Sporting clays in Oahu
« on: August 31, 2013, 06:23:10 PM »
Hello everyone,
I just moved here from California 2 months ago and I finally got my guns out here and registered. I heard of koko head but I am trying to find a place that has sporting clays or some place that I can take my own thrower. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Kokohead has trap & skeet.they are run by the clubs.skeet sat-sun and trap only on sun.unless you know someone with private land that can shoot on theres no place to use your own thrower

The trap club occasionally sets up a 5-stand course.  Not the same as sporting lays, but in the right direction.

Lanai Pines is the only place I know that has a legit sporting clays course.
No one is coming, it’s up to us.

I got all excited until I realized its not on Oahu. I think I am going to go try the trap range at koko head.

My daughter and I want to try shooting clays.
Skeet/trap no matter.

Are the folks in the clubs pretty cool about newbies showing up and showing us the ropes?

We both both have cheap (Stoeger Condor) O/U shotguns.

Yeah, the shooters at both clubs are quite welcoming.

If you are military, DOD, or their dependent or retiree, or be sponsored by a member...Schofield Rod & Gun club has a skeet & trap range on the Army base (central part of Oahu).  They shoot on the weekends and Wednesday nights.  http://www.srgchi.org.  You have to signup for membership at their monthly meetings.

Also if you want to meet new shooters here and see what kind of shooting you can do here, join my meetup group at www.meetup.com/HawaiiGGG

You should have come out to SSF.  The Koko Head Skeet Club (at least I believe it was them) have a skeet station where you can shoot clays on the skeet range.  I too have always wanted to try, but have been intimidated to get started.  That said, I know either the director or one of the senior guys in Koko Head Skeet Club and he's SUPER nice.  He's always asking when I'll shoot with them there or at Schofield Rod and Gun Club.  One day I will.  I really enjoy shooting clays.  Something about the flying target and the immediate feedback.  I'm ok with the jeering for misses as well.   ;D

You already have the equipment.  I don't even own a shotgun.   :(  Though I would someday love to have a nice O/U.

I haven't shot skeet/trap for a long time, but after shooting 8 shells at the shooting sports fair this weekend now I want to get an O/U and do it again.

There was a perception, at one time, that the Skeet and Trap folks were rather unwelcoming and standoffish....that has not been my experience. As Tom said, they are pretty nice folks that seem happy to see new folks and show them the ropes. They have even been know to loan a newbie one of their guns to shoot a round or two...

I'm a little surprised someone like Kualoa Ranch hasn't taken advantage of this and set up a sporting clay range. I know they have other shooting events on their land.

well now that's a great suggestion. Although at one time they did have a shooting range of sorts but I herd it is no longer I guess liability and the inability to control hikers perhaps or something like that. Idk I'm just babbling it's late. Lol

First time I went they treated me pretty nicely, even though I showed up with an 18" 870.
