Cool!  Remember to bring your current SRGC membership card.  The OIC & RSO's have been instructed to be strict on that.

Yes, you have to be a member of the Schofield Rod & Gun Club.  If you are active or retired military or a DoD civilian employee (there may be others eligible for membership, but those are the ones that I remember off the top of my head), then you are eligible to join up right away.  If not, there may be a waiting list to be an associate member.  If you aren't already an associate member for this year (membership renewal is in July) then you probably will have to attend as a guest.

Oh yeah, a RSO told me last week that we can no longer use anything under the tower such as the sand bags (someone made holes in them). Also no rapid fire but he said he's not sure how long that rule will last. We also was warned that the road going directly to the bowling pin shed is for emergency use only. We have to go around on the paved road to get to it.

If rapid fired is banned there would be no reason to go to this range anymore.

Cool.  I think Sean was busy and didn't get out the email until late.  I'm on the RSO list, so we'll get the schedule first but it's not confirmed until the OIC and RSOs confirm.  Occasionally a range will come available at the last minute as well.

Hmm.  I haven't heard of any changes, but I'll find out Saturday morning.  I heard that Range Control recently either changed leadership or changed a key position, but they have been changing all sort of things recently. 

There are plenty of reasons to use the SRGC range.  Drawing from holster (at the discretion of the RSOs), ability to put out reactive targets, load up more than 5 (or 10) rounds if you want to do so.  I never really did rapid fire at the range, but I've seen many who do, usually with HUGE smiles on their faces.  It's actually pretty entertaining to watch, as long as they are being safe. 

Seems like September has a few SRGC range days on the schedule.  We should take advantage since it seems it can be feast or famine.

While it's good that they are allowing steel targets, that's a hike!  Last time I was RSO on CR2, Range Control limited target placement to 50 yards. 

Sure there are other things besides rapid fire but that is where the real freedom is. I go there to train myself for the real world. I want to make sure I have control for the follow up shot. I'm not going to tell the criminal wait 3 seconds before I can take another shot. It's a big difference in control and follow up shot from a 9mm to a 357, .40, .45, or whatever large caliber handguns that most people use from home defense. Loading full clips is nice but in the real world you are probably not going to shoot 30 rounds unless you plan on doing a massacre or defending Hawaii from China or North Korea. I believe it's up to 4 shots that most people take. Shooting reactive targets is really nice but for me I factor in everything such as no covered shade, dirty, no chairs, must pickup every ammo and have a count, no bathroom or water close by, no drink vending machines, etc. It's like going camping where I have to provide everything. They also said not watermelons or other messy targets. What happened to the good old days that I heard so much about which is why I just recently joined? So if I go down there it must be worth my time and effort compared to Kokohead. Not to mention that I have to pay membership fees and do community service. We are slowing loosing our freedom.

Yeah.  Believe me, I hear you.  I shoot, or used to shoot, with the defensive shooting group and there was some very good experience gained with that group.  However, what we were allowed to do during those sessions have been severely restricted by an overbearing Range Control.  Trust me, I get what you're saying about the real world and we don't have the best ranges here in Honolulu.  Compared to what I've seen in Alaska, Nevada and Arizona, what we have is very minimal, but my point was it is what you make of it. 

I will have to wait and see what the new rules are regarding rapid fire, but I would think that 2-6 or so controlled shots would be acceptable.  I honestly just don't get those who want to do mag dumps, but if they do safely, right on.  If Range Control has put a slow fire rule in place, that's pretty messed up.

The list is from the Range Facility Management Support System. The range was scheduled, but may not get used if you can't nail down a OIC/RSO to run it or if a unit bumps the SRGC.
