My old friend Doug has decided to close the "Military Shop" in Mapunapuna. A sad day for us goodfellas.

Is it "Military HQ" that's closing?

We have always known it as the Military Shop. Somewhere along the way it changed to Military HQ.
I'm checking to see if the entire store is closing or only the back section where Doug sits.
I think I'll drop by on the way to the range today.

Yup, sad to say that Military HQ...Doug Boyer is closing at the end of the year.  I heard, there will be closing out sale starting November 1st and Doug will still have his table at the gun shows as well as internet sales.

passed by the shop just after 10 am
no sign, but shelves seemed a little emptier than last time i was there
didn't want to be "that guy" and ask if they are closing, but an old man was in the shop buying a larger item and the lady told him, "25% off if you buy it today"

Clarification:
The back section with Doug is closing at the end of the month.
The front section AKA Militrary HQ is planning to close at the end of the year.

Doug Boyer, owner of the Military Shop passed away a few weeks ago. He had just helped out at a shooting match a few days earlier.
One of the original founding fathers of the HHAA (Hawaii Historic Arms Assoc).
He had a shop on Kalakaua Ave for many years and then moved to Sand Island then Mapunapuna.
He helped put on the Semi-annual Gun Shows and he always had his sales table with vintage gun parts and memorabilia.
Video and obituary is attached.

Relate a eulogy

I remember talking to him and saw the Nam era flak vest.  He explained to me what it was and how it differs from a bulletproof vest.  He was more than happy to explain this to a 10 year old and in 10 year old understandable terminology.  Even let me try it on.

Was this what you were asking for?

It is sad to hear of Doug's passing. He had a knack for finding all sorts of good things. He will be missed.
