When there is no FY14 appropriations, everything trickles down to the states and counties...some areas sooner than others but it's inevitable the longer it goes on.

Whatever they may lose will have more then offset by what these people took in Louisiana because of a glitch.

be careful what you wish for...

I'd hope so.

As much as I love our country, many of our countrymen deserved to be punished for how dumb they really are. And them freaking out trying to hurt me or my loved ones just gives me the justification I need to lay down some wrath, so its a win win situation.

The social safety net is there for a reason, because it's impossible to have a viable economy in an unstable environment. That puts in jeopardy everyone who doesn't have enough cash laying around to live the rest of their lives comfortably. Don't mock the, because someday you might be them.
If the news was lying to me I would have heard about it on the news.

I don't believe so.

I remember a time when I needed government assistance to buy food. All I wanted was some food stamps to help me buy groceries, and I was denied because 'I made too much money'. I find it hilarious that when I needed such assistance, I was denied even though I was a contributor to that system, and yet there were dozens of people in my neighborhood getting monthly welfare and food stamps, doing absolutely jack shit to contribute to the system.

This 'social safety net' has become something that it was not intended to be: a tool to acquire votes and keep the people stupid and dependent on the government. I am happy that I was denied assistance, because it forced me to go out and find the necessary work to earn the income I needed. I'm sure if you derail the gravy train, it will force people to accept the truth: that either they work for their share or they die. And if they try and take from others because their free ride is over, then they face the consequences of their actions.

And isn't the reason why many of us learn to be self-sufficient so that we do not have to be dependent on the social safety net?

I like the way you think.  The social "safety net" is a myth.  A safety net catches you so you don't get hurt while doing something that might involve risk.  Where's the risk of lifetime welfare families?  There should be a personal act of self-support involved BEFORE a net is offered.  If YOU aren't trying to support yourself, then a NET surely should NOT be supporting you either.

I hear too often how the one's who aren't trying to be on welfare, just need a little help until they recover from an unlucky job loss, divorce, medical bills, etc.  Instead of giving them resources to find a job, they want to walk them through a maze of forms to apply for every possible handout in existence just in case you qualify.  The government has no interest in making you independent.  Their goal is to buy your support by offering you tax-funded support in return.

I've use food stamps, free school lunches, and military scholarship money for college.  I've also paid for 2 girls to attend college with no help from Uncle Sam.  I feel I've paid him back AT LEAST double what I took.  That's how the system SHOULD work.  Instead, it's the age old promise of a chicken in every pot!
