and........all the reason i'm outta here come june or july. i've lived here all my life and i must say the last 10 years has changed my mind about staying here. rail, homeless situation, taxes, antigun initiatives, traffic, government waste, cost of living, etc. i just can't see my kids having quality of life here, too. we'll soon be at $1 mil. med. priced homes and it'll be on a postage stamp sized lot and 1200 sf house. i'll take my chances elsewhere.
I hear ya.  I've lived here most of my life.  Right now, I don't see myself moving any time soon, but lately, been thinking about it more and more.  While I'm not ready to retire soon, if I found the right setup, I realistically could afford it before too long.  I can totally see what you're saying about the quality of life for your kids.  I don't have kids, but I wonder about stuff like that for my best friends' kids.

Best wishes on your move!  Please keep in touch!   :shaka:

i'm pretty sure that the HI legislators don't realize that HI has its own version of the 2nd Amendment in Article 1, Section 17 of the HI Constitution.  There are some very minor differences, which could affect interpretation, but that's to be decided by the HI Supreme Court.

I'm guessing they are ignoring the Hawaii version because even if they abolished it people could still litigate under the U.S. Constitution, as the Second Amendment has been ruled to apply to the states via the 14th Amendment. Once the Second Amendment is repealed, or gutted via amendment, the Hawaii Constitution will prove no problem to overcome, probably without even bothering to amend or repeal it (as the Hawaii courts and the Ninth Circuit already uphold every form of infringement).

What was the lawsuit where it was decided that the "people" did not encompass the entire populace but just a select subsection of society here in Hawaii when it came specifically to this part of the Hawaiian Constitution? It was maybe 10-15 years ago. Before I got here but I read about it when someone sued about right to carry as per Fed and State Constitution but Hawaii said only certain people are allowed under a safety of others regulation I think.

I'm trying to understand how this concurrent resolution works.
Does the entire senate vote to approve a resolution?
Or is it just 5 people get together and say "here it is".
What, Me Worry?

it gets discussed in committee, and then gets a floor vote if it passes the committee vote

If either gets a committee hearing(s), I think we should submit tons of testimony IN FAVOR, so we can get all these traitors on record. We all know that the Second Amendment is never (in our lifetimes if you're a geezer like me) going to be either amended or repealed, but having a clear record of their traitorous acts could come in useful if my fevered dream of justice ever becomes a reality.

Plus, if there was the momentum to amend it, there's a chance that the amendment would strengthen and clarify the right even further, such as has recently happened with some state constitutions where it was clarified that it is an individual right to self-defense and any legal challenge must be decided using, at minimum, strict scrutiny.

who or what committee? those 5 sponsor people?
Was there a floor vote?
That is what I'm trying to figure out.
When I click on the link to view SCR42 it gives me nothing except the pdf file which doesn't even have any names on it.

For concurrent resolutions, then it moves to the house to repeat the process.  If House and Senate approves it then it's a concurrent resolution (joint).  If the house rejects it, then it's just becomes a Senate resolution.

HAWAII SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS LITERALLY DELETE THE SECOND AMENDMENT AS WE KNOW IT NOW ASSIGNED TO SENATE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE (PSM).

Text of the resolution (SCR42): https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/session2019/bills/SCR42_.htm

Lots of people nationwide have been calling State Senator Stanley Chang’s office to voice their displeasure at this blatant disregard for INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS, now let’s shift the focus to stopping this resolution in its tracks and request to not give it a hearing.

There should be a house version of the resolution but I haven't seen one yet and today's the deadline.  Last year Kaniela Ing introduced it.  Maybe everyone got scared off from the reaction to the senate resolution or they don't have anyone crazy enough to do it.q

(At least) half the politicians in the House are leftist socialist Democrat oath-violating traitors to the constitution... so numbers is not the problem... nor is "crazy"... more likely "strategy". ("We don't want to abolish the Second Amendment, which we fully support, and have taken an oath to uphold and protect, but... we just want a few commonsense gun regulations.")

I suspect the same will happen in the Democrat presidential primaries.... the extra-crazy crazy socialists will trot out their "everything for free" agenda and then the moderate "most things for free" wing will put forward their one "moderately" crazy candidate who will then look (comparatively) like the voice of reason.

I called Nishihara and Wakai. Wakai’s office had to look the resolution up, so I doubt they’ve been getting much heat on it yet.

No House version introduced today, the concurrent resolution deadline.  So it's just the Senate ones.  Very unlikely to see committee.

Just in case, I just sent this to all members of the referred committees, PSM and JDC:

Senator,

Please hold hearings on SR29 and SCR42.

I urge you to hold hearings in the [PSM/JDC] Committee on SR29 and SCR42 as soon as possible.

I believe it is important for all the citizens of Hawaii to be able to have on the public record the votes of all Hawaii legislators who may interpret their oath of office to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States” as “repeal part of the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of the United States”.

Thank you,

Even 2008 when BO won, most states and counties were red, but the liberal run states had the popular and the electoral college too.
What the US would look like if the state population matched the area.

The main problem with this map is that Hawaii should be the same size as Idaho.

Lucky Hawaii is even on there.  I've seen a good amount of US maps that forgot Hawaii.
