Another K-9 was killed in the Line of Duty, died with his teeth locked on the BG that shot him
Sorry no link, from the Officer's Dad.
"My youngest son is a K-9 LEO in Jacksonville, Fla. and his dog was killed tonight in the line of duty. Some shit bag held up a store and ran. The air unit found him and called K-9, my son, his sergeant & another K-9 handler were there, when they found the guy he was hiding in the bushes, the dog went in and bit the guy and pulled him out but the guy had a gun and shot the dog in the head. The other handler and his sergeant both fired and killed the guy, (my son thinks they both emptied their .40 Glock’s!) my son did not have the angle to shoot, but wished that he had.
His dog still had hold of the guy but was quivering, they got him off the guy and found the wound in his head and he died in his lap. The dog did exactly what he was trained to do, protect his handler and saved my sons life, a few more steps and he would have been the target and possibly would have been killed also.
As expected he is devastated, he was just commenting on how excited his dog was tonight when he got him out of the kennel, happy to go to work and running around the yard. He also realized how close he came to being shot as well. The hardest part will be the funeral, they treat the dog as a full police officer with all honors, that will be VERY hard on my son.
My son has been on the force for 14 years and a handler for 4 years and fully bonded with the dog. He was trained as a patrol, drug and bomb dog and will be hard to replace.
Please send prayers for all our LEO’s, they do one hell of a job for us with little compensation and even less respect from the public. '
