my day at the range
« on: January 02, 2011, 05:37:39 PM »

Started by not heeding the, eyes n ears!!  to rush and open the chambers of my buddy guns that left them closed on a just opened hot line...  him cowering around the corner,  me taking a concussion from a compensated .50 bmg a table away 3-4'.... :shake:

Swapping targets and taking a staple going through the cardboard to the left pointer finger... ouch!!!

The .50 going off with naked ears wasnt nearly as bad as I thought (had read about it being) it would be,  no real prolonged ringing in the ears...  just the immediate shock and awe of the concussion rattling your brain.  just have slight muffle in the right ear which I hope subsides and probably some slight permanent damage to it   Really surprises me that I was not bleeding from the ear considering the rest of the day even with a plug/muff combo the shock was outrageous when you are 3-4' away at the 8-9oclock position.

lesson's learned....  eyes n ears as soon as the shooters safety meeting is over (im going plugs as soon as I drive up).....  keep ur damn hand away from the damn staple gun..... :shaka:

Was this as Kokohead?  .50 BMG is prohibited there.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Ukumehame.

The usual guy with the .50 bmg and another with a .416 barrett.

Why is the .50 bmg not allowed at kokohead?

Eyes and ears are the first thing that goes on prior to me leaving the car.

There was an incident some time ago where a .50 projectile ricocheted and landed in one of the neighboring houses. Luckily no one was hurt, to my knowledge. Though since then, .50 BMG is not allowed.

Man,  how close are those houses?  Did the homeowners know about it immediately?

on a side note,  just started watching Restrepo....  intense, only minutes into it.  good watch.

The story as was told to me:

The US Air Force did it.  Shot OVER KokoHead in to the home Behind the hill

Put rounds in the home of  the then Hawaii Bicycling League President.

Did not apologize or offer to repair damages.   Told him to file a claim with the Air Force.

That's the story I heard.  FWIW

Sooo, of course you know who gets the shaft?

Heard they were shooting armor piercing rounds which ricocheted off the metal targets. That's what I heard anyway. Forgot who I heard that from.
