Anyone have a link to a concise history of how they made up rationally derived these numbers from data/evidence? While you at it how about a link to the New York seven round handgun mag limit...

I called the firearms department & the lady told me if i cut my own barrel i could face serious penalties?   I dont understand, my gun would still be a legal shotgun, barrel longer than 18" & overall length over 26"?    I want to cut it, but i dont want to go to jail or loose my right to bear arms!

I hate to have to tell you this, but you really can't (necessarily) believe anything you are told by the police department personnel regarding your rights and the law. You'd need to first talk to a supervisor and ask them to cite you the specific HRS section that governs whatever decision that supervisor states governs his claim. Then you could write the chief and the AG asking them to confirm the supervisors opinion and HRS reference. Then cross your fingers and make a wish. We all know that what you want to do has absolutely no possible effect on "public safety" nor any other justification they might try to use to assert that you are a criminal, BUT since they can claim that words mean anything they say they mean (such as their claim that the constitutions' "right to bear arms" is satisfied by only carrying arms while hunting, at a range, and inside your residence or business or place of sojourn), you probably have to hire a lawyer to be on the safe side.

They lied to you.

HPD is full of shit.

Better luck for the correct legal info here than calling HPD.

Yea i was very confused when i spoke to the lady.  She NEVER used the word illegal, but she said i could face penalties.  I was confused because my shotgun would still be within the legal limits.  She just made it sound like if i cut my own barrel then i would be doing something illegal.

Yes, the barrels & stocks are interchangeable between the mossberg 500 & maverick 88.  But i dont really have money to buy another barrel so i would just like to cut my current barrel & save some Mula!
