300 BLK upper fits onto "regular" AR?

So this 300 AAC BLACKOUT...

Do you take any AR lower, attach the 300 BLK upper, and use 300 BLK magazines, and you are good to go?

Yes.  And if I'm not mistaken, .300 blackout uses standard AR mags.  No special magazines required.

And actually, if I'm also not mistaken, all that really needs to be changed is the barrel.  I think you can still use the same gas system, bolt etc... Can any of the blackout shooters confirm this for sure?

    Swapping between supersonic and subsonic requires no changes to the gun
    Can be made from 5.56 brass, easy to reload

Drawbacks

Yes you only need to replace your barrel but u better be reloading cus theres is usually no ammo on island

What happens if you "accidentally" fire a .223/5.56 round into the .300 BLK barreled AR?

I guess the .223 won't seat properly against the barrel throat? And as a result, the firing pin may or may not hit the primer?

223 wont chamber in 300 blk. its too long. the reverse is possible and probably catastrophic.

Although not required for the rifle to cycle, you may want to replace the buffer with a heavier H or H-2 version to smooth out the recoil from the 300BLK ammo.

As for mixing up the ammo, either conspicuously mark the mags containing 5.56 and 300BLK, or don't have both caliber rifles and ammo on the same bench together.

Even if you are super cautious and never, ever make a mistake, someone shooting with you may not be so careful.

Firing a 300 BO round in a 223 upper is a very real danger. An experienced gun writer did make this mistake. His AR was turned into a paper weight. He was lucky to have only minor injuries from the experience. He had the barrel cut in half length wise. The 30 cal. bullet never exited the barrel, it was formed into a slug a couple of inches long . He wrote and article about it. It was titled: Have you ever seen a 150 grain 22 cal. bullet?

Yes it's that easy. The lower, upper, bolt, magazine are the same for .223 and 300blk. The only difference in the entire rifle is the barrel. You can take your standard ar lower, slap a 300blk upper on it, and you're ready to go. Provided that you have the ammo. 300blk hasn't really caught on here yet, but it will. It's only a matter of time before more people start getting into it, and availability of ammo becomes better. But for now, if you plan on getting into 300blk, then you should look into reloading. There isn't much ammo for the 300blk available at the moment, it's been sold out for months. Need tips for reloading 300blk, YouTube is your friend.
