I receive a Daily update of firearm related items/stories from Stephen Wenger who lives in Arizona. In yesterdays update he mentioned that though Hawaii has may issue there is no record of any permit/licenses being issued. In today's update there was the following:

Haven't been able to verify it, but according to what I've found, verified [sic] by one of our newest [AzCDL] members (and, I believe our first from Hawaii) there have been two CCWs issued in the state: One to the wife of the Lieutenant Governor, the other to the sister of the Chief of Police on the big island. Private security carry licenses are a separate issue from 'civilian' CCWs, and while not common, are generally approved after extensive training.

So Thomas Magnum may have had a permit to stuff that 1911 into the rear of his waistband, after all. Hey, the guy who made the IWB holsters I now use says he's got a Maryland carry permit but they're still scarcer than hen's teeth, at least for commoners

Has anyone else  in Hawaii heard of this?  Seems to me this could open a can of worms for Hawaii not issuing to regular folks.

The last research into the subject I did, which was a few years ago now, revealed that none of the departments at that time were issuing concealed carry permits. Those were public statistics released by the state. At some point in the past, I think pre-2000, there were some permits issued but I wasn't able to pinpoint which department they came out of.

It would be interesting to see if these stats have changed in the recent years, but I'd highly doubt it due to "liability reasons."

ETA: I didn't realize it was you, but I was the one that gave you the original statistic that there weren't any permits being currently issued.

 Yes I have that on the Hawaii page I believe. When I saw that update from Wenger  I knew the place to ask was here. Thing is it sounds very likely. Seems in those places that keep the guys/gals like you and me from obtaining a permit to carry those with a connection can get one. 

According to the 2011 report, the latest released by the AG's office, no concealed carry permits were issued.

Noticed that the three links you posted were reports that were filed 2 to 3 months after the end of the year. If that is the case where is 2012's report? I wonder why it is not out yet? Where are the conspiracy theorists when we need them!!!!  Might be a good question to put to your AG. Is there a report? Is so where can I view it?  If not Why?
