That's what I was told as well.  So far, I have a $800 Vortex PST FFP on my Rem 700, which I bought for around $650.  I really wanted a NightForce NXS, but that would've been around $1800.

For a M&P 15/22, I would go for a cheapo red dot or maybe something like a Nikon scope in the $200 max range.  I'll save the Aimpoint Micros and EoTechs for the 5.56/.223 guns.
This.  Burris has a red dot that I'm pretty sure is under $100, and would be plenty for a little 22.  I wouldn't say you need to spend "X times" the amount of the gun when buying a scope; but it's a good rule of thumb to be prepared to spend the same amount on the scope as you did on the rifle, and in some cases, more.  It pains me when someone with a nice, tricked out rifle thinks they're not capable of shooting at mid to long range when it's actually not them or the gun, it's the $150 Tasco that won't click up or return to zero consistently.
I'm just a fluffy white bunny rabbit who lost his way.

I just got a primary arms red dot scope that came yesterday. Thing is pretty good quality for 89 bucks! I havent taken it to the range yet but affixed it on my M&P 15-22 and am really happy with is so far. Came in two days and shipping was only like 12 bucks

That $40 Barska holds zero on my 15-22 like a champ. I have a $200 Vortex Viper II on my PWS MK114. If I ever upgraded it would be in the $1000-2000 range and the Vortex would go on the 15-22. I think the other factor that is often overlooked is the mount. I have Primary Arms AR-15 mounts. It's not the most expensive stuff out there but it does the job and it's all one piece so I don't have to fiddle around lining up 2 rings.

Ive had nothing but poor expiriences at magnum/hnl firearms.  Ive literally seen multiple people with cash in hand turn around and leave the store after the salesmen try and sell them something they didn't come in for.

"I'm interested in glocks, what do you have?"
"Don't get a glock, get a sig instead."
"But I like glocks, everything I've read on them is great.  And it fits my budget.  Your sigs are twice as much."
"So are you saying your life is only worth so much?  Get the sig and be happy."
*turns around and leaves*

My understanding is that Magnum had the contract with HPD, so they didn't have to care about customers or service. They just let the government $$$ roll in.

I can't argue with their Sig logic.  I love sigs.

Art is a shrewed businessman. To him if you cant afford it you cant own it. I have known him for 35 years. He had a different perspective on business and his pa-ke nature was always there.  The things he did would always crack me up. When i was in the automotive business it was a constant battle with him.  When i got into computer repair he needed my services so i saw a different side of him. But he never changed his way of doing business since the "bug" days.  He use to sell VW parts in his garage. He grew up in Nuuanu and was the paperboy for the neighborhood. He did business the same way.

What's their excuse now?

probably cause they didn't have to pay anything for their current inventory.  So they don't care if it sells or not because they have no money invested in it.  I guess as long as they make enough to pay the rent and insurance, that's good enough for them.  Their employee overhead is probably cheap too cause their employees are probably volunteers or getting paid minimum wage...which is why they don't know shit

I got an Nightforce 3.5-15x50 on my REM 700 308 a rifle that Eric at ogc put together for me . I must say looking thru it and watching my heads land 1500 yards away . Mighty nice . As an old timer once told me "you only can hit what you can see " :shaka:

Eh! No be so hard on those guys! I'd rather have them there than not at all. I just think of them as a live stroll through a firearms catalog. I browse their over priced stock while i'm in town to reassure myself that that's the product i'm looking for and the go to the other LGS to pick it up.
