Can i cut my own shotgun barrel legally?
« on: February 07, 2017, 07:23:30 PM »
I was wondering is it legal to cut my own barrel down a few inches?  My barrel is at 28" i would like to cut it down to 19".  It will still be a legal shotgun. (Barrel over 18" & overall length more than 26") but i am wondering if i can do it without any consequences.  I had already posted about this but am still unsure.  Any info would be helpful  :shaka: :shaka: :shaka:

Why would you make another post on the same subject when people are replying to your previous post ?

I am sorry, i dont mean to waste anyone's time.  I just really didn't get a straight answer.   You told me keep the barrel over 18" & overall over 26".   But am I allowed to do it myself?   When i called firearms, she said i could face penalties, but she did not say it was illegal.  I am just confused. I like my mossberg but 28" is too much. Im not hunting with my 12 guage, just for home defense as a last resort.

Instead of cutting the 28" why not get a factory Mossberg 18.5" barrel.  Lots of sites sell 500 platform HD barrels and pretty reasonable at about $150 for plain finishes.   Not sure what model you have but Mossberg parts are plentiful.  No problems, questions or worries that way.

That's what I did.
Factory mossberg 18.5" barrel runs around $100 before shipping.
Fits the Mav 88 like a champ.

Then you still have the double bead, ribbed 28" barrel with chokes also.

If you cut it down wouldn't you lose the bead front sight.

Thats what i was thinking about but ive recently invested my money into a few Glock pistols, so at this time i dont have the money to buy me another mossberg barrel & im not hunting with it, just for home defense to keep in my room as a last resort.  So instead of buying a 18.5 barrel i just wanted to cut mine down to 19" to be safe.

If you're referring to "Boogie Nights" and Mark Wahlberg, did you know Wahlberg, a convicted felon, is a big civilian disarmament fan and that because of his felon status may not use the blank-firing real firearms in all the movies where he is using firearms? They all (supposedly) have to be non-firing "replicas", with the "bang" and "pew" and smoke and flame all added via post-CGI. At least that's what I read somewhere. I'm just sayin'...

Actually I was referring to The Dirk Diggler Story. Which was based loosely on the life of Johnny "The Wad" Holmes. I know this movie was not supposed to be a comedy but I find humor in things not necessarily meant to be humorous.

I forgot the name "Dirk Diggler" was used in Boogie Nights. Man I am getting forgetful. I didn't know that about Wahlberg. Yet, nothing from Hollywood surprises me anymore.

He viscously attacked some Asians, got busted, went on to become an anti gun celebrity, and then shamelessly crawled back into Boston courts to have his convictions overturned so that he could carry weapons for "self protection". Real piece of excrement.
