Just found a slingshot forum.  Just browsing through it, think it's important to wear safety glasses when shooting a SS.

Wonder what kind of snobbery exists with slingshots.   ;D

Spent about 2 hours playing with my slingshots.  I was able to hit a soda can 60% of the time from 20 ft with tbe 6 band sling and then a band broke.  Didn't have any spares and ordered some from Amazon.  12 of them cost only $10.99.

Started playing with the Pocket Shot.  It put a 3/8" ball 2" deep into the trunk of a banana tree and the trunk of a banana is not real soft.  I started shooting a small cardboard box with old carpet for a backstop.  It went through the box and carpet. I know this thing will bury the steel ball in flesh from at least 25 ft.
That's pretty impressive!

How about some tests with clothing?   ;D

I'm kidding.  Well, mostly.  Sort of.  Haha

Pretty sure there's the SS know-it-alls and purists who demand the best, like any other hobby.   Guess makes them feel big compared to the newbies.

that pocket shot looks like it has, uh, "other" uses...

The rubber in the pocket shot has a lifespan. Cannot remember but it does need to be replaced after so many hundred shots.

Yeah, I am sure there are.  ;D

I am admin on another gun board.  The members there have a diverse interest base.  While we discuss many things like knives, cameras, and other stuff non-gun related, it's usually at a surface level.  So the guys mention being members on other boards for the specific interest.  Such as guitars, chainsaws, etc.  You would be surprised at the stories I hear of snobbery and such.  I don't know jack about chainsaws other than I think Stihl is a good brand.  Apparently, if you don't have Husqvarna or another brand, you're an idiot.  Then there are other boards where members chastise newbies for bringing up old threads, even if the new question is relevant and it's not like things are being rehashed.  There's often the "good ole boy" thing going on, which whatever, but to me it's stupid.

While I certainly have my preferences and what I would recommend, I'm always open to other possibilities.  If people are not, that's fine too.  They can go on believing their Ford is better than a Chevy. . .

My dim memory of an old Wham-O slingshot says that is a good idea.

Also, be very careful of what you use for ammo.  I tried some 1/2-5/8" nuts once.  For whatever reason, it did not come out of the sling clean and whacked into the wood frame near the web of my hand.  Smooth ammo seems to rest better in the sling I suppose.

Seems like it contradicts itself.

Anyway, I bought the hammer handle for the pocket shot at Sportsman's Warehouse. Going to see how it helps with accuracy.  I can consistently hit a gallon milk jug with the pocket shot from 20 ft now.
