i know the muffin man! (aka hra/life funshoot 8/25/13)

so despite my best efforts, i was "that guy"
i accidentally left to go to my car with my pistol still holstered (no mag though)
and i had failures to eject with my shotgun and cheap birdshot
so the newbie screwed up twice
otherwise, it was hot, hot, hot, but a lot of fun
setup from 9-9:45
9:45 safety brief
a couple hours of handgun standing, two hand, strong hand only, weak hand only
lying down handgun left/right plus sitting
shotgun reloading drills and shooting on the move
then mostly everyone just shooting on their own
trying out guns, gear, and techniques
done around 3 and then 45 min of cleanup

i knew tomg from hanabatas on river street
and met the muffin man (great muffins, dude)
MM also had a neat foot pump sink setup so people can wash their hands (forgot to take a picture)

was tired and dehydrated and useless for the rest of the night
looking forward to an even more intense day on saturday

Sounds like a good time.  I wanted to attend the Fun Shoot, but instead I was out in ewa hitting and chasing golf balls all over the place.  It was my friend's birthday, so I "had" to.

Doesn't sound to me that you were "that guy".  The going to the car with your sidearm holstered is a no-no, but an honest mistake.  The shotgun malfunctions is part of the learning process and I don't think that's a screw-up.  In a class setting where you are paying for the instructor to teach in a group environment and you take up a LOT of time trying to figure out your gear, yeah, you are that guy.  In my experience, the "that guys" I've encountered usually don't realize that they are "that guy" in that they are too clueless to realize that they are holding up everything for them.

Yeah, you have to take LOTS of fluids.  I usually have two large Vitamin waters and a 2 liter bottle of water in a cooler and usually drink one of them.  It may be worse with HDF in that there's not the big tent set up for shade for everyone.  Some people bring their own tents and while they do share, you're out in the sun most of the time.

Yeah, muffinmans muffins and hand washing station are awesome.

Just a note on the strong hand and SUPPORT hand shooting.  That's one thing that I think I really could use time on, shooting with my support side.  Good to hear that the session on Sunday included that.  Shooting and particularly reloads and malfunction clearances are usually very different on most guns that typically have controls only on one side.  The manipulations are usually very different from the support side.

kept on wondering which guy was drck1000

the thing that threw me off worse was shooting 2 handed using the weak hand as the trigger finger and supporting with the strong hand
i could not even figure out how to hold
i think i would've been better off shooting weak hand only

If I had gone, I would've looked for you. Next time.

I would suggest that you adopt the mindset that you are shooting support hand. If you continue to train, your weaknesses can become strengths. It's a difference in wording, but mindset really does matter.
