especially in a state like alaska where hi cap mags are legal. i think id rather have 15 rounds of 10mm than 6 rounds of .44 mag.

The deciding factor though might be the magazine capacity of a 10mm and ease of reloading, vs 5-6 rounds of 44 magnum.

thats exactly what i mean. the 44 mag is easily superior but id go for the capacity of the semi auto over the revolver. im convinced that shooting a charging bear has a lot to do with luck. my brother killed one with four shots of 10mm. my dads good friend on the other hand shot a bear 5 times with a 44 mag and it was still able to maul him. found the bear dead a couple miles away. when a bear charges its not a real good angle to shoot its vitals and the skull is like shooting steel plates. lots of luck involved.

More often than not, getting off 5 shots doesn't necessarily mean shooting the bear 5 times.

he fired all 6 shots. if i remember correctly it was a taurus 44 mag. they found 5 bullets in the bear.
