This is a great question. I did some research a long time ago and found that most charities are mostly rip offs. So now I only donate regularly to two organizations. Salvation Army gives 82% of donations back and can donate 100% or their reserves directly during emergency relief. The Red Cross gives back around 91% of their donations. Those are the two I give to most often. I give to others but not regularly and not in any significant amounts. But I also regularly give blood and have donated my time to the Red Cross in the past.

Made my donations to IHS www.ihshawaii.org to help the homeless  and Grassroot Institute of Hawaii www.grassrootinstitute.org to lower Hawaii's cost of living and US Vets to help veterans, some of whom I know use their service.  I'll do another for the Salvation Army later.

This year I noticed central Pacific bank did not have a tree with Salvation army Angel tags.
They were just sitting on the counter. So I grabbed a bunch and filled them. My favorite was a plush doll for a 2 yr old girl since my grand daughter is 2 years old and she is so spoiled with stuff I have a soft spot for little kids. The other fav was a Nerf gun for a 10 yr old boy. I HAD to do that one. In fact I bought 2 so he could play with somebody else.

At times market there is a blind bell ringer out front who always gets something from me.
The Kidney foundation is getting my poor old Chevy in few days.

My gun club collects usmc toys for tots in lieu of some match fees so I bought another toy.

My dog will be making a donation to Inspector's Retirement Fund in a few minutes.
It will be generous.

I almost forgot to get my donations in for the year.  Get yours in for your 2020 tax deductions.  It's been an especially hard year for donations and it's your responsibility to support your community if you don't want government to do it.

I’m going with the long play. I’m saving up for an early retirement and planning on making my Shriner and Freemason memberships and volunteer work be my retirement job.

This year I donated to adopt a family type drives that friends’ companies were doing. Supporting both friends and their communities. The tax deductible part not a big concern.

I used to regularly donate clothes and other household items to Kaumakapili church and other places that won’t sell the stuff. My family have been doing that since I was little. Didn’t donate this year yet, but need to get my a$$ in gear and make a drop off.

I have been thinking recently that I am well off enough that I really have more than I need and could stand to donate a bit more so I told myself that if any opportunity to donate to charity came up I would give $5. So when they ask about rounding up at the cash register, or I get the return address labels from St. Jude, etc., I will try to always give at least $5

Today is Hawaii Food bank day.
Previously, I helped with my company food drives.
The shooting sports fair was active in food bank collections.

Now there are no in-person food drives.
So this year I'm donating online. That's about all anyone can do.
