What idiot got up and started saying we let people walk in front of others while they are shooting???????  What the hell was that guy talking about.?!

He was talking about the fact taht you can see people walking the kokohead tramway.  Hikers are the "people downrange" he was referring to.

I think that point was completely missed on the far right side lol.  As I've said on our FB discussion, we were all like wtf? lol.

I can say it didn't come across as hikers to some people sitting at the table, just kind of confusing.  Thank you clarifying, I can retract my negative term as I kind of feel bad about it.

The place was pretty packed. I am very happy to see there are so many shooters who want to support the range. I want to note that there was a lot of good input. I also asked if we were going to finally get a government sponsored website with the range hours, rules and frame dimensions, etc. Gary said we would. It sounds like the west side range could become a reality. It will be a while but it sounds like it is on their radar. Which to me is a great thing.

I appreciate Chris Baker's effort towards his concerns. I think he has been very active behind the scenes. I wanted to make the point that we have a written record that the two reports of a bullet found in the backyard and ricochets flying over the heads of those on the Kokohead tram trail were not substantiated. This can be used to our advantage at a later time if it is on record. Second I wanted to try and get rid of the use of that political term they came up with "World Class Range". I wanted to let Herb know that if he truly intended to give us a "World Class Range" that the items they were proposing to do to the range were counter productive to making the range "World Class". The look of surprise on his face when I said that was priceless. When one tries to sugar coat unpopular changes to the range by calling it "World Class" the first thing we need to do is make sure he knows what a "World Class Range" really is. He backed down from using that term immediately. Now we are going to get a "State Class Range" LOL!!! Typical.....

Mr. Knudsen, the complainant, was present but didn't speak while the meeting was in session.

I have to wonder if this Knudsen character is the same one that tried previous times to get the range shut down.  I was living in Hawaii Kai during an earlier attempt, that time I believe using "little mothers" concerned for their keiki playing in the rec center next to the range.  They could HEAR the shots!  The horror!  Lots of hand wringing but nothing happened.  Did not save anything, but I would bet this same clown was involved then as well.  Seems to be his white whale to be slain.........

The BS about spent rounds in Kalama valley has been around before too.

Sounds like you guys did good.  Sorry I am no longer on Oahu to help out.

Thank you all who attended and gave testimony.  I received an update yesterday afternoon and it sounded like the meeting went rather well.

As for the unsubstantiated claims of rounds on that guy's house, sounds like with the testimony from the gunsmith, retired HPD officers and the responding officer, it sounds like the "case" (not that there ever really was one) is closed.

Hopefully the way foward is a positive one for KHSC and that many of the proposed improvements, like the comfort stations, are implemented.

Good stuff!

Considering that the City is willing to install a "No Blue Sky" type roof on the rifle side,

I'm surprised that no one suggested the Renovation and Re opening of the pistol range next to the shotgun range

with the same type roof.  Perfect for holding gun classes.

Even has rest room facilities.

Agree with above... thanks to those who offered testimony in support of the continued use of, and improvements to, KHSC.

To those in attendance, or to those "in the know," were there any definitive decisions made at the meeting, or were any timelines/deadlines established?

Two points, Old Guy.
1.  An actual classroom was discussed and held up as a good idea by the parks director
2.  The restroom facilities at the shotgun range have been shut off, and since they use a septic tank system, there is no plan to re-enable them.

Has anyone considered creating a Friends of KHSC donation fund?

Thinking aloud:  But how would you ensure that all funds collected by such a donation fund are allocated solely and directly to the KHSC?

If you gave the money to the City with the condition that it be used ONLY for KHSC, they can't use it for anything else.

There was a woman there (I think her name was Donna?) that was talking about doing a fund raising for the range. If we raise $5k for the range and present the check to the C&C with a stipulation that it only gets used for the range then the C&C has to use it only for the range. That was what was told to us. I hope she follows through as I told her I would help her with a fund raiser.

Or maybe I could just sell my Majik Brownies outside Safeway to raise some money?

Did anyone catch Donna's last name (or have access to the Meeting minutes) to confirm what she said?

Anyone know why the specific amount of $5,000 was identified?  Will C&C do a "matching funds" kind of arrangement?  What type of improvements could we expect to see as a result of the $5,000 donation?

Damn... I should have attended that meeting.

P.S.  So, Inspector....... tell me more about those *cough* Majik Brownies *cough*   To our LEOs:  Just kidding... please don't kick in my door with the SSD crew! :)

Edit:  Thinking out loud, again:  T-shirt sales?  hnl.flyboy's "early morning BBQ platelunch" sales ('course this might be construed as an illegal concession on C&C land)?  :)

Didn't catch her last name.  She used $5,000 as a random example.  The parks director told her that she was welcome to proceed, but she should realize he had authorized over $700,000 just to handle repairing the roof, moving the gate, and something else menene (maybe getting the water fountain running again?)  She did ask about matching funds, to which he chuckled and shook his head.

^^^Cabato's $700k number is horsepucky.  We've already seen how other items are lumped into the budget with KHSC.

Was just about to say, "If the C&C truly allocated $700K to this project, then $5,000 in donations pales in comparison."

It has been over a month since the meeting.

Does anyone have any updates to this issue?

Thanks!
