Hnl firearms/magnum
« on: January 09, 2013, 11:18:04 AM »
Poor customer service, called to get price check n see what optics they have in stock, they said thy cant give that info over the phone. Seriously, I'm coming all the way from the west side, and if I come to town and if they don't have what I need......Someone is gonna get cracks. They can't even give an inventory check over the phone for a fuckin optic.

Honolulu, nee Magnum, Firearms has a reputation for angry customers and lost business.

Does HNL firearms have an optic the other gun stores don't?

I'm sure all the other LGS would be happy to make your trip from the west side worth it.

I've said before and I'll say it again: Honolulu Firearms is full of assholes.

Take your business to SEC, OGC, or The Gun Source.

X-Ring is in Waipahu...Much less of a drive.  Brian or Dex would be able to tell you if they have what you need in stock and maybe see how much it would be to order.

I went to Magnum once and never went back. I didn't have a bad experience but they're way overpriced. Based on what I been hearing recently, the new guys there dunno wtf they doing. That's probably the reason they can't give you an inventory check on the phone, can't tell the difference between a red dot, scope, illuminated retic scope, etc.

In my experience with all the other stores, if they don't have it in stock they can probably order it for you. If their distributors or other channels of supply don't have it available, then they can usually direct you someone else who can get it. Call any other store and see what they can do for you. Maybe X-Ring like flyboy said so you don't have to drive so far.

I usually go there for the indoor range since it's the only place ATM practice engaging a target at X<15 yards.  Guys in the front are pretty chill IMO.

the first time I went in HNL firearms after the new ownership and they were cool prices seemed to go down a little,  but I went in again last month and it felt like magnum was still running it.

Well many great shops like ogc are out of stock on the cheaper optics, don't feel like spending over a g on a trijicon which they do have in stock, plus I'd kick myself in da ass if I pay more for the optic than what my gun is worth  :D

The only credit I will give that shop is that they have good inventory and a indoor range but I heard you have to buy their expensive ammo

How much is ammo and what's the furthest distance you can shoot there

One thing I was told before was to expect to spend 2-4 times the amount of the rifle on some quality glass

Holy cow. I picked up a $500 M&P 15-22, putting a $2,000 scope on it seems like way too much (I use a $40 plinker scope). Also, on a $3,000 SCAR expect to spend $6,000-12,000? Hot damn. To each his own but I can't justify spending that kinda cash on punching holes in paper at Kokohead.

The person told me that in reference to putting really nice glass ($3000 Leupold, Nightforce, Horus, etc.) on a $1000 bolt action (Remington 700, Savage 10, etc.)

For an M&P .22, I'd probably go with an Aimpont T-1 whenever I could afford it.

for real right?

im flinching just looking at a 350 dollar red dot optic im planning on in the future.  i cant imagine dropping a grand on an aimpoint just to have a good red dot, let alone say, 1500 on a nice leupold or nightforce scope.

That's what I was told as well.  So far, I have a $800 Vortex PST FFP on my Rem 700, which I bought for around $650.  I really wanted a NightForce NXS, but that would've been around $1800.

For a M&P 15/22, I would go for a cheapo red dot or maybe something like a Nikon scope in the $200 max range.  I'll save the Aimpoint Micros and EoTechs for the 5.56/.223 guns.
