Not to nitpick, but the 1873 was not designed by John Browning.  Browning's first lever gun for Winchester was the 1886.  He replaced the toggle link system in the earlier Winchesters (like the 1873) with a much stronger system.   Nonetheless, the 1873 is a great gun and is "The Gun that Won the West".  Winchester is now making them again -- or to be more precise, Miroku is making Winchesters and the quality, fit and finish are fantastic.  They are roll marked "Winchester".  Currently in 357, but rumors of a 44-40 have been floating around.

Very nice to know that purchasing them is still attainable!  Also, thanks for the correction re JMB.  I will have to update my notes.
