If that is true that only certain "privileged" members of society can CCW here in Hawaii - then I blame a complicit media for the fact that most people probably don't know about it.  Although I expect a certain portion of the population here to feel like they can't trust themselves with anything more than a butter knife (and therefore no one else can be trusted),  I don't think that would fly with most people.   

As I understand it,  Kaneshiro and members of his staff can carry concealed with the blessings of HPD.

There are requirements.

So can Judges and members of the Hawaii AG's office.

They can carry under different rules from us regular citizens.

Of so I've been told.  There may have been a newspaper article about this.

If I knew where I saw, I'd reference it.

We have yet to find anything in the statutes that would authorize this. Not saying it doesn't happen, we have a firm and strong belief that it does. We can only find this type of stuff in discovery.

If I recall, the only non "judicial / LE" concealed carry permit being issued was to Cayetano and his wife. I think that flew for like 2 days or something, the public then found out and police chief immediatly revoked the permits. Was a while back, but I remember it being big news, even though I was still in HS at the time...

I know I saw a group of individuals at the KKSC where they (who did not look like LE and who I was told were judges) were going thru some live fire exercises. I was told they were getting concealed carry permits and this was their class for that.

That's messed up! If they are not LE or military doing duty, then they would have to have had been issued permits by the chief. If they did not go through, 'normal' channels they are carrying illegal.
Therefore, there has to be a paper trail or something. Right?
Class for CCW? Where is the requirements?
This needs investigation.

Today I was surprised to receive a letter from Mr. Kaneshiro replying to my letter quoted in post #64 of this thread.

Kaneshiro: "To clarify statements made on the program and to address the points made in the first major paragraph of your letter, in Hawaii it [bold]is legal[/bold] for a gun owner to keep a registered, legal firearm in his or her home of place of business [sic].  The definition of "home" would also include the person's front yard,  or property.  Therefore, the use of a registered firearm in one's own front yard in defense during a threatening situation is a legal use of a firearm under Hawaii law."

Of course this ignores about 3/4 of what I stated in the said paragraph.  Another example of the futility of attempting to use logic on an anti.

All I gotta say is that I'm in total awe of the job HiCarry did on that bunch of mossbacked authoritarians.

Anubis - Yeah, the classical avoid the issue tact...I want to ask him about the premise he promoted thatt the police have an obligation to protect individuals. What I found most disappointing was the fact that the law school dean did not jump in to correct Mr. Kaneshiro. It is, IMHO, a travesty that an educator, especiually of his caliber, could sit by and let someone promote something that he knew, or should have known, was incorrect. I guess he was more interested in his personal agenda rather that the truth.
