I went to SRGC yesterday to take the free 101 defensive class. It was pretty fun using holsters and slings. I learned a lot and I would recommend it everyone. We also learned how to deal with jammed firearms. We used handguns, tactical rifles, and shotguns.

I also tried out my friends Double Tap .45 hangun. Stupid recoil hurts so much that my hand is really bruised. It's hit's like 2 as hard than my .50 AE Desert Eagle. Also tried out his UTS 15. That was very fun and suprisingly super light. Way lighter than my Remington 1100.

I'm a member. My wife and I took the defensive class. Someone brought a Saiga to that class which people got to try out. I brought my DE but only one person wanted to try it out. Great thing was after the class we were able to stay late until 4:30 since we had a special guest from Japan. That's when I got to try out the UTS and double tap. They also brought out their brand new AX .338. I can't remember the brands but the scope was like $4k and the spotting scope was $2k.

are guests allowed to take the defensive class, or is it members only?

Guests can take the class as long as there is a member to sponsor. The 101 class is geared more towards safety than full on defensive tactical training. They teach how to properly handle your firearm when using holsters and slings. I'm assuming the next class is more tactical training.

After the class is when I practiced fast draw with my tactical rifle. Ex quickly drop my magazine and reload, fire 3 rapid shots, drop mag and reload... IMO this will help train you for real combat situations. A criminal will not allow you to take your time to fire or reload.

I really don't know but best is to just apply during the monthly meetings. Check out their website SRGC Hawaii. All I know is that there is something like 500 members but only like up to 30 people showed up in the last few months each time to shoot.

For anyone who wants to join SRGC Hawaii. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

1. Bring lots of ammo. You can easily do 100 rounds in about 30 minutes.
2. Bring chairs and shade if you want to rest. There is no cover in the area where you shoot.
3. There is more than enough space. It's the size of Koko from pistol to silloutte side.
4. Bring drinks.
5. Bring a huge tarp or net. You have to pickup every shell and account for it.
6. Be prepared to clean your weapons cause it's going to get dirty from red dirt and grass.
7. Bring a cart if want. It's a long walk if they do not allow you to park temporally to drop your gear off.
8. Do not speed anywhere on base.
9. Bring fun targets like the orange ones you see at Sports Authority
10. Bring pistols and rifles since you can shoot both
11. Cannot shoot anything above 7.62
12. Your frame targets need to be weighed down or staked since it can get windy.
13. Use of holsters and slings are allowed
14. Fast fire is allowed per RSO rules
15. Bring sun screen. It can get blazing hot. A hat is recommended

I read this from another forum. One of the guys was saying what would you rather face, a person with a AR15 or a knife? The other person comes back and says neither but if I had to choose I'd rather face him with my own rifle or handgun than be unarmed.

Just a thread to talk about random gun related things.

So, I went to Kona this past Friday-Sunday.  My friend told me she "...only had $200 to spend on ammo," and i figured, "Holy crap, that's a lot of ammo!"  Ammo was purchased on Friday before my 6:30pm arrival, as the shops would be closed on the weekend.  Turns out that in Kona, $200 worth of ammo comes out to 50 rounds of steel cased .45ACP, 50 rounds of .38Spl,  60 rounds of steel cased .223, 50 rounds of steel cased 9x19, and a 325 round box of Federal Automatch .22lr ( the one 325 round box of .22lr cost $44, and I believe the box of 9x19 was $24).  Dear God, I never thought I'd ever feel bad about bringing guns for friends to shoot, but I felt terrible for having them spend so much for ammo!

I was able to bring 60 rounds of Lake City M855, two bricks of American Eagle .22lr, and a box of some 9x19 so we were able to shoot a little more.  I ended up leaving all the leftovers behind (just 30 M855 and a brick and box of .22lr) since I have more access on Oahu and still have a press at home.

I've maybe bought 4 boxes total of various calibers since before the scare, so I'm not used to seeing inflated prices, but geez...The neighbor island guys have it rough!
