Could anybody tell me why Hawaii has such a draconian gun laws?

Was it always been like this or were there incidents that lead to this.
‘‘I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials.’’
‘‘To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.’’
-George Mason

That's a good question and I'd be interested in knowing that as well.

On a side note, I've always wondered what draconian meant but was too lazy to look it up until now.

Quote
Dra⋅co⋅ni⋅an [drey-koh-nee-uhn, druh-]
–adjective
1.   of, pertaining to, or characteristic of Draco or his code of laws.
2.   (often lowercase) rigorous; unusually severe or cruel: Draconian forms of punishment.

Dra·co (drā'kō)
Athenian politician who codified the laws of Athens (c. 621). Lauded for its impartiality, his code was unpopular for its severity.
I am not a lawyer.
