Proper mounting of scope on AR
« on: August 28, 2013, 06:17:48 AM »
I never had to mount a school using a riser before.  Initially, I mounted my scope and it was zeroed in but too low for comfortable shooting. I bought a riser remounted the scope and it was aiming low and left at 50 yds. I used the adjustments on the scope and maxed it out but was still about 1 foot low. I didn't even bother to do left-right adjustments and promptly put the gun away.  What do I need to do to fix it?  Am I over torquing it?  Do I just try to remount  it? I don't know if there is already a thread on this subject but if there is,  point me in the right direction.  Mahalo.

There's different risers. (1/2",3/4",1")

Maybe you need a different riser.

What brand and type of riser did you get?

Forget the risers, just get one of those one piece scope  like the armalite or b-square type, that way no need worry about the risers..good luck

I got one of those cheapo off brand  ones from Amazon.  Didn't think of buying quality since I was going to use it for hunting and abusing it.  It was comfortable to look thru but it ain't worth a sh!t if I can't hit the target.  I'd feel really bad if I  took it to X-ring since I have never shopped there before because it's far from where I live. Very generous  of you to offer and that speaks volumes.  My cousin has a bore sighter  and maybe he can help me.   If not I just may take a drive to Waipahu. Speed tek, I  do see you sometimes at the range  the few times I have gone,  next time I'll  introduce myself.

It's no problem. But I rather have it done correctly than have someone struggle with it.
Especially if the mount is off.  At the shop I have all kinds of solutions available.

I have no qualms with cheap mounts. It's how you use it.
Guys bring stuff in all the time with good mounts. And things

Or take it down to X-Ring and buy from them a decent one piece scope mount.
That way you can show them a little appreciation for their generous offer.
You will also get it done correctly and with proper parts.
Win - Win.

I was actually going to see if they could do a trigger job on my AR  and buy some 10/22  magazines.
