Such hate for rail.  I'm one of the few here who sorta likes it I guess.  Then again ive seen first hand (japan) how good rail can be.  I think we are one of the very few states with no rail services.  Hence so much fucking traffic.  If rail shaves 5 minutes off my commute its worth.

Unless you work in one of the half dozen stops this rail will service, you'll be taking a bus to/from the rail stations.  So, if that's the case, why not use a bus for the entire commute instead of pay for two modes?

In Japan, rail goes everywhere. In fact, the trains are the only real means of transportation for most people. It's great!  My Japanese friend there has a car and he takes it out for a joy ride only on the weekend.  Cars are more of a luxury there.

In Hawaii, cars are a necessity.

Cause for long distances bus's are slow traffic causing madness.  No one wants to take a bus that will take longer than a car to travel.  But if rail can make the bus/rail commute faster than car people may switch.

We can always improve/fix things.  There is no reason why cars MUST be the only viable option.  Its always good to have choices, one step at a time.  We have this rail. Then we can add rail to UH, kaneohe, hawaii kai, more routes downtown, etc . 

The rail is expected to reduce traffic congestion by 1%, so banking on "people may switch" isn't a good planning goal.

For a population of 1 million, and a cost of over $12billion SO FAR (not counting maintenance), the rail will never be self-sustaining.

Yes, maybe rail PER SE might be a good idea, but IN CONTEXT it is ridiculous.

I am reminded of Fukushima and how people said, what a stupid idea it was to build a nuclear reactor in a quake + tsunami zone.

When one is faced with LIMITED RESOURCES it is imperative to seek the BEST and MOST OPTIMAL use of those resources (money, time, brain power, physical energy, raw materials, etc.) to fix problems, improve operations, etc.

The results of rail speak for itself. It is nowhere being completed, and whatever has so far been built is not even that stable. It's ridiculous.

Imagine a quake or tsunami knocks everything down one day. Then what have you got?

Better to use the resources to make sure everything else ESSENTIAL works first (like that sewage blowout problem that now is like a yearly event) THEN we can look at these other improvements.

I haven't even mentioned POT HOLES!

I move we focus our energy on renovating khsc to be storm proofed - with the exception of some muddy roads and humidity Darby has left the house.

Ok and if rail gets built have it reach khsc for the west side guys to get there with ease - couldn't we then get some funds from rail to improve khsc

Tons of rain and there was one lightning strike in particular that made the loudest sound I have ever heard in my whole life. Sounded like a cannon or gunshot. The noise and flash were simultaneous so I know it was close. The other lightning strikes were not loud or noteworthy at all. Searching the news just now turned up http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/32530039/lightning-jolts-kaneohe-home-leaving-holes-in-wall-and-sidewalk so my guess is that it was that bolt.

Ironically never lost power or even the internet. When I lose power all the time, and complain about HECO. Probably because there wasn't much wind.
