AZ Congresswoman shot in the head
« on: January 08, 2011, 11:32:25 AM »
It's all over the major news channels. AZ Congresswoman was shot in the head while doing a local meeting/rally at a Safeway in her district. A Federal judge and a 9 year old girl have died in the shooting but death toll is still uncertain since many others are in ICU.

Ironically, this Congresswoman supports gun rights, is a gun owner and is married to a military man. So sad to see how far the whole political divide has driven some people to commit such acts.

Bad news, for sure.  Prayers for those involved.

IMO divides caused by the lefts constant class/race/status political warfare tactics.

I'm curious how the left will portray the shooter...considering everything so far known about him point towards the shooter being a leftist extremist.

Horrible day for sure, my thoughts go out for the victims and their families..  Imagine standing in that crowd, completely unarmed and at the mercy of some wingnut who has decided to take out as many people as possible before being physically stopped.. Gives a lot more creedence to law abiding folks to be able to arm themselves for just this type of unforeseen tragedy where the only thing that can stop the carnage is the suspect runs out of ammo, or someone stops him with return fire.. Just another incident that shows us the police cannot be everywhere all the time, especially when lives are actively being taken..

This is definitely one of those stories that will be used by both sides of the concealed carry movement. I'm going to bet that the media will spin it saying that since this took place in Arizona, where they just passed "Constitiutional Carry" and there has been a relatively long history of armed citizens, both concealed carry and open carry, that this instance proves that armed citizens do not prevent or lessen the deaths/injuries in active shooter situations.

just read that the criminal bought the gun from Sportsmans Warehouse. To me it doesn't matter who sold it to him, what matters is that theguy committed a murder.

Bra, as soon as the smoke cleared looks like the left was blaming the whole thing on Palin, Rush, and the like. No suprized that the left is continuing it's attacks and trying to pull political shinanagins. They are the one turning this tragic event into some kind of left vs. right BS.

Funny how these types of attacks(shooting, bombings) are happening now that the right is in power.  This proves the point the the left is where all the freaking wakkos reside, not the right. They will twist the story every which way to make it look like something it's not, sad part about it is that the only way for us to find out the truth is to investigate on our own to find the answers.
Freaking media is too damn biased to report the truth, in any case!

Sad for sure... This kinda thing is always unfortunate. It's hard when a gun law is passed, it will only affect "citizens" that don't break laws.....go figure.. :-\

The Wife asked why there was nobody with a firearm who could have shot the shooter when he opened fire?

Explained to her that altho Arizona has Constitutional Carry, not everyone carries.  Only a very Small % will carry.

I saw an article many years ago that stated that less than 4% of the legal gun owning population of any one state will will get a CCW permit.

Since then, I have Not seen anything more on How Many legal gun owners in any given state will apply and get a CCW permit.

If there haas been and anyone knows of it, please post.

interesting OG..  was under the impression that states like Texas had really high CCW rates.  I met a guy while waiting at HPD for my permit who moved here from Texas.  While talking, he casually mentioned that "everyone carries there"....I don't really know how much % he was referring to however since we were talking about something else.

I believe it is actually a smaller percentage than that. I will work on some general numbers.

Alright , for Texas, less then 1.63% of the population has a permit to carry.

Factors based on 24,782,302  - Jul 2009 population and 2009 Active Permit Holders @ 402,914.
