FN Tactical 45
« on: August 12, 2013, 04:40:31 PM »
I purchased a FN 45 Tactical and have been anxiously waiting to run it through its paces.

The FN pistols tend to be on the large side but feel very solid and sturdy in your hands.

This Tactical 45 has a standard DA/SA (double action, single action) trigger.

The double action is long but smooth with a crisp break. The single action is extremely crisp after some pre-travel.

This pistol holds 15 rounds of potent 45acp in America (10 rounds in communist states)

I've installed a TLR-1s and Trijicon RMR (RM02).

The pistol comes with a blackened stainless steel threaded barrel, standard.

Can I please have a suppressor?

The Trijicon night sights on this pistol come standard. They're tall sights designed to co-exist with suppressors.

The slide comes precut for a variety of mini red dots.

The grip has aggressive stippling and 4 different back straps.

3 magazines are standard as is a very nice coyote colored case.

Ambidextrous magazine release and slide stop levers are standard.

Speaking of the safety. Not only is it a ambi safety and decocker, but you also have the ability to carry "cocked and locked" or safety on, hammer down.

Shooting:

Went through 100 rounds of Winchester white box, 230gr FMJ ammo.
The pistol functioned flawlessly.
Zero malfunctions whatsoever.

Accuracy was excellent and most groups at 30 feet were one ragged hole.

I have owned and continue to own many different full size 45's and can say that without this is the most manageable 45 I have ever shot.

I'm very impressed with it.

Edit:

Round 2 of shooting, went through three boxes of federal 230 gr Hi-shok JHP.

Accuracy was excellent.

Posted a pic of the target. (5 groups, 5 shots each, 30 feet distance)

Good down and dirty review, KK. Me being a smaller built male, the grip feels big and blocky but a really easy gun to shoot.

FN 45 tactical has a cutout in slide for red dot sight installation.
FN 45 tactical has higher capacity magazines

As far as I know, the only tactical one with threaded barrel and slide cutout for red dot is the 45 caliber one.

FN makes many pistols in 9mm,40S&W & 45acp

Yeah far as I researched I've only found the tactical in .45 acp
Makes sense to be only in that caliber since most "offensive" designed pistols like the h&k mark 23 are in .45

I was messing with a Sig at the store last week and I've been comparing it with my FNX Tactical. I am slowly starting to hate the grip on this gun.

wtf?shane let us shoot his FNX45 at the fun shoot
using the red dot is like cheating, but super fun
for some reason, dirtystinkin couldn't hit anything with it, though
probably because it didn't say GLOCK on the side of the gun

grip is like a porcupine, though

Great review kk. Killer grouping too
