so far i've learned that metal is HEAVY, but is the only way to get protection from rifle velocities
and that there was some materials used in the past that were banned because they were ineffective

and where are people buying their gear?

KonaJon

Www.blacktydetactical.com has plate carriers and hard plates level 3 front/back rhino lined for around $220 plus 40$ shipping.

Www.primaryarms.com has plate carrier w soft level 3A front back for around $300.

I get my ceramics stuff from my military buddies. It's rated level 3(308) and is only 4 pounds. However, if you bang it around it can crack rendering it not level 3.

In a bug out, I'm light and maneuverable, soft armor. If My location is surrounded by hostiles, I'd throw on both.

Dkx looks awesome but it's not in my budget.
If you stand up and salute the flag during the National Anthem, we'll probably get along just fine.

I have be looking around and anyone locally carry plate carrier in black color and not sure to pick up ar500 plate or HY100 steel.  I need it light for active shooter situation.

For work.  I have body armor but hope it will stop pistol rounds.   My concern is that if there is active shooter situation, one might be carrying .223, or 7.62.  Department will not issue only to high asset area.

Thanks Q.  Our issued body armor is good but could be better. The ar500 plate will do with Eagle Industries plate carrier.  When the call comes in with rifle involve,  I just need to pull the carrier over and become a tactical ninja.

Illegal! I'm calling the cops!

just don't shoot them from a gun that is made of plastic so it cannot be seen on a metal detector

DocMercy

Retro-bumping this thread because topic is important. Looking for a N.I.J. certified plate that meets Level 3+ standards. Primary Arms seems to be out of stock on the Survival Armor Rampart brand. Not the zombie apocalypse that concerns me, but the mobs who shoot and scavenge.
