Am I supposed to carry around my firearms registration papers whenever I take my weapons to the range, for service, etc?  I have been just in case I get stopped for some reason and the cops ask me if the weapon is registered to me.  I would rather not if I don't need to, just in case I lose them or something.

Thanks for any help.

As far as I know, there is nothing in Hawaii's laws that say you have to carry your registration paper with you.

I never do.
Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Do you want to be the next identity theft victim? Do not, and I would repeat, do not carry around your registration papers.

There is no benefit, at all, what so ever, to doing so; but, there are, however, many, many reasons why you would NOT want to.

When I registered my guns, I asked the woman who was handling the registration the same thing she said I should carry a copy of them with the gun, but to black out the SSN. So I just keep a copy tucked away under the foam liner of my gun cases that has the SSN blacked out from both sides with sharpie.

Perhaps oahu registration papers are different but the ones I have from  the Kona PD basically just have my name and address on there.. so not too worried about someone getting that. If someone has the paper they have my gun too!

Is there any effort to get the registration and permitting systems unified across all of the counties? I believe the HRS stipulates that the AG oversee a unified system, but every county seems to have its own setup.

We always carry a copy of what ever firearms we are taking . Just the copies with curtain things blacked out . Not the permit to acquire .
Fast is fine , accuracy is final

HDF had requested this from the Attorney general but it fell on deaf ears.

For most of you "blacking it out"  I bet that I can still recover the information from your form, especially if it's real registration and not a copy.    With just your name and area, I can get your full social security number, date of birth, and so forth. The WHOLE form is dangerous.

The biggest question is, Why?  Why have it with you?  What's the purpose or point?

No.

Of course they can.  It may not mean they'll be able to keep it, but seriously what are you going to do?  It's not the time and place to get into it with the police if they try that.

I was told that Magnum's required you to have your registration with you to shoot it at their range so I brought mine when I went (to Hono Firearms). They never asked

Even if you had the regis with you they could still confiscate your stuff if they wanted too. Who's to say you are telling the truth about going to the range, gun shop, or place of sojourn?   It's vague like that.

Ihre papiere, bitte.

I do believe that the radical and crazy notion that the Founders meant what they said, is gradually soaking through the judicial system.

After the fact maybe, but you understand my point.  Get the wrong guy and the discussion is going to turn into a cussing match (probably on their side) and the next thing you know you're going to have knees on the back of your head, neck, & back.

I'd also like to point out that Hawaii has some of the strongest 4th amendment laws in the country.  So it probably depends.  Unless you had the guns in the same area / compartment, I don't even know how they would know :).
