 9/15? If that motion gets granted, what does that mean exactly?
The Hawaii court has to rehear the case by 9/15? Sorry, not trying to be ignorant, but legal jargon and procedure confuses me.
Lol, trying to not get my hopes up but at the same time I'd like to know what's happening, what's ahead, timeframes ( hopefully not another 6 years), etc.

Sounds good.  Also, there may be options for say a 100% online Texas non-resident Hunter Safety course and then filing the exemption request via Hawaii in order to purchase a Hunting License in Hawaii.  I hold a Texas hunters ed cert.

Texas is no longer 100% online, it was changed and now requires the online participants to do a in person field day, similar to the Hawaii online process.

General Discussion / Re: Selectfire gun shop Hilo?
« on: January 15, 2018, 01:13:24 PM »
To the folks living on the big island especially in or around Hilo, has anyone ever been to Selectfire? What’s it like compared to the other gun shops in the Hilo area? It’s located at such an odd place and I just never hear anything about the store.

Selectfire used to be in the Ironworks building, he works out of his home now though. The majority of his stock is rifles, and he does custom builds (AR,AK) but he also has pistols as well. Nice guy, easy to work with. If you have instagram search selectfiregunsandammo. All his contact info is there
