Everyone needs one pistol and one rifle.

I still regret selling my Super Blackhawk .44 Mag before moving here.  It was a magic revolver, accurate as hell and a treat to shoot if you had discipline to not anticipate recoil.

I'd get another, but promised myself to stick to just three calibers of ammo to stockpile.  Four, if you count the wife's .380 and some pissant .25 ACP.

Never was a revolver guy, but I grew to love the single action.  Did not get much of a connection to the Super Redhawk with 2X scope, but it was a beast.  Rather useless due to the size, where the Blackhawk could easily be worn all day in the right environs.

A .22.

at least 1 .22 rifle, and 1 .22 handgun.
good to shoot cheap ammo
and for young or new shooters to start on

Gotta have revolver for me is a .357 Magnum. I love my S&W 627 but I would be happy with a S&W 686 7 Shot with 5" or 6" barrel as well.

Shoots great, and the extra barrel length helps control the muzzle even with the magnum rounds.  Probably the most fun revolver I have. 

Don't let the pictures fool you.  It might look like a canon, but it's not that big once you try it out.  With the option to practice with .38 Special ammo, the cost to shoot is more reasonable, and you can still load it up with .357 magnums whenever you need or want to.

What? Just cuz your barrel is 6" and mine is only 5" doesn't mean I have barrel envy!

Actually my 627 is based on the N Frame so the gun is heavy and full power loads don't feel that bad. I used to have a 686, 6" barrel, 6 shot and I loved it before the ex got it. 

I shoot mostly handloads with 125gr JHP at about 1,050fps. Nice light load that is accurate as all hell. I just happen to know that this particular handload shoots very tight groups out of my friends 686 with a 6" barrel. If you ever want the recipe just let me know.

I had a new 1986 S&W 586 6-shot w/6" barrel.  Sold it when I left OK in 89.  Really wish now I'd kept it.  It's the blued version of the 686.  Adjustable rear sight with white outline and red ramp front sight was standard then, too.
