What would you have for a zombie invasion?
« on: November 05, 2009, 11:03:33 AM »
As we all know, zombies haven't come. YET.  ::)

Just as a fun hypothetical, if you were given a month to prepare for the zombie invasion, what would you get to protect yourself and to survive?

A month?

I'd move into a good old school building, something made with solid concrete walls, steel gates, and an enclosed courtyard.  Something with a basement would be nice, but basements aren't all that popular here.

I'd fill million-gallon cisterns with water, and buy semi-loads of canned goods.  Fill a few thousand-gallon propane tanks.

Loads of batteries hooked to photovoltaic panels on the roof.  Buy every shortwave radio that Radio Shack had in stock.

Buy every piece of ammunition and every scrap of reloading components that I could find at any price.  Likewise steal every gun (running out of credit card capacity by now) and every gun part that I could.

Seeds and a few truckloads of fertilizer for the courtyard... fresh produce will be a treat after months of canned food.

Kevlar bodysuits, as many as I can find.  30 pairs of comfortable boots.

Oh, and a tank.  I think I could manage to have a WWII tank shipped over within a month.  The guns wouldn't be functional, but if I end up needing to get out of my fortress, no mere crowd of ten thusand zombies is going to inconvenience me!

The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Id go look for Tom and ask him if he needed a hand wit his Fort.  My selling point would be my weapons list, ammunition stockpile, reloading equipment and components, and my willingness to secure the breath of every zombie that threatens our position.  LOL  ;D

Yeah I'd probably just be staying at Tom's fortress.

I wouldn't mind one of these AA12 auto-shotguns with several drum mags.

So, what I really want to know is...

am I the only person here who looks at every place he visits with an eye towards zombie defense?

I have to work on my tactical awareness...

...but I try to stay out of the bathrooms. The most dangerous thing you can do with zombies around  :P

Oh Boy oh Boy !! this probably the best thread ever!!!  Now I'm actually debating whether I should even give you guys this sensitive, zombie survival info.... but I will since 90 percent of us would go zombie anyways. Yea I know, as much as you think you'd make it past the opening week, you wouldn't. But for the true zombie survivor, here's the business.

Guns - Ruger 10/22...nuff sed . Must I explain, if so you can count yourself a zombie.

Weapons - Be creative cuz you reallllllly gotta be good to kill a zombie hand to hand, just don't get any brain juice on you.

Location - Anyplace not street level with good lines of sight and "roomy" fields of fire. (yes, I really did use "roomy" and FOF in the same sentence)

Partners - one, two, a few, a dog would be great, but large numbers make large targets, and all alone makes you give up.

Supplies - Well this is what would drive most people to zombiehood. These island cities are unsustainable, hunting would be difficult to impossible, yet sailboats would make fishing manageable, roof top gardens for some fruits and vegetables, but most stores would be empty or difficult to access with most foods spoiling. The one advantage of all this is we have an island and once the majority of the zombies in the cities have been culled, the country areas can be patrolled and eradicated, and farming and ranching can begin. Water of course is not a huge dilemma like in the mainland.

Equipment - Hmmm, things to make fire and bombs with, don't need radio's cuz who ya gonna talk to, and the TV is off air so we don't need generators, and the internet is down so bye bye computer, but good thing zombies are stupid, cuz who else is gonna trip a perimeter alarm made from dog leashes and laundry baskets.

Vehicles - Thank god for all those lifted 4x4's.

Well folks if I left anything out its probably because I'm just one of the crowd... zombie that is.....

oh yes one more thing... Kevlar bodysuit = bulletproof zombie....  :shaka:

This topic was addressed somewhere before though I don't remember exactly... I would think that rotting zombie carcass would be quite the opposite of nutritional...:shaka:

Really?  A semi-auto .22?  General zombie lore holds that to de-animate a zombie (assuming it's even possible) requires massive trauma to the brain.  Removing it is preferable. Unless we're talking about George Romero zombies, in which case, all you can really hope for is to immobilize them.  In either case, a .22 would be pretty low on my list of preferred tools.

So it sounds like we need really large calibers.
.500 S&W Magnum Revolver,
.50 Beowulf Short Barreled AR
000 Buckshot or Slugs in a sawed off shotgun.

What!!  How dare you challenge the zombie zen master, hmmpf!!  j/k.....  Ok folks here's the break down on the 10/22, but first a question. How much ammo for that 50 beowulf AR do you expect to carry?? plus ammo for your 500 s&w, plus ammo for your 12g, plus your bugout kit, plus kevlar bodysuit, plus.... you get my drift so I'll answer the question about the .22.

Why a .22? Because I can easily and comfortably carry 5,000 to 6,000 rounds plus my other gear and be quite mobile and light on foot. 5,000 to 6,000 rounds can kill quite a few zombies even if I have to double or triple up. Furthermore, detachable 100 and 200 round drums and 50 clips make the 10/22 quite powerful but not heavy and hard to handle. Trust me, in zombie land your gonna be running and gunning, and I wouldn't want heavy guns weighing me down.

Not to mention most homes that have guns, have .22s and hence, .22 ammo.

Now, in other related news sales of the Ruger 10/22 have tripled since yesterday!!! :shaka:

Nah, bigger is better.

A half inch is too small. I'm thinking .577 T-rex

...or .700 Nitro Express

Those both look like they'd make for some good times :shaka:

I stand by the shotgun.  Though bulkier, shotgun ammunition would be just as available as .22.  Also shotguns have the distinct advantage of a spread of damage with each shot.  So one shotgun shell could incapacitate a handful of zombies.  Finally, with the intention of running and gunning, you don't need to be accurate with a shotgun, you just have to shoot in their general direction.   ;D

I guess with a shotgun, you could just head down to Sports Authority and make a fort in their long gun section :)
