Gotta definetly do your cardio.. Cause when you reload or run out of ammo, you gotta be in shape to scale walls and climb tree's..oh yeah and fight other people that do cardio so they can't take your Manapua, Pork Hash and Rice Cake.... ;)

All you boat thieves:  take me with you!  I've got plenty of open-ocean navigation experience, and I figure we can make for Prudhoe Bay or somewhere thereabouts in Alaska/Canada where it's frozen for ten or eleven months a year.  That way the zombie hoarde will never get to us, or if they do, we'll only have a month or two of zombie fighting out of the year.  Keep it on the DL, though, or we'll find that our arctic paradise is overrun with numbskulls, who probably brought the virus with them.  We can hole up there during the summer months, and when the winter freeze comes to the lower 48, we'll go on re-supply expeditions to overrun military bases looking for replacement gear and MRE's.  Piece of cake, and once we shove off from Oahu, we'll probably never have to shoot another zombie again, just knock the heads off frozen ones!

As far as weapons go, I'd take the shotty, because I want to cause serious zombie face trauma, while shooting on the move, and I don't care about long-range engagement.  Plus weight of ammo isn't really a concern, since once I make it to the marina, I'm golden.

Zombie polar bears would be quite fearsome in warmer climes, but it's a well-known fact of zombie physiology that the processes by which warm-blooded creatures keep themselves thawed out in sub-freezing temperatures stop at the death of the person/animal, and do not resume upon reanimation.  We would perhaps have to deal with them during the month or two of thaw, but I doubt the infection will make it that far north, since the population density is exceedingly low, probably something like several hundred square miles of wilderness for each person.

Depending on which thought of zombie you come from the outbreak could be due to an air borne form of the zombie causing mutagen.  The balance through the physical exchange of bodily fluids, blood and saliva being the two most prevalent shown in movies/TV.

I do like the idea of a floating moving base, however just because we have not seen it, it does not rule out the potential that zombies can swim or can walk along the bottom of the ocean and climb up anchor lines (although I do think it's difficult to believe a zombie can climb).

Zombie polar bears IMHO are much scarier than a zombie elephant in that they are more mobile.  In the end zombie fly would probably be the most fearsome of all.

We don't watch enough.  In not one single instance have I seen a zombie fly, zombie mosquito...........and only in Caveman have I seen a very large fly-ish/mosquito-ish type insect (not counting The Fly, The Fly, and The Fly II).

Nobody said Machete? That seems like an obvious item because it doesn't make the kind of noise that would attract the shambling hoards from blocks away. A whaling machete is designed for chopping up whales all day. There's an importer in town who sells the ones made with spring steel which is strong and easy to maintain. Other than that I'd have a 12ga and a good flashlight. And a sailboat loaded with supplies, a couple good surfboards and books to stay occupied until everything settles down a bit.

Oh yes and on the sailboat I'd also like a bikini model who doesn't mind cleaning fish, reloading, and giving deep tissue massages.

My AK, my Colt AR  WITH .22lr conversion, glock 30 and a good old fashioned razor sharp machete.

Have you guys seen my "family" pics in the Gun Pic thread?  I have a Voodoo Tactical LRP pack and an Eberlestock Gunslinger 2 along with a Blackhawk Long Gun Drag bag/shooting mat for transport of my gear.  I also have an Alaskan Malamute as a roommate, but truthfully she wouldn't be terribly useful during an Apocalyptic event.

As for the proponents of .22 ammo, I would highlt recommend that it be "Hyper-Velocity" stuff since the frangables aren't available in Hawaii.  The standard stuff probably won't be effective even if trippled up.  Wound cavitation with some high speed stuff is the only viable factor the smaller the projectile (caliber as well as mass) IMHO.  .41 slug ammo is the only shotgun ammo I have and it falls into the same rationalle as the .22 to some degree.  It's the only shot gun I have and it's smaller and lighter than any 12 ga, though admittedly it doesn't cycle very fast being a single shot breech loader.

My current preparedness has some flaws and limitations, but that's what this is all about right?  Continually evolving your plan and progressively eliminating the flaws and weaknesses to match current projections until true preparednedd is achieved, right?

Old topic, I know...

But did anyone catch the Center for Disease Control Zombie preparedness stuff a while back?

http://blogs.cdc.gov/publichealthmatters/2011/05/preparedness-101-zombie-apocalypse/

Funny stuff used to deliver a serious message.

What isn't so funny is that I know some of the people (and the science) behind WHY they are pushing basic preparedness. Every earth science (meteorology, geology, oceanography) is pointing towards more regular and more severe natural disasters - at a time with federal, state and country agencies tasked with responding to them are facing budget shortfalls.  We may not be on the brink of a zombie apocalypse but the scientists themselves are starting to use it as a device to warn people that it is very possible that your survival might be in your own hands for a significant period of time.
